Narrow to equal with preference to narrow. 8.125 with 8” trucks is the bees knees. I tried 8.25 trucks for a while on 8.1-8.25 decks and detected the slightest hindering of my flip tricks and noticed my axles would get destroyed faster. I don’t really get any drawbacks with 8” trucks though, they’re plenty stable and wide enough to lock into grinds

Ok

Feel the same. I was riding 8.5 trucks on a 8.25-8.3. Felt great for grinds, but I started flipping my board a little more lately and found it to be cumbersome. I just retired an 8.28 and setup an 8.18 chocolate with venture 5.2 lights. Gonna see if that feels better

Should be a great setup. Love a mellow short wb Crail deck with ventures

I like 8.125 deck on 8.25 trucks....Its about cramming as much board into your trucks.  You get all the truck a 8.25/144 provides but the deck skates like an 8.....more truck makes a difference....

I ride straitened cut wheels and think boards are over measured a tiny bit..so I don't see the wheels or axel nuts....

Wait...are deciding 8.125 is the best size deck?

Right now I've got a 9.0 Polar deck with Indy 159's and 58mm Conical Fulls with 3 washers inside. Ended up a little under flush which is perfect for me. Indy 159 are my favorite trucks, gone from 8.5 to 9.0 with this set. The lock in for me on 159's is perfect where as on 169's it feels like more room for error. The slightly smaller trucks also helps me maneuver the 9.0 a little easier plus them being a little lighter weight is nice too.

8.75 trucks on everything now
8.5 for street
9.0 for transition

used to be big on magic carpet but the extra stability is a need in the street (im tall lanky and heavy)
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I've been running 8.5 trucks on 8.5 decks, but I now I threw an extra washer on the inner wheels for a hair more width (2 washers inside, 1 washer outside). Feels perfect.

I just set up a grimple stix 8.75 with ace af1 55’s. There is a little bit of magic carpet going on. Looks kind of funny with the snot wheels I am running. But damn this setup feels pretty damn good.

I just setup an 8.125" (14" WB , those damn Primitive boards skate like long wheelbases, it's so weird) on 144 IKP royals and skinny wheels...feels great...I'm not skating any transition these days and cut my slappy time down to get in some more flatland.

It's the close enough ratio to 8.25" on 149s so it's not really foreign and provides the same feeling of stability for those that don't like magic carpet.

That's the exact setup I'm on right now and it is the tits. From mini ramps to slappy's. I never got along with 8" trucks.

I use to be on 8.5 with 149s or 8.38 with 149s but now I’m loving 8.75 with 149s. Makes me want to try 8.5 with 5.6 or 144s

Currently on Venture 5.6s with 8" deck. it's been working for me! turning feels about the same as 5.2s, but I can run the 5.6s a little looser while maintaining stability.

I ride 8 inch trucks and prefer equal sized deck but currently have two setups, one is with 7.875 deck and the other is 8.125, both feel fine, coz it is not such a big difference. I think the wheels matter, i am on classic shapes (f4 and loohole), but have have put 2 speedrings on the inside of the 8.125 setup so more or less i made the sizes equal.

I was on 8" trucks all my life and am now on 144s on 8.25 decks. I prefer that more stable feeling and my 10 flip tricks are still possible. Still takes a bit getting used too.

Wouldn't magic carpet be good for slappies?

I'm running an 8" on venture hollow low 5.0

Gonna see if I still have my slappy crooks tomorrow

It is. I posted it in a Slappy thread some time back but nobody was interested lol. Don't know if a quarter inch is enough to make a difference but big board little trucks is almost cheating. It's also good for flipping faster.

Yep. Tried it today. Works a charm. Particularly for slappy crooks. They just ride straight up the curb. So easy
