yeah, and i voted for daewon.  here's why: cheese and crackers is fucking amazing, taking a whole type of skateboarding to a new level.  on top of that, all the print coverage i saw of daewon this year was ridiculous, including his recent slap "week with" article, his sort of runner-up article in thrasher last year, and the crazy ads he's had all year for almost, boost mobile, matix, etc.  add that to the fact that he easily could have won it last year for the almost video and "skate more", and its clear that daewon was the correct choice.

plus, i'm glad to see a vet get the award.  it seems like the last several years its been given to younger dudes coming up (cole, appleyard, trujillo), but i like that a dude who's older is getting SOTY as an acknowledgement of the progression that he's made in the past, as well as the progression that he continues to make.

all that said, i don't think anyone who voted for daewon is dissing jerry hsu.  i like jerry hsu.  his part in "bag of suck" was fucking amazing.  and drehbol kills it too.  i just think daewon was a better choice, in that he's an innovator who contributed more than just a great video part.

the whole idea of holding someone up for high acclaim goes against what skating means to a lot of people. or at least it used to.

have a Skater's Hall of Fame, but this yearly awards shit is for the insurance industry and bullshit like that.

not saying that any of the skaters that have gotten SOTY or will get SOTY in the yearrs to come don't deserve praise, but come on.
