Rules are simple.
Film and post your flatground kickflip or heelflip or both.
No old footy, flatground only, film it special for the PALS or gtfo.
Don't do it down something, up something, or across anything, we don't care.
We don't wan't to see your whole video part (well maybe, but not here).
This isn't a contest, be kind, especially if someone actually manned up and posted a clip
This idea came out of the slap's skating skills thread. I decided to do both because I hate heelflips but people on here who actually have talent were scared to post their kickflips. I said I would start the thread with both so hopefully it breaks the ice. This isn't a contest, it's just to bring all the Shalomies together. I really thought I would have had 20 amazing kickflips to choose from but I realized last night boards pop is already gone so I'm not proud of my offerings but here you go! *Sorry, no idea what's up with my audio on those.

I only had 10 minutes before it started to rain but I got a kickflip. hopefully tomorrow I will find a dry spot for the heelflip.
I guess it only counts if we do both tricks the same day?

This is a great thread idea, unfortunately I'm currently indisposed. I actually take pride in my kickflip. In fact, it's pretty much the only thing I can take pride in. Can I repost an old one under the circumstances?

But trying those this morning made me realize how much I hate steep concave. I can usually kickflip over and over no problem, but the past month or two I've tried steep concave, but have mainly been skating transition. Just the huge effort it took to get a couple this morning made me realize I want a flat board again.

Also I guess I have to be the one saying it: I remember when this place used to tend to talk mad shit on the other skate forums at the time where people were (successful at) running stuff exactly like this. There was this stigma around filming flatground for strangers on the Internet that made you a kook in most PALS' minds. So part of me is surprised to see this actually kinda work out on here so far with no backlash. I think it's positive evolution, too - we'd do something similar over a message board I used to run around 2004 2009 ish and all that resulted was everybody eventually involved learned tricks and/or got better at them because of the emulation, and eventually started going on frequent trips around the country to actually meet and skate outside their comfort zone. Beats fucking crumbling down on an anonymous office chair lamenting life away via keyboarding.

You post on here, you're a PAL. PAL 'status' is indeed another world of specific mechanics one has to wear a certain type of boots to grasp, but here I don't think it matters whether both your post count and your kickflips are three feet tall floaters or awkward little barrel rolls.
What would kind of suck would be a influx of new members joining just to post their fucking kickflips but hey.

All I’ll say is I’m actually a really interesting person who knows an awful lot about skateboarding, and can skateboard at a high level. You’re going to want to have the gas pedal fully on the floor as you feather the clutch out. That little picture on the knob should tell you where you want to be. Usually “reverse” is labeled with a 1 or a 2. Should work fine.

I want to do a pop shove one maybe because I love how they feel, but they are a little boring. Maybe like a pop shove/360 flip. Something easy, something hard, something for everybody. I'll tell you right now I would not be able to post a 360 flip. Only one I have is from 3 years ago and that was like my first one in 10 years.

I think it look's cool, I was actually gonna try to mine the other night to get that look.
I'm not sure if it's the same for heelflips but I know the key for kickflips is to kick your front foot forward and out like a karate kick. It should be the same for heelflips because if your foot flys off the nose it will help push the nose down. If you kick down or to the side it's gonna go all over. When I heelflip I have to hang my heel off a lot and I aim the slide through the pocket on through the toe side of the nose. Not to Cheetah_Sheets anyone but my kickflips are usually really good. Yesterday was such a fucking hassle I swore of steep concave and setup an old flat deck this morning. But I read the "kick straight forward" tip in high school, forget who it was but they said kick forward and it honestly was game changing for me when I was younger. I can actually remember reading it in class then testing it and being blown away. Might not be a big secret but that is one of the best tips I ever got. I like mellow concave though so it's easier, when I do it with steep concave the nose sticks to my foot and slows the flip down. I think it would be less of a problem with a cupsole.

Your foot positioning is crazy to me but the outcome is a nice ass kickflip so whatever works.
When I first learned em when I was like ten my friend, who couldn't really even kickflip either, told me to do it like that, with my toes covering the lower left bolt slightly slanted, he said they were easier that way, and I eventually just got used to doing em like that. I wouldn't suggest that to anyone, looks funky as fuck but I can't do em any other way now. Wish I could do em like Reynolds with more of my foot on the board but when I do em like that they go rocket mode. My kickflips are like the anti-J.Wray hah.

I went outside to film one real quick yesterday and 45 mins later gave up. always took for granted that I could still kickflip, need to stop neglecting tricks.

I post to youtube. It's pretty simple. I also made a giphy.com account which is pretty easy to upload videos as gifs. Then I copy the link and put it in between [] [] put img in the first one and /img in the ending one.

These were really sick. I really liked your fakie front shuv. It looked really good and got me stoked. I've been having fun doing those lately. They're a pretty under utilized trick. Dill's in photosynthesis was sick, but aside from that and one I've seen Ben Blundell do I can't think of any really memorable ones.

^^ Appreciate it, to be fair though kickflip has always been one of my favorite tricks. I always kind of broke my skating into games and as a kid I remember I distinctively had the 'kickflip game', where I'd just try kickflips from unusual foot positionings and try to get different forms. A lot of my favorite skaters have very unique kickflips (from Quim to Donger to Gonz to Carroll to Maalouf etc.), so I've always found the trick itself fun to toy around with.
I remember Ben Gore catching me playing the kickflip game once and laughing at me, then doing the same thing, except he did a gigantic flatground kickflip from some fucked up foot positioning, laughed again, kept going then somehow casually hippy jumped through a tire standing upright (which I know doesn't sound right, but it was what it was) that happened to be there on the tennis court we were skating. I kind of started taking it easier on the kickflip game after that.

For kickflips it sounds like you're missing that ankle flick, you need it to work against the concave. Ollie norths happen when you just kick off the nose, but for kickflips you also need to brush off the concave at the right spot, basically you should aim for the heel-side corner of the nose, feel the side of your foot then your toes against the griptape as you kick your leg out, and experiment with different types of front foot action from there on.
For heelflips to stay under you, pretend you're sitting on an invisible chair, so that your back is standing upright and your knees are what you're bending (it's tempting to just lean over the whole thing at first, but that basically causes you to jump off and away from the trick all the while assuming it's the board that's going away). Landing on the board upside down is always better than completing the flip and barely catching it. Maybe focus on that and just experiment with foot positioning and flicks until you've optimized the flip. ^^ Appreciate it, to be fair though kickflip has always been one of my favorite tricks. I always kind of broke my skating into games and as a kid I remember I distinctively had the 'kickflip game', where I'd just try kickflips from unusual foot positionings and try to get different forms. A lot of my favorite skaters have very unique kickflips (from Quim to Donger to Gonz to Carroll to Maalouf etc.), so I've always found the trick itself fun to toy around with.
I remember Ben Gore catching me playing the kickflip game once and laughing at me, then doing the same thing, except he did a gigantic flatground kickflip from some fucked up foot positioning, laughed again, kept going then somehow casually hippy jumped through a tire standing upright (which I know doesn't sound right, but it was what it was) that happened to be there on the tennis court we were skating. I kind of started taking it easier on the kickflip game after that.
To be honest, hardly anyone can beat Ben Gore at the kickflip game.
This thread is making me much more appreciative of the California sunshine at my disposal (despite getting ass-reamed on my rent/cost of living).

Trying to keep up with everyone. Work has been nuts. Been wanting to redo mine since this weekend, this weekend was brutal hot, and then all the sudden it got insane cold. I couldn't skate more than 10 minutes after work yesterday, again today I went to the park and got it going for like 20 minutes. It's so fucking cold my board wont turn. I just bought new soft bushings but my trucks feel tighter than ever, so weird lol. Honestly though. Tomorrow I'm going to skate what I can and take 2-3 days off. Tomorrow will be 30 days straight skating and my body has been nagging for rest for the last week. Helped me get my transition to as good as it ever was, maybe even a little extra, street hasn't been as fun, but I blame myself for buying a board shape I'm not usually comfortable with.

It would be the easiest job I’ve ever applied for arguably in my life. I honestly don’t know of anyone in the whole world who could do a better job at being a high level competitive skate coach, and I mean that in a ll honesty. I would be the fucking Gregg popovich, bill bellichick combo on steroids for skateboarding. I have a higher skate IQ then just about anyone on this planet, and I’m not saying this shit to brag, it’s just the fucking truth. I have more knowledge about skate history then almost anyone I personally know. I have watched more contests then just about any human being I’ve ever met. I’ve been trained by some of the greatest skateboarders to ever walk the face of this earth and learned many many many things from them. If I was the United States Olympic coach it literally would not even be close. Our boys and girls would be better conditioned, have far higher skate IQs, be trained properly and with a strict regiment unlike how most skaters “just skate and get clips”, then any singular nation on this planet. I genuinely believe I do not think a single coach could even come close to me except for maybe Rodney Mullen himself. I have nothing left to gain from skating, so it would be cool to help others achieve that success. Like at the end of the day I’ve proven myself to those I respect more then anyone else, so there’s really no point in trying to impress people. I feel like skaters work so hard to try to impress people when they are good, other skaters, fans, tons of people, and it Becomes this constant thing about having to prove yourself. At the end of the day I’ve proven everything to myself and that’s all that matters. It would be nice to do something that was for something more then me.

Well thank you, my memoir would genuinely be a goat skate memoir and is a plan if I have the time to make it, mainly because I’ve gone thru a lot of amazing things in life, a lot of awful things in life, have traveled more then any human I know of that’s even remotely close to my age, have experienced many crazy adventures, and also cuz I have a profound love of skating and have spent many years thinking about it where others prolly have not. I would love to pass that knowledge off. Other then having great style and being extremely smart I wasn’t really blessed in the talent department skating. I just worked really really hard and spent hours upon hours breaking down tricks.

Our boys and girls would be better conditioned, have far higher skate IQs, be trained properly and with a strict regiment unlike how most skaters “just skate and get clips”, then any singular nation on this planet. I genuinely believe I do not think a single coach could even come close to me except for maybe Rodney Mullen himself. I have nothing left to gain from skating, so it would be cool to help others achieve that success. Like at the end of the day I’ve proven myself to those I respect more then anyone else, so there’s really no point in trying to impress people. On your old screenshot, your center of gravity was very obviously off. But it looks like you learned it with the 'proper' technique from the get go, which most people don't do.

I was skating a park yesterday for my 30th day straight of skating. Was doing kickflips every try on my way back to what I was skating. As soon as I thought, I'm better with this board, I'm gonna redeem myself on SLAP, I landed primo, slipped out and crushed my hand. I thought I broke that shit because it hurt way worse than breaking my other hand in October.
I could hardly hold my board when I continued to go for what I was doing. I was just trying to go fast and 50-50 this long ass box and 180 out clean. This fat fuck was trying to show me up doing the slowest, ugliest, 5ft long 50-50, not even landing in a grind half the time, getting the shittiest excuse for a 180 ever. I just thought fuck this guy, I can do a shitty one if I wanted. With my hand throbbing I went Super Saiyan and as fast as I could, grinded the whole box, 180 out so nice, got a couple props because people knew I could do them but just wanted it to look perfect. I can do 50-50's all day but I hate coming out of them ugly. I forgot that people do that dumb shit and try to show others up. I've never done that ever. But it was nice to see his, and then I do mine and it was like what to do, and what not to do.

One-uppers fucking suck, the phenomenon is everywhere but I've observed this was even more blatant in the US (on my humble little visits). I remember pulling out my camera at a spot in Oakland just to catch a candid shot of something specific my friend happened to casually be doing (big stylish ollies over a volcano thing) just because, well, I thought it looked nice; before I could even fix my settings, some dudes were dropping in on my friend to try fucking 360 flips and whatnot already. I just had no way of seeing that coming and eventually felt bad because it actually ruined the session for my friend.
In Europe (again, from my experience), it's mostly the little kids who do it, and in general they'll be a bit more sneaky (e.g.. casually move to the part of the spot people are filming at, to then regularly snake the skater between turns to try a trick just in case the filmer would catch it; or sometimes even just stand there in the fucking background just to be in the shot). I guess in all cases it's repressed people who in turn are super opportunistic.
Proper etiquette when you see somebody try a trick that inspires you to try too is to come up to them and ask if they mind, that should be a given. Hope the hand gets better.

Thanks for the well wishes. Yeah, exactly. It's nothing new but I forgot about it since I hardly am at a good enough park that I stick around. I was annoyed but didn't really give a fuck because the dude was dressed like, skated like, and acted like an all around kook.

Hope nothings broken in the hand. Sometimes you just need to go Super Saiyan on a trick, the faster you push and less you think about, the more successful you are.
I'm having zero success kickflipping on my current setup which has a twin tail. I can only kickflip popping off my nose, off my tail and I ghost pop.

I questioned skatecrunchmag because I saw a post on IG where they called it Shuv It to Cancer, tag your favorite pro and see if they'll do a shuv it but I didn't see anything about a specific person with cancer, it was like 2 days after this thread was popping off and we were already discussing doing shuv its next. I didn't know about the lady I thought it was just some bullshit to get follower interaction. I asked if this was actually a real thing and later learned about the lady and offered as much of an apology as you can on Slap.
Also yes we will keep it this thread and try to change the title or some shit.
Wednesday we'll do it with cancer as the motivator instead of just showing you have the balls to show slap your skills, hopefully that will get more people on board. Someone said varial flips would be funny too and it's only fitting to dedicate one of the worst tricks ever to cancer.
Start filming and hold it until Wednesday. Thanks, dude. I've never rolled away from a heelflip. I did one in the living room several months ago on carpet goofing off, but never managed to get it done while out really trying them. Then my hip started giving me trouble and now it's an after the surgery to fix my hip goal.
Sounds like you had a hell of a heelflip for sure. Long ways over a can is fucking gnarly. I can't imagine moving that fast and deciding flipping my board is a good idea!

ha thanks, I seem to have definately developed my own style with kickflips. I do them with quite open shoulders which I know is a bit of a no-no, but they work well enough for me.
I fell down a proper rabbit hole over summer last year with them, would end up doing 50 odd in a session just trying to perfect them. Finally got kickflips where i wanted them, was landing like 8 out of 10 every time, then rolled my ankle over the nose on one, and after a couple other injuries they tend to come and go a bit now... but on a good day I can get that nice dip on the go and catch a few nice ones in a row.
When I recover from this latest ankle roll I want to keep working them a bit more to get consistency back (lucky if I land 4 in 10 this year), but try and stop short of each session becoming an obsessive kickflip marathon.

Got a nice heelflip with a sketchy kickflip to follow up. I was too lazy to continue the session for a proper line but at the same time was too stoked not to share this one with you guys.
