Some people argue against that.  See what it's done to England's confidence?  I think we need to play an African team and a South American team.  We have played far too many European teams lately.

Yeah, but England goes into those games feeling that they should win every one. It really hurts your ego when you lose like that. With the U.S. I think it should be taken as more of a learning opportunity to get a feel for the kind of competition that they will be facing.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Downside: first game of the Netherlands is a rematch with Spain on Friday the 13th.

Upside: Fernanda Lima

D and G seem to be the death-est of the groups.

Not looking good for England. Terrible weather where they will be playing as well.

Only the English complain about the weather.

What about Netherlands, Spain, Chile?  I can see Chile making a big impact.

That's what I'm afraid of. They have a solid team. If we lose against Spain it will be tough.

Group E looks the easiest.  Didn't Fifa change some rule so France could get into a different pot?  Japan's group cold have been worse, but still gotta face Falcao and Yaya Toure.  :-\

These are great.

Also, Chile vs Spain should be great.

Belgium, France, Argentina and Brazil all got pretty lucky. None of the groups look particularly death-y to me, although the English media will almost certainly make theirs out to be "the toughest group evarrrr". I still think they have a small chance to get in ahead of Uruguay though.

Regarding Liverpool's chance of making it into the top four...I'm still unsure. There's a lot of competition still and if Spurs ever get their shit together they'll be in for a real scrap. They have looked like on of the better teams in the league so far but I think I actually agree with Alex Ferguson's comment that they're about 6-7 quality players away from being a championship team. If you go through that squad top to bottom (excepting the strikers of course) it looks like he's probably right.

Australia's chances were always gonna be tough but I hoped there was someone we could go in with a fighting chance against. I'm just not seeing it with those three.

Then again, I'm an owner of an Ashley Cole jersey hahaha.  Which team are you in fantasy again Spike?  I'm sitting in 4th, with Rooney suspended for next week.
"London-0 Hull-4" is my team. Hanging out in mid table mediocrity. If it wasn't Suarez I'd be proping the tabe up.

Ha, was watching this chuckling to myself as I watched that American Football game that like a foot of snow was on the pitch and noone gave a shit.

Wish I had watched the City match instead.

Frickin' City never a dull moment nowadays!  Going 2 down I though oh well that's it.  Then they got into a little groove beating Bayern's press.  I was hoping for that 4th goal to top the group and I thought Negredo was in.  Silva is the man.  For anyone who watched basketball before he reminds me of John Stockton on the pitch.

And then the snow stopped.  Pretty pitiful that they couldn't play on that pitch.

It's so funny that Pelegrini didn't think his side had a chance to win in Munich.  If he did, he would've at least worked out by how many goals they needed to win by.  Astonishingly poor by him, but impressive by City.

Superb finish to an awful game. I suppose this might get Sneijder back in the national squad.
With talk of Man U transfer, wonder if he'll play any more CL games this season. Not allowed is it?

If Sneijder does go to Man United in January then no he is cup tied.
Crazy group of death today.  Higuain puts Napoli up so I switched feeds to the Dortmund game and they get one late to win the group mind you.  What is it about Dortmund and late finishes in the CL?  Tough luck for Napoli.

You almost wanna have some sympathy for Juve given the way they went out but no, fuck it, they were absolutely terrible this CL campaign. How can you play as well as they did for two games against Real Madrid and then play like garbage in the games against shitty teams where you're actually likely to get some points? As a football fan I'd generally prefer to see the teams that are best on paper progress to the knockout round, but they really did nothing to earn a spot in the last 16.

As for Arsenal, I haven't seen the game yet but I'm kinda surprised by the 2-0 loss to Napoli. Given that he's come off after about 65 minutes in the last two games without doing anything of significance, is it safe to say we've reached peak Ramsey? He's had a great run but I never saw him keeping up that level of form throughout the whole season. I'm considering selling the dude in my fantasy league but I'm not sure there's anyone else in his price range that would be worth having.

In other news, "Barcelona have announced a new deal with Intel whereby the tech company will sponsor the inside of their shirts."
