the green is a pale ale, the red is a sparkling ale. they are different kinds of beer. the alcohol content is incidental. the orange label is a mid strength. the quality of a good beer isn't measured only by the alcohol content.

If you're talking about American macro brews, I'd agree... but the US has some amazing micros that are as good (quality wise) as any other beer producing country... the only thing we really can't make here is Trappist (for multiple reasons).

la fin du monde is trappist from canada, and they're like america junior so that counts.

La Fin du Monde is an excellent beer, made in much the same way as a Trappist ale, but it isn't a Trappist ale. Partially because the Royal Unibrew company isn't a Trappist monastery, and partially because monk-made beer is typically affected by wild yeast only found in the regions that they're brewed and fermented in (in addition to the yeast added by the monks). Super good beer, but it isn't Trappist.

interesting, a dude told me it was last night. it made some sense to me, because of the french history in the region, but he was wrong i guess.
