Nice, another topic where people are coming to claim that they run reds for 5years and they are as good as swiss. They’re not. Swiss or gtfo.
[close]

ive been running my reds for about that long never had any issues, roll great. Can't beat $18 for 5 years of good times. Never saw the need to spend the extra dough. Different strokes.
[close]

All my Reds, Super Reds have ended with cracked crowns.

Im on a set of swiss 6's that are 2 years strong. Ive cleaned up with acetone twice and use speed cream every 2 months and they're strong as ever.

I also have a set of Swiss in my drawer i used for 3-4 years that i stopped using to try the current 6's im using.

I basically only skate ledges, so I've never had a red break, can't recall specifically having any break. Although when I used to huck, it's highly possible. I am very much a if it's not broke don't fix it type. I never clean my bearings either, I don't spend much time obsessing over gear. I'll even ride wheels for over a year.

My cruiser has been riding the same Reds for about 5 years now. Those things regularly go through rain, dirt, mud, and dust and still roll flawlessly. I've been through 3 pairs of Swiss on my 'regular' board in the same time span.

ha i had a set of the independent bearings on a cruiser that were the same way - super rusted and crusted but still rolled fast.. I got some red ceramics on my cruiser and they've trudged through dirty puddles, sand etc and still roll fast and silent

half Spitfire burners half Shake Junt bearings I got from some friend in a trade. The SPitfire ones blow out kinda fast so I started using the Shake Junt ones even though they are a bit rusty since they are like 6 years old, still run great. Highly recommendable

Swiss 6 have been going strong for me for 3 years.  They even got a bit rusty when I went out with some melty ice on the ground.  Cleaned them with acetone and threw some speed cream in and they're good as new.  Highly recommended.

sorry

I have ridden them all
redz, swiss, bronson, indy, spitfire, flip...
with shields, without shields, rusted, busted, silent, loud, dirty as a whore, highly maintained...
once you put it under your feet they all roll the same
they tell you about tolerances and polishing and triple steel race finishing, but after one session all those tolerances are launched in the outer space
this is my conclusion after many years of obsessively trying it all

I'm finding Bones Swiss for $20 all over The Net. For that price, it's kind of a no brainer, I just ordered another set.
I must admit the Amphetamine Ceramic Silvers I'm running now seem pretty fast, though I haven't stepped on a board in years.

If they're fake, somebody went through a lot of trouble.

I bought fake REDS off eBay for fuck's sake and they had all the correct swag in the box. That's not too difficult for a large volume pirate.

Either those are old stock that someone just wanted to get rid of or they are fake. $20 is cheaper than Bones' wholesale price.

If you examine them closely next to a known legitimate set from Skateone you'll probably see a few tiny differences like shifting font sizes and colors on the originals, different races, etc.

Anyhow, I've never been able to justify $60 on bearings so Reds it is. Although my last set was Basic Bronsons which weren't great.

They're fake, I got had a couple years back, looked just like em, but the feel can't be replicated. It isn't hard to print a piece of paper and cardboard and make stickers.

I didn't even know fake bearings were a thing.
Having a hard time figuring out if mine are fake or not, but I'll just assume they are.

They don't have the "Made in Switzerland" on the front of the box.

I know there are a couple retailers selling legit ones that show a picture of the box without it, but I believe those retailers just grabbed an image off the web for "bones swiss" and accidentally posted a box of the fakes.

Modus blacks, cheaper and better than china bones reds

Like rockn Ron said, don’t buy Chinese bearings

I’ve had 3/4 sets of reds and they felt the same as every set of bearings I had until I tried modus cause they were cheap and cheaper on sale so I said fuck it why not new bearings feel smooth, they didn’t just feel smooth they were slightly fast out the box almost broken in fast and still silent and smooth. They felt brand new and still kinda do for the longest time

I’ve been riding them for about 2 months now no cleaning or anything no popped shields and they’re still silent, smooth and fast

Also grant Taylor rides modus

^would you say it's the grease oiled aspect? I read that grease oiled bearings last longer (lubrication wise), but achieve less optimal speed compared to thin-oil lubricated bearings.

Maybe but really I think it’s cause modus are made in Europe/with actually controlled tolerances and qualities for skating like Swiss

I'm still running some Diamond Smoke Rings that my girlfriend gifted me almost 3 years ago (I guess she liked the jewell case ahah)...

They are really really good, at least I have no complains.
Fast and durable, I just need to clean and lube them because I'm super lazy and never did. I run with shields and I think they are getting a bit rusty inside (last month I had to change 1 to my back-up reds, it was not spinning properly). They cost more 10 or 15€ than reds but I think reds start feeling sluggish after a bit more than 1 year, so those have a good cost/value to me.

I was actually looking now at those Cortina bearings online and they look promissing. I like the fancy package and the price is not soooo bad for something that sounds fairly premium.

I was praising those Diamond's yesterday here and today I just broke one! I think its my first one in like forever, so its just super wierd...
Changed all of them to a set of Reds I had as a backup.
Might try something different in the future.
