Watched the wild bunch last night. What a gross, violent film. I loved it. The moment they all decide, "fuck this we're getting angel back" and they cruise over to mapache to set shit off is so rad. Just an orgy of violence

@DaleSr Wild Bunch is such a classict. If you haven't already seen Straw Dogs thats another outstanding Peckinpah film.

Just saw Infinity Pool at the local theater last night. I wasn't sure what to think at certain parts because it gets batshit crazy, but after the ending I've decided I really like it. I also recently watched Possessor, which was Brandon Cronenberg's last movie, and that movie was equally fucked up in an enjoyable way. I do think I liked Infinity Pool even more tho. If you're a Mia Goth fan you'll fuck with it, I promise.

Great film…

I first saw it 12, maybe 13 years ago when Netflix would send you DVDs. Seems like ancient history now.

Gene Hackman is incredible. It's crazy to think that both he and Dustin Hoffman were voted least likely to succeed in school.

I recently revisited this sexy gem by Italian horndog Bernardo Bertolucci:

that slap sure does look real..."not only do i have the guts, i have the authority"--what a line.

Frances McDormand kills it in this too

The Oscar’s that year was a tough one. Rain man won best picture over it…

There's something about Mary
Still pretty funny 25 years later. Sure there's a couple things that haven't aged well but that's always gonna happen with old movies especially comedy.

The movie that convinced women they should try and pull off capri pants

Hah the thing that has aged the worse is Brett Favre (American q football QB) has shown he’s faaaar from the good guy people thought he was when this movie came out

Also, it’s hilarious to see the other roles Warren the brother has played, especially in Deadwood

To all the Akira Kurosawa heads out there:

Remake of Ikiru called Living, starring Bill Nighy is very much worthy of the source material and your time

“Spoiler Alert” is also a very winning movie on Peacock.   It’d a little reductive to call it the gay Big Sick even if it is by the same director, but it’s a good watch and nice to see a loving gay romantic/comedic movie that doesn’t have that weird angry Larry Kramer-esque edge Bros had

I go
top - Bruges/Banshees
Middle - The Guard (by his brother)
Bottom - billboards/psychopaths

It’s like an Olympic podium, they’re all winners, but some are bigger winners than others

We haven’t had a new viewer of Banshees if Inishirin in a bit.   Maybe I can tempt some people by mentioning that literally every actor with more than two lines got an Oscar nomination.

"Do you think God gives a damn about miniature donkeys, Colm?"

"I fear he doesn't. And I fear that's where it's all gone wrong."

fuck

edit: that exchange between Colm and the priest knocked me on my ass and made me think of something Milan Kundera wrote

"Mankind's true moral test, its fundamental test (which lies deeply buried from view), consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy: animals. And in this respect mankind has suffered a fundamental debacle, a debacle so fundamental that all others stem from it."

this was an incredible film and i need to watch it again--cheers for the temptation @Atiba Applebum

Wings Of Hope

1998 Werner Herzog documentary about Juliane Koepcke the lone survivor of a horrible plane accident who fell almost 2 miles out of the sky and then survived 10 days in the Amazon jungle.

Crazy stuff and really interesting documentary.

Love Liza was so good.  Dark comedy staring Philip Seymour Hoffman from the early 2000s. His wife committed suicide and he turns to huffing gas and RC airplanes as an escape. Ridiculously funny at times but also hits hard, Philip is phenomenal as always.

Gonna go on a bender of the rest of his films I haven't seen yet

Mad dog time

Father in law put it on saying it was a comedy. It had me hooked the whole time, whilst it being a pretty shallow plot, had a great ending.

Werner fans definitely tune into the first ep (or two - depending on how the two parter is packaged) of Documentary Now Season 4.   it’s a riff on Fitzcarraldo/Burden of Dreams that’s too good to spoil here

This movie was so much damn fun. Richard Linklater film so it was basically a fatty Dazed n Confused with a slice of Waking Life.

It’s fun too see Glen Powell from Top Gun Maverick play/kill a different role too.

The Fifth Element is still a great watch. I love how much time and focus was spent on every character - bit player or not - and practical effect. I’d say it wasn’t slow, but you get to see and hear a lot along the way; more than in most modern films. The first half reminded me of playing Grand Theft Auto, especially the police chase early on.

Yeah it rules. It's kinda got og star wars qualities where it's just like here's the world and doesn't need to go into every little detail of everything just go along for the ride (unlike say current star wars) funny how the Dallas and zorg never meet each other for the entire movie either. For some reason in Aus there's like full weekends where they just play it on loop.

Watched dumb and dumber and ace Ventura (but refuse to watch the mask) dumb and dumber is still funny ace Ventura has its moments but Jim Carrey is so annoying also it's barely even a movie how fast it all goes.

The general with Buster Keaton is also always good.
