Kids don’t want a strong creative front. They want to cool thing the cool guy is doing.
they may not be able to articulate that a strong creative front is what they want, but that is absolutely what kids want.
all the most popular and successful brands with the youngins have strong visual branding and consistent art direction. FA/Hockey, Polar, Quasi, even the more mainstream brands like Primitive.
branding is really all you have when it comes to board companies. everyone is offering essentially the same product more or less, there's not that much variation in wood or shape. Tyshawn seems to think that this brand will be carried off his reputation as a skateboarder and cultural force alone, which may or may not be true, but if he took even a LITTLE more care with the branding, graphics, and art direction, his reputation would be able to carry it quite a bit further. Instead, he doesn't seem to think it's necessary and as a result, most people are thinking "well, I like Tyshawn, but..."
