Most accurate/comprehensive deck dimensions
« on: November 14, 2021, 02:02:19 PM »
Where do you go to find the most accurate and comprehensive dimensions? I know everywhere seems to be all over the place and no one trusts anybody, but in your experience what sites seems to be the most accurate?

Tactics and Sunland Skate list everything including nose & tail length, what are some other places that go into that much detail?

One of the most accurate, imo, is 35th ave.

I remember seeing both a Uk and a Japanese site, that included lots of good info, now and tail lengths, and maybe widths at the truck mounting holes….super not helpful.

I'm not sure if it's still the case but didn't Tactics actually measure all decks that entered the woodshop? Their deck dimensions have been spot on, but trucks measurements have been a mess.

Skate Warehouse is decent, and more brands (DLX, Zero, DSM) list their measurements on the website.

Recently had a weird experience with WKND when I found out they list deck length measurement flat across the deck instead of tip to tip. The BP shape was a 31.1" versus the listed 31.5".
Venture Truck Height:

5.0 & 5.2 LO
STANDARD - 1.88” - 47.75mm
FORGED - 1.85”- 46.99mm

5.0 ,5.2, 5.6, 5.8 & 6.1 HI
STANDARD - 2.09” - 53.09mm
FORGED - 2.04” - 51.82m

Is there even one site that give all the correct measurements?
If I not go to a shop, I usually ask them to measure the length (flat and straight across), since that is the most important for me.

Maybe here on Slap might be the source for the best info, often with people who measure boards they have.

PS Stix measure the length of the boards with the concave (tape measure flat on the board) so their measurements are often longer than what it would be if they were measured straight across, as per most other companies and woodshops.

Quite a few brands list their basic (width, length and wheelbase) measurements on their websites, but they have been known to be out, on occasion.

Some shops are really good with listing all the measurements (as above and nose and tail lengths too), some have just some basics (width, if that) which is rather painful.  Decent pictures really help too, in checking board shapes, etc.

But as far as shops that have dimensions, some are better than others.

As listed / measurements from shops:

http://www.35thave.com/

https://www.tactics.com/

https://www.skatewarehouse.com/

AU shop, not a huge selection but always good info / measurements:

* I am sure there are more I have forgotten right this minute, but can add more as needed.

while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

with all the advanced digital technology available and adapted to board manufacturing, board manufacturrer should be able to provide precise measurement of their boards.

Sometimes I see deck dimensions on a shop site and think "Surely that can't be right" but most of the time they turn out fairly much right if not spot on for everything else.

More than anything there are a few typos, eg on Tactics, I had seen a board that should have had 6.625 listed as 6.25 tail, so they just forgot a 6 in there.

There was another really good one the other day, something like a 1.45 wheelbase - meant 14.5 wheelbase of course, but maybe they ran out of coffee or had other things going on that day.

Boards don't really change that much nowdays, with fairly general dimensions, but I know I feel like it is not going to be a good day when I get a board that is even 1/8" too small from what it was supposed to be, no matter where, be it width, wheelbase, nose or tail.  At least I always just take it off and pass it on to someone else who is happy to have any board, but for someone who is spending hard earned money and cannot afford a new board every other day, it would be a rather unfortunate situation.

Let's take this Krooked Deck as an example. Maybe my math and my info is off, but I always thought DLX measures their decks straight across.

This are the specs from the site:
6.5 + 14.38 + 7 and we add the mounting holes with 4.25 which makes 32.13 instead of the said 32 length.

I want to find a 8.25 deck with a 6.5 tail and a length between 31.6 and 31.8

Mostly old-school or shaped boards, but loads of info (woodshops, artists, concave, WB..), and the guy knows his stuff regarding truck dims, examples of possible setups, etc.

Very recommended, would support if I still lived that side of the equator.

I had forgotten about that one.

There is a whole folder of favourites / bookmarks of boards just from his shop alone on my other computer.

Conflict was always the best with shaped decks, as they had the width over each truck as well as all the other dimensions.

That in itself is really handy for working out anything other than normal popsicle shaped boards, eg Krooked Gonz board is 9.81 wide, but 9.1 over the front truck and 8.75 over the back truck or something like that.

They also had a good range of boards in stock and also didn't take down the sold listings for a fair while so I could still find lots of board info from their shop, even if it sold out in minutes.
