that long lens filming has to be some of the worst out
loved that zappa song and everything else tho
-
Pretty soon, we'll have pros have entire careers where we don't see what their upper body looks like.
-
I'm generally a fan of a more closer/zoomed in filming style, but this is really awful. There are some clips where all you see is feet from start to finish of the trick.
Nosegrind Nollie Flip out up a 7 stair ledge, where you can't see anything above his calves.

hard pass.

Shout-out to whoever backed into that handicapped rail so hard it grew a pole jam.

I don't tend to get as bothered as some folks when it comes to filming techniques or trends, but this is borderline unwatchable. Filmers seriously need to move on from this asap.

I made it 3 minutes and 35 seconds. I'm done. Looked like some decent skating, it was hard to tell though...wtf is wrong with filmers today??

a secret conspiracy by the big shoe co's to just film feet, perhaps?

Nice video, but i think the soundtrack is kinda dissapointing for WKND standards. Also Considine always brings the hype! That sesh in the middle with the curb bank spots looked really fun mixed up with Mango and Callum!
-
Worst WKND edit ever.
Shocking long lens filming.
Whole thing just felt a bit lazy.
Damn shame.
-
It's really hard for me to be bummed since I have liked literally everything Grant has put out so far, but damn I'm disappointed in that filming. I almost feel like he was making fun of Strobeck with how bad it was. Let's get back to that VX now Grant.
-
Dill was right all along.

Ya'll some ratsoup-eatin mutha fuckas. This video is gold.

trevor, zac and caleb. too good. hopefully grants not the one who filmed that strobeck bullshit.
-
I hate the knee down filming as well, terrible. I found it got better after a few min but maybe that was my brain adjusting. Really liked the skating obviously, not my fav wknd edit but enjoyed. Thought for sure Alexis would have her own part, Jordan Taylor i understand is working on another part but was waiting for his as well.

I don't mind a couple clips mixed in with the close up filming, but when it make up over 50% of a part it's just ridiculous. The trend needs to end.

This is ridiculous filming, Fat Bill is subtle compared to this mess. They’re filming just the skateboard, but that’s a stupid idea because you can’t see the skateboarder or the skateboarding. This is not far off those gopro edits with selfie sticks - a gimmick with no perspective. Wknd have really shit the bed with this one.

I thought it was amazing, as their videos always are. Little strobecky at times but the edit and the skating made up for it, I feel like if the 100 videos that have come out in the last 2 or 3 weeks I’ll actually watch this multiple times.
-
I have been trying to avoid negative posting but this filming is truly awful. WKND has had killer edits in the past but this wasn’t it.

My favorite part was when the police started dancing.
That pumped me up to skate more than anything.
Not even joking
Such a random out-of-left-field directorial / editing choice to make haha.
-
Caleb is the best.
-
Watch any old video from the 90s and the filming is the same as this if not worse
-
i liked it, thought the soundtrack was great as well
karsten kleppans skating is pleasing

The thing is, it is about to be 2020 and we don't have to film like this anymore.

grant never disappoints and I’m going to continue to give wknd my money
-
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole video. There were maybe 40-130 too many Fat Bill Zooms.... but I dug the video for the skateboarding, editing, and the music was rad.
Also, grant has got to be one of the best “fisheye single ledge trick” filmers ever.
-
Has Trevor Thompson always been that good? Guy probably had my favorite part.
That Salomon part where he says he died was awesome.
I feel like I would have liked this better, if I could see the skaters whole body and not just the legs. I went into this thinking "Aw it can't be that bad."
It is.
Still love the WKND tho.

I'm gonna be the nerd that points out during the Tokyo montage they play that track from the original Blade movie, Yakuza club scene. Not mad about it.
-
I fucking love WKND, but that filming was horrendous. If I was on the team I’d be pissed that my hard work was so unwatchable due to someone else’s error.
-
Oh my god you guy are idiots. That video was sick as fuck!
-
That was a fun watch, and I'm upset I can't go skate now with the rainy weather.
Some of y'all need to lighten up.
-
I have an opinion about a skateboard movie and if your opinion differs from mine I will insult and degrade both you and your perceived sense of masculinity.
-
It wasn’t very large, there was just enough room to cram the drums in corner over by the dodge

I got so stoked when that song starts up,Bang Wa Cherry! Songs about some dirty shit though haha

Video was great. Loved it all. However the soundtrack was a bit rough at times. But I liked it a lot and will buy a hard copy if possible.

I didn’t even notice how bad it was till after I read this thread but every long lens clip is filmed the same. Everything else about the vid is awesome tho! Who can tell me the name of the first song?

I was very into Trevor Thompson’s switch manny variable flip the switch variables flip manny. More varial flips. After that I skipped to Malouf and then I bailed.
-
Karstens part was the most sensual video part maybe since Dylans passing. Johans part was sick but I feel like he still hasnt out done his cosmic vomit part.
-
Yes, yes and yes. Thank you Wknd for another classic one. Johans kick flip back smith, the first song, and the Miami and Tokyo sections were the standouts for me.
Very happy.
-
Waiting for the other edit that will have the credits, but am curious who the main additional filmer was on this project, as I refuse to accept Grant was responsible for filming the absolute worst clips in this.
Overall I thought it was OK. Just OK. Not a lot of replay value in this one, but that might be to do with length of the video. I'm glad they are including Who's To Say & Sir Palmer on the USB as those are perfect and timeless edits.

GX1000's "Roll Up" had "Uncle Remus", I can't remember who but someone else used "Peaches en Regalia" as well recently, Quasi used "Sleeping In a Jar" for their "Mother" video and now "Joe's Garage" in WKND's "Death Dance".
It's nice seeing Zappa's music getting recognition for being usable in skate videos.
-
Haven't really heard anyone's comments about the set pieces. I thought they were pretty sick. The intro and the Tokyo one. Lot of work went into them. Really love this video. Reminds me of something I would have cut together for my friends. That's a nice feeling to have in skateboarding. Really liked the slow dance in the middle of it.
The randoms like the guy smoking a joint after Gordy's 50-50 and the other dude smoking throwing the horns on the electric board were awesome.
Salomon - "If you're watching this...I died.
Also gotta add that there are some legit amazing shot's in the video that aren't zoom in's of feet. Loved the line in Tokyo that starts with the subtitles..
Andrew Considine is always fun to watch. He skates some crazy stuff and his expression's always crack me up. He always looks like he's staring death in the eye. Loved that part where he pole jams, then slappy, then rides down the roughest shit ever.

well said,
I liked karsten's little slow dance scene and "zac gracie on paid confirmed", sablone's animation work, and that barrage of hilarious credits in the montage.
(but like most people here, I fucking hated the horrendous legs-only filming)

I learned of Zappa from Lucas Puig skating to “Camarillo Brillo” my dad overheard the song and told me he loved Zappa and used to play Joe’s Garage with his band. Me and him played Zappa every time we were together up until he passed a few months ago. Not gonna lie I got a little teared up hearing it in this video.

The friend montage was well done. S/O to Tony Hawk's step-son
Great stuff, the filming can be unpleasant but, I'm watching it with my love for the brand.

I thought you guys might have been overreacting but thats dang annoying. Don't worry about how the skater actually looks doing the trick, style doesn't exist right? Just straight feet. So dumb.

The one that gave me that feeling bad was that straight handicap rail the skated that was bent up at the end. Someone 50-50 back 180 out and I wish I could see how they fucking did it.
Again love this video. Watching it again at 6am before I return to work from the flu. Good times.

If they filmed it like an oxygen breathing human being, you would remember who it was and not have to resort to "someone."

Same. Hearing any Memphis rap in skate videos gets me stoked, though. Still enjoyed this for what it was. Filming was wonky, but it didn't overshadow the fantastic skating for me.
-
Filming wasn't the best, especially knowing what Grant is capable of doing... but besides that, it was really an amazing video. Standout parts from most of the team, and definitely still had that WKND charm. I preordered the hard copy USB, which is so weird to say.
Anyone know the full track list? Also one of the best soundtracks of lately.
-
I only watched Trevor Karsten and johans parts when it was released on thrasher, but after watching the whole thing I can see why everyone’s complaining about the filming. A bit overboard, not only with grant (in this) but everyone that does it in general. There’s some videos where it works, there’s some that don’t (this, baker 4, etc.). BUT with that being said, the humor (in names) with the friends section (also hyped Toby had clips. That’s the boy) and just the Tokyo section in general, it made up for it. Sound track was fucking great as well. And thank you tunasub for the link. Would gnar if I could.
-
Damn I missed the 24 hour viewing period on the Thrasher site. This one going up on youtube?
My local just posted that they will have the USB pack. The talk about the filming does have me a bit bummed though.
-
Loved this, both WKND and Passport put out fucking gems. 2019 was a fucking doosie for skate vids. This made me want to skate so much, feel kinda bummed that I didn't buy a WKND board at a Zumiez while I was in Miami (was just hanging with my girl, so excuse the lack of coreness.) Mad props to Grant and his whole squad, this shit was a classic for me.
-
finally got around to watching this..
think the jump they did to HD was good, but i agree that some of the filming in this went a bit too hard.
i get the technique, but i just don't think it was executed as well a number of others..
besides that, really great full-length, and probably my favorite output of theirs.
I do think that the mix of travel/session and parts was a bit weird though. made it feel a bit disjointed
-
I slept on this one, link anybody?
I need to see Maalouf and Johan parts.
-

Maalouf doesn't really have a part.

What's crazy is Sablone, Taylor, Karsten, Maalouf, Molinar had a combined total of less than 30 tricks, in a 37 min video.

Just rewatched and I was hella bummed that they got rid of all the names in the friends section and just moved em to the credits
-
Couldn’t finish it after Taylor Caruso. Really underwhelming. Karsten had a few tricks that were really cool. Did like the editing though.
Does it get better? Give it a second chance?
-
I was thinking someone like Torey Pudwill would of really benefited from the foot fettish filming trend back in his hey day. Wouldnt have his tricks overshadowed by his used car dealership wavy arms trash style. Nonetheless, I hate this whole Fat Bill trend. and it has really ruined a lot videos for me. I remember my filmer friends getting chewed out if they cut out some ones head in a clip, let alone 90% of them.
-
Just rewatched and I was hella bummed that they got rid of all the names in the friends section and just moved em to the credits
Man, I saved the original thankfully. Will Bust is my favorite name. I think about that often and laugh.
-
Honestly prior to this video WKND was one of my favourite companies, but biting Quasi and than sending out USB's that don't work, only to send me another USB that did not work, I'm good on giving these guys any money from now on.
-
Did Strobeck supervise filming for this? Waste of footage.
-
First off, I'd be fucking pissed if my hard work - literally "blood, sweat and tears" - was ruined by being filmed so awfully.
Second, what's this about faulty USBs? Did they really blow it this hard?
Talk about a fall from grace. I used to love WKND, but this is humiliating.
-
I’m not a fan of the stroebeck filming at all but I still love this video. Shit gets me fired up.
