"i need a jacket for the winter"- thread
« on: October 03, 2009, 01:01:13 AM »
there is nothing worse then buying a winter jacket. it has to be warm, good looking with sneakers and leather shoes, you have to wear it for the job, for partying and for skating, it shouldn't be that expensive and whatnot. well, i don't really know, what to take.

i don't really know how big my budged is but the ben sherman coat is way too expensive - 240 euro's. the other point is you can't do anything else but walking around while beeing good looking ... no skating and no riding bike.

penfield has a couple of nice jacket's that are functional while beeing good looking - and they aren't too expensice. only problem is, that nobody in germany carries their stuff.

an other option would be an outdoor jacket from mammut, jack wolfskin or north face. only problem is: i don't really like the look of these jackets.

the last years i was rocking a down insulted jacket, but it looks like shit these days. and how the fuck could i wear authentics in the winter?

what do you rock in the wintertime?

a robe, my knickers, and a glass of cognac

penfield is my immediate choice, their EU website will ship to germany at a fairly reasonable cost im sure...when i was spending time in germany it happened to be during october, and i happen to be from california.  i mobbed the thrifts throughout berlin and came up on a nice coat for a fair price, but honest to goodness, penfield is top notch.  im trying to think of some more similar coat companies but am coming to a blank...

ahh, woolrich might be in your price range too.  check them out, i think theyre usa only but will ship international

all else fails, check ebay.  bound to come up on some quality for a steal.

I just bought this Anti-Hero jacket last week in preperation for winter. It's pretty sweet; waterproof, sheepy fleece stuff on the inside, and pretty freshsicles looking.

how much was it? waterproof+sheepy fleece sounds pricey... especially with anti hero selling $75 flannel.

autumn has been insanely cold this year. as for coats, i usually go for something thinner with  a shirt and a sweater underneath.

edit - i meant "jack it" when i wrote "jacket".  i jack'et during the summer months, winter months, spring months, and falls months. i guess i shouldnt have put this here but who the fuck goes on this asking what kind of jacket they should wear for a few months. thats seems a bit weird to me.

I have that jacket too.  I got mine for $55.

I got mine for $90 Australian, which is roughly 75 US.

stick with your down insulated, you can't go wrong with that.

or what jordan and carbonite posted, anything that has some thermal insulation does the trick.

I got a Helly/Hansen 3/4 length hooded parka. Looks like this (although this one is by The North Face):

Canada Goose makes pretty toasty parkas too:

Same here, except for last year when we had a freak snow fall... first snow I'd seen fall down here in my adult life. Crazy shit. All I had was cotton hoodies.
A friend gave me a new quilted Dickies jacket a little while back:

This is what I'll be wearing mostly though:
