If there's one thing I don't need in my life, it's excessive amounts of slow mo of Chase Webb's face.

Yeah, I made it to the closeup of the water drop, and couldn't take it anymore.

If anyone can download, speed up about 2-4x, and reupload I will watch on mute to catch the tricks. Thanks.  ;)

I was gonna say Michael Bay, but he has that whole ''save the world'' self-righteous vibe that I get.
Michael Bay would be like whoever made B-True. Generic-ass action movie with no personality.

I actually really enjoyed parts of we are blood, like the Spain, China Brazil, and dubaI parts.  However those sections were straight up skating with some fancy filming and some non fancy filming.  Little to no slomo.

The other sections were almost unbearable because ty thinks he's weaving some emotional visual tapestry.

I'm still annoyed that his edit for lakai one that won contest where etnies had the sickest 90s look.

This looks like it could be cool but once again I'm sure TY will ruin it with his own vision of this elaborate emotional nonsense.

The skits in Yeah Right were a bit long. I didn't watch them more than a few times - cool once or twice, but nothing to keep going back to b/c once you get it, you get it. Plus the Skatrix one was bad, I read that it was difficult to make but still. The skating and music more than made up for it though.

I think he got banged up so it’s hard for him to follow on a filmer board.   I think he also words for Brain Farm that specializes in these types of videos.  He’s just trying to push skateboarding cinematography, but unfortunately for him, no one wants the kind of innovation he’s providing.

Not a single full non-flatground trick in this video. Also, Antonio Durao doesn't have a part in this but he has the last trick in the trailer? Ty....

However, fuck all of this "Yeah Right" wasn't good talk. If Eric Koston skated to a better song for his part (love Frank Black -- horrible fit for his part), it would be very close to a perfect video.

I don't get it... Who is this suppose to cater to?? People who don't skate?

Not necessarily people who don't skate, but people who don't see the difference between skating and rollerblading, bmx, etc.

the closeup of the water drop

This was very telling for the kind of tone/theme that Ty wants to represent, and it's awful.

Ty is kind of like a musician where his albums aren't consistently good from start to finish but the good parts are amazing. Unfortunately lately he has decided to take the flops and make fully terrible concept albums out of them.

It's still a great video, but probably more so for skaters who started mid-late 90's or later. I personally wasn't feeling the soundtrack as much (not into GnR, Frank Black, that annoying girl group in McCrank's part etc), but it WAS sick to see full parts from some people you might expect to only have a few clips.

Yeah, that's straight blasphemy. Mouse is untouchable.
Mouse is very touchable. It's almost all shared or short parts, there only like, three or four real parts, it's mostly schoolyard footage (though that was clearly the style at the time), the dude who had the best part in the video shat on his legacy and what made that part special, minimal Mike Carroll footage, and, pound-for-pound, more overproduced skits than Yeah Right. Compare that to full parts from BA, Gino, Carroll, McCrank, and a strong showing from Kenny Anderson? Seems like an easy choice to me.

Wether you prefer Mouse or Yeah Right in terms of cast and level of skating that's up to anyone's taste. But in my opinion the big difference was that in Yeah Right you could clearly tell that someone was trying to show off with fancy camera equipment and special effects. The skits in Mouse were funny and creative, the ones in Yeah Right were mostly hollow and boring.

That's all personal preference, as well. Skits are skits to me, and I laugh more at Owen Wilson's dialogue than Charlie Chaplin on a skateboard, or that news chopper one.

Ty has hit the ceiling with all his toys and rigs. And that water drop fetish he has is getting old and repetitive. This just feels like he tries to use as much gear as possible for each trick.

It would be good to see what he can pull off with just the normal hd and fisheye rig these days.

And what’s up with this Ghost Cinema company? Is it under Girl? Looks like their old logo.

He’s not hitting the ceiling, he is the ceiling... don’t you think it’s cool how much he cares about cameras and equipment and filming skateboarding? He’s his own genre.

Also it’s about using the latest toys and rigs so as skateboarding media continues to evolve, so will ty and his videos... he’s single handily responsible for bringing a lot of new technology into the sport. He’s helping grow skateboarding into something larger I️ fucking love it.

Side note: Why is everyone always dogging on using new video cameras (drone, steady cam) and editing styles-

but no one seems to mind if literally every other aspect of skateboarding is improving/gets improved?

From the actual skateboards themselves to the clothing aspect which ties into brands...  all the way up to the internet which has made everything in the culture universal and more accessible. All progression, all good.

But seems like everyone hates Ty on here. Why? If you look into the future Ty is a visionary and he’s allowed/allowing skateboarding to evolve into something more cinematic ... slowly but surely people follow his lead.

I️ am and will be confused about this because he has something to offer IMO and I️ see a lot of older cameras and played out editing styles that are honestly just the flavor of the month, vanilla and boring...

Bottom line - Ty moving forward with or without the opinions, just don’t understand why people so damn against it.

Sorry for ranting just thinking about this a lot lately.

I️ totally understand everyone has their (globe) opinion

That's cool that you love it. But other people, with other opinions, hate it. He was not the lone person introducing new technology into skate filming. But obviously you feel that way because you've got eyes for Ty Evans for some fucking reason.

We aren't. We praise lots of new things and new techniques. But mostly, we praise and celebrate creativity that has it's merits. See also: 'Spirit Quest', for a case study of using technology creatively, and editing in a cohesive and interesting way. People love that shit because it's new, interesting, and isn't a fucking 6,000 fps slow-down gimmick.

From the actual skateboards themselves to the clothing aspect which ties into brands...  all the way up to the internet which has made everything in the culture universal and more accessible. All progression, all good.
Cool. But this is kind of a pointless observation about the internet's impact on skateboarding...I guess?

Alright, we've established you have a candle lit shrine of Ty Evans in your Mom's basement and that you think about him, and peoples' opinions of him a lot. But I'll pose a question to you - why do you feel like he's leading anything other than the masturbatory overuse of slower and slower video clips?

I think it's more plausible that the dislike for Ty Evans comes from him being completely and totally out of touch with what skateboarders seem to want to watch, and how they want to watch it. Ty is great at showcasing skateboarding in a way that Volvo could use the clips and editing in their next commercial. Ty is increasingly worse and worse at making skateboard videos that skateboarders want to watch.

The Green motif sucked.  Combo of horrible skits and Ty Evans seemingly artistically stunted in the project by the company or spike.  I was a fan of his trans world stuff.   Ginos switch backside 180 and his whole part tho.  I don't remember one other thing about that video.

Maybe you're right that the video is for kids but I'm not gonna watch it anyway.
It's healthier for our society I feel, if we do not market to 'kids'.

All the old dudes hating this shit but don't realize these type of videos are for kids. Remember that jenkem bit where they interviewed kids in New York and almost all of them said Pretty Sweet was their favorite video?

What you think a skateboard does?

At the end of the day you're right by insinuating skating markets to kids to stay afloat.   But it was the adult aspect to skate culture that drew me to it in the 80s when I was a kid.

The problem with guys using too much technology and gadgets is that 99% of the time you get lost in it,
you get lost trying to control technical things and it overcomes the creative part of making a movie/video.
That's why most of these videos end up looking like tv commercials. And also why most of old school people don't like it, it looks corporate, which is the opposite of what the essence of skateboarding was in the beggining.

There is always going to be people who make underground videos and less hi tech videos, vote with your dollar. I mean is anyone looking forward to a new Chase Web part? This is just Ty's video, he obviously has a demographic for these videos, mainly kids. I'm just saying there's literally nothing to bitch about or lose sleep over. I don't know, maybe I just don't care. Ill watch it if its on youtube and say the slow mo was overused. I really don't care for anyone in this video

Ty's shit is making you guys so emotional. He must be doing something right.

Was just thinking this. For so many people not liking it and not caring, this got a lot of attention and a few emotional responses. I like what Ty does, I can appreciate it for exactly what it is.

EDIT: Well said Tobey.

Ty is raising the bar like James Cameron (https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSBxXviRKKi6JOw9bjBCg06wdydYN4xgFhq7Ab5S4y5PzqRgH7uVA)
I've gotten used to HD edits and whatnot, except when its in 4k. I still use a Sony handicam and baby death lens to film, and I use it more than the DSLR that collects dust. My homie films only with a gopro, thats about as close as it gets to brocam filming other than portrait held cell phone footage.

A bunch of people in here are either 16 years-old rehashing what 45 year-olds are telling them or washed-up skateboarders mad that things are not made like H-Street videos.

Mouse was a great video, but I am old AF and I didn't see it when it came out. I saw it roughly five years after its release. For people in there late twenties and early thirties, TY made the films we watched from Modus that the legendary Marc Johnson part to Yeah Right, which was I wanted the Flip video to be, a nearly perfect video.

I get so tired of people basically saying "I miss when video production was bad, because skateboarding was more real". I mean, give me a break. I will buy this even though I spent a ton and don't have the money to do so, because I respect Ty for constantly pushing the boundaries in his filmmaking process and working with young skaters, who would not have gotten exposure.

Good, but by that stage in the video you're exhausted from the music, special effects, filming, etc. Like everything else in the video, it's kind of wasted, and it's a real shame.

Vote with your wallet, buy it if you wanna support this sort of thing and don't if you don't.
If I can work out how to watch iTunes shit on my big ass TV I'll buy the fuck out of this.

I also bought three other videos this month alone:

Zero Video Collection
Baker 3
Extremely Sorry

Beside the horrible wide angle lens that makes lines look like ea skate 1 the filming is very pro. The rolling side shots are dope and the long lens stuff is nice, reminded me of the volcom video.
But as far as creativity it's a mix of a toyota/unicef commercial and a Ibiza VJ.
Why push the boudaries of skateboard filming towards Michael bay? We should aim for Stanley Kubrick instead.
I'm aware the reason is that there is no money incentive for actual creative people to stay in skateboarding...but still.

Also feel bad for the music as there is literally hundreds of super dope electronic music producers on soundcloud who would give their music for projects like that. beside the tobin intro, there's nothing helping in there.

Just because something is new and pushing boundaries doesn't mean it is good. And that video was dog shit.

Ty made a bunch of classic TransWorld vids before Modus

Sorry, not Yeah Right, was a near perfect skate video because it intentionally trimmed the bloat of slo-mo and alternate angles.  Rowley’s part was so good, he got SOTY just for filming for it.  As much as I like most crailtap videos, they get a little laggy in the middle

Pretty sure Sorry actually got Arto SOTY for that year. Then Really Sorry got it for Apples. Different era, I'm sure stuff that contributed to getting him SOTY were ads or in interviews which got it for him that year.

I think just the hype around Sorry got Geoff SOTY the year before Arto. In regards to editing, Sorry is an unsung hero. It's very polished and calculated, but since Fred bypassed basically any gimmick he could get sucked into (Bastien's part notwithstanding) the video still retains that "raw" feeling that makes it special.

Yeah, like I said, just filming for Sorry got him SOTY (he didn’t really have anywhere for that footage go).    When it was actually released, Arto got it for his part.

Also, what I miss from that era: bad ass SOTY covers.  BA’s obvious Cash Money one and Rowley juggling hand grenades.   Wish they would do that again.  Distinguishes the cover from just a regular cover trick.    I mean, is Foy’s SOTY cover gonna compare to first try El Toro fs crook?   (Maybe!)
