Anybody have any recommendations for a cheap and reliable light meter?

what do you consider as cheap? 10 bucks? 50? you can always go with an old minolta or a gossen, they seem to be good.

I use an old minolta flash meter IV these days, but a new sekonic l-358 is on the way. both are not really cheap, but good enough for available light along with flash light.

i've been on a B&W spree because C41 processing is getting to be nonexistent in my area.  decided to suck it up and develop a roll of superia:

I've been steering towards a Minolta after lurking through ebay and such for a bit. I definitely don't have the money to spend on a Sekonic. Thanks for the info!

how?s the k5 treating you?

at first it took a bit of getting used to because theres alot more buttons than the K-r, but after i looked in the manual and worked out what they all do its alot more ergonomical than the K-r because everything is literally at the touch of a button.
So yeah realy liking it, the battery grip makes portraits so much easier aswell, although one thing that might just be me but is annoying is than on the K-r i could use a manual lens (from the k1000) and the light meter would still work and give me an indication of the exposure, but for some reason on the K-5 the light meter doesnt do anything with an old manual lens so i just have to guess the exposures

that sounds weird. but i think there is something to switch on in the menu (at least its like that with the Kx), that allows metering with fully-manual lenses, otherwise its kinda waiting for some information about aperture. i think it says something like "enable manual aperture ring" or something. i have talked to some k5-users, and they used manual lenses without a problem.

hhm strange, because i had to change that setting to use the manual lens atall, without changing it the shutter simply wouldnt release, but its still not reading the light levels, ill take a look when i get home and see if theres another setting i need to change

edit: took a brief look online and it says that if i now press the green button of the preview switch it should light meter for me, hopefully it will be that simple when i finish work

haha not on the K-r no, but seeing as it is familiar to you im assuming it'll work later on the K-5. deffinatley reccoment it as an upgrade whenever you can afford it (with the battery grip its rather pricy!!) but not nesescary, still find myself using the K-r for alot of things, especially if im drinking on the job :p

did you get the original grip? because the body alone is under 900? here, its ridiculous. doesnt matter anyway, i?ll wait for the next gen. my bank-account told me to do so.

these pictures are from my recent family trip to poland, but I didn't had too much time to shot. I'd love to go back for some late night long exposure - the stars look rad. hope you get a little impression how a small city over there looks like - and how good we were at picking mushrooms in the forest ... we only got 4 good ones hahaha

yeah i did and the grip cost about ?150, mad really. However i found a bargain, like you said most places were charging ?900 for just the body, but i found somewhere (which turned out to be really slow and terrable service, but whatever) where i got all the accessories (lens hoods, strap etc) and the body with the 2 stock weather sealed lenses for ?930.

photography: y u so expensive!!

took a little night-walk yesterday. memo to self: dont turn iso up to 3000. dont forget your glasses, checking focus in the dark is a mess.

^ Feeling those

Another couple digital shots from Occupy London, i'm scanning the film tomorow

That one needs more contrast I think, also is the head in the right distracting? Thinking about dropping it out, but want to keep the shot in thirds and all that
