if they dont seem high res its probably your focus thats soft, try taking some set up photos and hold down the shutter half way to auto focus, thats really the only thing I cant think of. Pretty standard point-and-shoot camera

My parents bought this camera for me for my birthday:

http://www.digitalreview.ca/content/Sony-DSC-W570-Review.shtml

I don't know shit about digital cameras but the photos don't seem that high of resolution even though it has 16 megapixels. It's a little weird. Any ideas?

What do you mean high of resolution? Like when you view you photos on a computer, are they already pixelated when you zoom in? Or are you saying the photos don't come out clear? Even though a camera is 16 mp, you still have to shoot photos properly whether you are shooting low light stuff or just plain outdoor stuff. Post some examples if you have some.

I think I figured it out. It has some "intelligent auto" feature that was lowering the quality, and I just turned that off.

I normally shoot on vivid mode, which pretty much makes the colors pop out. I do photoshop each photo but it's really just to fix the white balance a little, levels and to sharpen the photo. To me it looks normal on my iMac but sometimes when I check out my photos on other computers, shit looks way to vibrant. I have a normal mode but photos  just look odd. Maybe I have to mess with the settings a bit.

What color space do you have Photoshop set to?  It could look different because of that, or if your monitor is not calibrated.  Maybe it's the Nikon Vivid Mode, I'm not sure.  But on my monitor, it looks like you were masturbating with lipstick.  It's just strange that similar hues on the cat, (nose) seem within the natural color gamut.  The crazy colors can be cool on some stuff, like long exposure night shots, but when it's flesh it can become distracting.  I think it looks nicer a little more natural...

I see what you're saying. Yeah....my method is kind of fucked right now. I just got a new iMac but I haven't installed any photo editing software. I am supposed to get CS5 but my hook up is always busy with his job. So right now, I edit on my old Powerbook G4 with Photoshop 2. The screens from one computer to the next is so different that it's always hard to tell how things look. I guess the powerbook has things all washed out and the iMac I have has such a crazy contrast ratio and color saturation. Thanks for that insight though. I'll see if it makes a difference in just toning down the colors a lot more and setting my camera to normal mode.

FYI, I made a hue/saturation adjustment layer, masked out everything but the hand and bumped the reds a few points warmer, turned down the saturation and lightened them a bit.  Oh, and I warmed the yellows a couple points to compensate for the color aberration that the warmer reds created.  Cool looking cat, by the way, what's its name?

His name is Bodhi, which is named after the Patrick Swayze character in Point Break. I got him as a rescue when he was 4 weeks old. Pretty chill dude.  It's like having a mellow small dog that doesn't need to pea all the time.

Feeling this one.  How did you get the border?  Photoshopped something together or did you file down the edge of the film holder in the enlarger?  Or something else entirely?

I fucking love that 'Opticians' photo but they're all sick. Feeling most of the stuff on your flickr too, you need to get out shooting more dude.

Ha, cheers Mooley!  Shot way more a while back when i was filming skating a lot more than now - found myself in more interesting locations and situations, something which I've only noticed recently as I don't film so much at the moment.  Making the effort though, should get some more bits up online soon enough...

You got it. My school's got like so many filed down negative carriers so I didn't even have to do the hard work.

I took one of him at a Vans demo and he said "I like that you use film". I fucked the roll up and will never be able to see it, but the picture in my imagination is probably better than how it would have turned out. Glad you got a portrait of him, he's a real cool dude.

Went to some crazy SF art show for this guy named Lush at Upperplayground. He brought out some strippers from the Lusty Lady and had a whole peep show with his hand painted art on them. It was pretty interesting needless to say.

Words can't describe how awesome Lush's work is. Incredible graffiti writer.

I haven't been shooting  that much lately. I did buy a Hassy 2000FC which I'm pretty stoked on, however I haven't had time to shoot with it much. The system is incredible, I can use 1/1000+ shutter speeds, so I don't need to use flashes for skateboarding photos that much anymore.

We did this sick project for a local shop. I shot four girls and then  we glued them on electric box and shot a photo of it.

We wanted to have the 90's graffiti vibe on it

Yeah.....Lush is a pretty odd dude in a good way though. He has that Neckface mentality. Here is some of his stuff from the show:
