For people complaining that Daewon didn't put out enough this year, the majority of Jerry Hsu's footage was from the last couple years, not 2006. Both of them deserved it, and its a step up from last year.

no one should have gotten it this year since there was really no one doing anything new like the years before ( cole trujillo way..)
and no one really stood out.
of course thrasher would never do this.
its nice to see dae won get it but i feel like its more like a lifetime achievement thing.

yeah seriously. if skateboarding in 2006 is going to remembered for something, it will be hsu's part.

kingpinmag as far as europe goes - i don't think they would it, because they have too much love and ideal for skateboarding in general. they want to see rather different styles and creativity then a überripper. that what think

It's not a just a video part that goes into SOTY. It's supposed to be photos, videos and contests as well. How many photos and interviews has Daewon had this year? His Cheese and Crackers part was insane and all of his photos have been top notch as well. I'm sure his two video parts from last year came into play, but I don't think you can take anything away from him. Chris Cole had two pretty good years in a row the year he won. He had been killing it consistently.

yeah, and i voted for daewon. here's why: cheese and crackers is fucking amazing, taking a whole type of skateboarding to a new level. on top of that, all the print coverage i saw of daewon this year was ridiculous, including his recent slap "week with" article, his sort of runner-up article in thrasher last year, and the crazy ads he's had all year for almost, boost mobile, matix, etc. add that to the fact that he easily could have won it last year for the almost video and "skate more", and its clear that daewon was the correct choice.

plus, i'm glad to see a vet get the award. it seems like the last several years its been given to younger dudes coming up (cole, appleyard, trujillo), but i like that a dude who's older is getting SOTY as an acknowledgement of the progression that he's made in the past, as well as the progression that he continues to make.

all that said, i don't think anyone who voted for daewon is dissing jerry hsu. i like jerry hsu. his part in "bag of suck" was fucking amazing. and drehbol kills it too. i just think daewon was a better choice, in that he's an innovator who contributed more than just a great video part.

why would he put out another part next year? meaning.....for what reason/company? basically, he should go over to lakai so that those guys can have an excuse to wait until 2008 to release the video.
