Equal or slight overhang - Never trucks poking out.

Ace 44 on 8.5
Indy 139 on 8.25

I hate when trucks stick out unless I'm riding a cruiser with giant soft wheels or something.

I don't even like trucks sticking out with my cruiser. I'm turning a 9.25" Black Label deck (the smallest deck in my quiver) into a cruiser and I might have to size down from 169 Indy's on that deck if the 70mm soft Kryptonics stick out. Will find out when I get home, I think the wheels were delivered today.

8.5 thunder 149. My board is not broken but considering it has been over a year I've decided to change my board. I've decided to downsize to 8.25 on my current 149s, but I find it curious aced 144 recommends 8.18 to 8.5, does anyone have any experience running a 8.18 on thunder 149? Plus I ride loose

8.25 on 149 will be perfect but any smaller the axle will deff stick out

Found this thread today and was wondering if anyone’s preferences have changed with there being more 8.25 truck options available. Does everyone still feel the same as before?

Yeah I still ride trucks wider than my deck.

I moved my 149s up to an alternate 8.5 setup and got 144s to try on 8.25 - I don't dislike em.

Venture 5.2 Lows on an 8 is great

Equal axle to deck width seems to work best for me.

Either wider or equal. If I'm on an 8.25 or 8.38 I still want the width of an 8.5 truck for grinds, but nothing wider otherwise it's gonna poke out too much under the board

*147 thunder hollow team on the 7.75”
*139 indy forged hollow on the 8”
*149 indy cast hollow on the 8.38”

This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

I was always 149 on 8.25, but once I set these ventures up I’ll be flush with my board for the first time in like 10 plus years

The current Lucero Bars is like a 9.25, but it's more like 8.75 at the rear truck. Wheels might stick out on the back a little but you're probably good to go on the front truck.

Equal, or up to .25 bigger trucks.

Current setups
8 deck with 8 trucks (x2)
8.3 with 8.38
8.3 with 8.5
8.38 with 8.5
8.5 (measures 8.62) with 8.75
9.25 with 9.35

Magic Carpet mostly. It really doesn't matter to me that much. I've found I can skate anything so long as the wheels aren't under 50mm.

But yes I've found a slightly narrower truck to flip and spin faster. More wood than metal means more control I think? Idk.

Right now I'm 5.6 on a 8.25. I'm likely going to go back to 8.5s with the 5.6 though

I like them as even as I can get.  In the age of 8.1somethings and 8.38s, sometimes you have to round some numbers.
Also, for my egg shaped setup, it's 9" at its widest in the middle but tapers to 8.5 near the trucks.  So it also differs for shaped boards.

Running it wide on one, equal on the other.  8.25 with some Destructo D1 Mid 5.75's, and 8.5 with Thunder 149's

I skate 149's on 8.25" decks, i've tried 148's but wider trucks just looks cooler, i don't notice that much of a difference to be honest.

But i don't really do flip tricks any more, if i flip my board it has to be in a bank or up something.

Necroing this thread for more opinions on this. I watched the Ben Degros video on it and it makes me REALLY want to try 8.75 trucks with an 8.5 deck.

Thats a good combo. Used to religiously ride 151s and 159s on 8.5" decks...

if on spits classics, the outer edge of the wheels would line up nicely with the edge of the deck.

A few posts above - and a year and a half ago - I was running slightly larger.

A few months ago I picked up an 8.75 Blue Meanie and my 8.75 trucks were sitting on a Polar 1991, so  I put Ace AF1 55s on it.  Hot damn if I wasn't locking into my grinds on transition better than I had before.  I thought it may have been an anomaly, but last week I sized down from 149s to 144s on my 8.3 and I was locking in better than before.

So I was equal to wide, and now I'm narrow to equal.
