I'm gonna be choked for Messi if they don't win this thing. It's not the world cup, but the dude needs at least one major international trophy to his name by the time he retires. Chile still look like by far the best team in South America though. Kinda wish they played more copa america games on TV here, as they've generally been a lot more entertaining than the Euros so far.

So far, Switzerland v France has resulted in two ripped jerseys, a popped football, and multiple naps.

23 ripped jerseys?! anyways both teams were qualified already so.....not that much action

how about that though:

If they have to have 24 teams in the Euros, there is a much better way to do it. I didn't make this up myself, some mathematician did:

8 groups of three teams.

e.g.:
Andorra plays Liechtenstein
Loser of Game 1 plays Gibraltar
Winner of Game 1 plays Gibraltar

The winner of each group advances immediately to the 1/8 finals. Group winners get the advantage of playing one game less. Their opponents in the 1/8 are to be decided by an extra knock-out round, to be played between the numbers 2 and 3 of the groups (they will be reseeded).

This has multiple advantages. Most importantly it takes out the unfairness there is now, where teams can be eliminated by teams they had nothing to do with. It also ensures that during the group phase, every game the teams are playing for something, with nothing to lose. No one is eliminated in the group phase after all. It will make for more entertaining games, without reservations informing tactics as much etc. There would be 32 games rather than 36, with an extra knock-out round.

Something has to happen and I think this could be it. This Cup is the most boring one I have ever seen and this seems to be the general consensus. It may never be the Copa America in terms of excitement, part of that is the latino temperament we lack I suppose (playing with reservations never really got the same footing over there), but mostly it's just poor organization. FIFA wants to milk this with the most games possible, when really they should focus on quality. In the long run it also makes more sense commercially.

TLDR; @UEFA this format sucks please make it better

Man, today was intense!

Fucking Hungary first in their group, unreal  ;D

Really happy for Ireland as well, they definitely deserve it

The only thing that bums me out is that Portugal is in the next round with three draws, come on now  :-X

Unfair, right?

Also pretty bummed about Spain and Italy meeting so early on, and just the draw in general

Oh well, at least there will be a surprising finalist. Pressure's on for Belgium.

Hungary played like shit last night, which was a bummer. A lot of Hungarian pride in my family so it was almost painful to watch them get their asses kicked.

Geez I'd hate to be English right now. Iceland turned them inside out. They had zero game plan. Good thing my family is Welsh.

Almost felt bad for Rooney, he was so poor this game it was embarrassing.

Iceland played so well though, I can see them beat any team if they keep this up except Germany or Italy.

yeah I hope I won't come to regret my words but I don't think Iceland will be that much of a threat for les Bleus. Iceland is playing well but our team is coming into its own. They reacted well after conceding a penalty in the first 5 minutes against Ireland. And Pogba/Payet/Griezman is a serious triple threat. Anything is possible though, as the tournament has shown!

The English media and pundits here said the the same thing.  But yeah, even though France haven't really seemed to have got out of the blocks yet, they were ruthless in the period in the Ireland game when they scored 2 and then when Duffy was sent off.   Still want and Iceland vs Wales final, but doubt that will happen, heh.
