found the trademark for glue skateboards. listed to leo, cher and stephen ostrowski. obviously leo rides glue boards in the new THPS remaster but you think by this point something would be announced? seems like a real missed opportunity

As said, the brand was officially announced in the latest Thrasher. The interview with Cher, Leo, and Stephen is a great read. They touch on the roots of the brand, discuss the lack of support throughout the industry for LGBTQ skateboarders, praise Arin, call out Jamie Thomas for totally failing Marisa Dal Santo, and much more. Definitely worth getting your hands on.
Glue is gonna be huge, and I can't wait to see what comes of it.

My nostrils are ready to sniff

im down for this, hope it succeeds. stephen ostrowski is the shit. wonder what wood they're gonna use...
-

After reading your comment I subscribed because I’m tired of hearing about articles I want to read that never show up online. Thrasher should pay you a finders fee

Don't know what the new article says but Marissa herself outlined it pretty clearly in the past - Jamie pushed her to skate on a professional level and she didn't like the pressure. She didn't agree with/understand re-filming tricks and preferred her previous life as a contest skater. Props to her for doing things how she wanted but if Jamie never pushed her to skate on a higher level none of us would have ever heard of her, for real.

I'm assuming thps will help. But I thought the videos for the skaters after a career run would be big selling points like in the olden days. So are they full of product placement?

She would probably be like what Vanessa Torres is today- well known but not someone with a legendary video part. If anything she did Jamie a favor because that’s literally the only Zero video part I’ve watched more than once since Misled Youth. The novelty of dudes doing big handrails and no lines ever kinda wore off. Good for her proving a woman could do it, but good for her saying it’s ridiculous. Like she broke her ankle refilming a trick that probably looked fine as it was.
-
Marissa Not going pro after that part regardless is a fucking tragedy to skateboarding. She's litterally a GOAT, sure ZERO maybe wasn't the best fit, that's fine. But no other brand saw that and was like, yo, we can work with here on her own terms. That's a fucking failure.
but that interview was actually pretty fucking sick, there's so much great shit. Like Leo and Cher being internet friends before meeting. Cher apparently was a CASL kid and on Termite. Arin messaging cher for advice before transitioning. Man, I havent read such a satisfying interview in a while.

...Not possible for her to have realized her potential on her own?
Nice of ol’ JT to offer encouragement, but all credit for her abilities goes to her.
I mean, I’m not blaming my homies for the fact that I suck, just because my friends didn’t push me to try harder. Being a wuss is on me. Being a badass skater? That’s on Marissa. At least, that’s my take, but I see your point.

I'm just going by her own words. She explicitly said she didn't like the push to skate gnarly stuff, so it's safe to assume if Jamie didn't push her like he pushes everyone she probably would have stuck to contests and possibly never even had a video part. The only other part I've seen from her since is nowhere near the level she used to skate at, and definitely would not have resulted in the same legacy she left with her Zero part. The whole reason people talk about her is because she stepped up to some decent sized rails and gaps, and that was for sure because of Jamie. She definitely gets 100% of the credit for her skills, but she wouldn't have been the same skater without Jamie, as she clearly stated.

great interview, great people, excited to see where this goes
-
I think Leo skated a short wheelbase, like 13.75 or so. They could really differentiate themselves if they produced that on boards around 8.25 or 8.5. I would try one, and I’m sure it would be a good size for a lot of people

irrespective of all the ins-and-outs on Marisa's career, make no mistake that The Chief always had womens backs in skating. There just frankly wasnt that many that good penetrate the industry, but he was (and probably still is?) a big Elissa booster and I think it was a legit push for more gender equity and honestly, women make up a massive part of the population that essentially represented a fuckton of missed business opportunity.
Now in 2020 Lowcard's IG has more clips of women than men. Elissa did a lot of that work, and had a lot of support from Tum Yeto at the time.

Agree. Looking at 2009 through the lens of 2020 just doesn’t work, times have changed. It doesn’t make sense in the interview to rave about Marisa’s Strange World part but then shit on Jamie - without Jamie pushing (ie being The Chief) and backing, that part never happens. So 2009 Strangeworld Zero has Marisa and Elissa, while the entire rest of the industry couldn’t give a shit about women/diversity.....but it’s Jamie that failed women in skating. Good one, dopey.
Also; (from article) “I wanted to do this new brand because there’s basically no real queer representation in skateboarding”.....really??? Hey, it’s all good, new brands are great, and Leo wants a platform now Meow has been dumped, but let’s not pretend. Glue is joining the scene not starting it.

2 things:
1. Marissa's part was in Strange World, which also featured Elissa's return to Zero and the "pro ranks" which is probably why Jamie didn't turn her pro right away ( has any team ever had more than 1 female pro? )
2. Is glue trough DLX? With the Spitfire connection and Jim backing Cher a lot I could see it.

How Marisa didn’t go pro midway through that part is insane. That’s the part I wanted to see most in that video.
Think of it this way - now that that part is on YouTube, kids can see it, get stoked on Zero because of Marisa’s part, and buy a zero board even though she no longer rides for zero. That’s shitty. She was on for that part, used up as a resource, and then dropped.

The Chief has always been an overbearing skate coach/tiger mom to all his riders, hasn't he? Didn't seem like he treated Marisa much differently than anybody else. Not saying that women aren't constantly belittled in skating, because they clearly are, but in that case I didn't get the sense that it was because she was a woman.
Seems like anybody who can leave Zero for something equal or better, does immediately - Greco, Ellington, Mumford, Cole, Allie. Everybody else probably couldn't escape. Respect to Marisa for peacing out on her terms

That green deck certainly makes a case for this. If it's through DLX and they make an 8.75, i'll be all over it.

jamie told marisa that women's names on boards couldn't sell. he offered her a weird percentage on royalties... no salary, no ad incentives, nothing.
she turned it down then he cut her hours in the warehouse and let her go. then he used her pro graphic he pitched to her but replaced her name with his on it.
i was working at blackbox when this happened

this was almost 9 years ago. it was pretty similar to what the board they ended up giving her looked like. it was jamie's name in Misfits type.

edit: i think this is an older graphic actually, before my time there. although jamie just reused the same three graphic elements over and over and over

Best thing about this is that there is so little variety in zero graphics that the description could literally be any board

Would be so rad if Glue was through DLX.

Would be so rad if Glue was through DLX.
Going off of context clues (Former Meow/917 riders) I doubt it would be through DLX, as both of the aforementioned brands are through PS Stix. I'd love to be wrong though.

ISUCK is a disgrace to humanity.

Stephen is so beast, Leo is sick, Cher is sick. Stoked for this brand. Stephens last video was insane.

I can’t name a single impressive trick Cher Straub has ever done. A super sketchy back heel in candy land I guess.

Creating space for queer and trans skaters is awesome. I'm excited to see what Glue comes up with for art direction and video production/aesthetics.

Glue is going to be rad. I happened to randomly skate alongside Cher a couple of weeks and she was filming something related to this new brand. Absolute ripper. She saw me scorpion face-first into the ground trying to slappy an unwaxed curb. I'm still in pain. Good times.

Most companies gonna try to recruit their own lgbtq/people of color now. With supreme backing it... Baker/deathwish already ahead of all companies. Personally I’m tired of watching videos of good white people skate, shit is just so boring. Bianca/917/Olson never truly came through for any queer skaters At all, it was all bullshit and that’s why everyone is jumping ship. People in the industry will scram for Minority riders eventually and they’ll all be hooked up.
god I hope not. I don't think minorities where ever a trend in skateboarding. If they where it it must have been before my time. Where they under represented? Yes! but I can't recall an era where it felt like teams where putting on a black guy just to round out the roster of white dudes, like they are with women, atm. If the industry treats LGBTQ like a trend, or a quota, then that just means that they're gonna drop them when the trend dies, leaving them high and dry.
what women have boards out on major brands? Elissa, Samaria, Lizzie, Sky, Leticia, Alexis? Am I missing anyone? True meow sort of feels the gap but if you look at the top "Pro" women in transition and street, half of them don't even have a board sponsor. Jenn Soto wasn't in call waiting and She's not even on the primitive website.
Glue, Unity & There, need to hold it down, cause when brands get tired of showing how inclusive they are by flowing instagramers, these kids are going to need something real to look up too.

Anyone have a scan for the article or can helpfully summarize the situation?
Don't know what the new article says but Marissa herself outlined it pretty clearly in the past - Jamie pushed her to skate on a professional level and she didn't like the pressure. She didn't agree with/understand re-filming tricks and preferred her previous life as a contest skater. Props to her for doing things how she wanted but if Jamie never pushed her to skate on a higher level none of us would have ever heard of her, for real.
...Not possible for her to have realized her potential on her own?
Nice of ol’ JT to offer encouragement, but all credit for her abilities goes to her.
I mean, I’m not blaming my homies for the fact that I suck, just because my friends didn’t push me to try harder. Being a wuss is on me. Being a badass skater? That’s on Marissa. At least, that’s my take, but I see your point.
JT has had Elissas back too. Maybe he pushes too hard, but Jamie seems like an ali to the female skate scene.

ah thank you! i was looking for this for a while but had no idea who made it, who was in it, or what it was called.
I actually definately want to buy a stephen board. I'm not really sure if the person's pro model has ever really influenced a purchase until now. I'd buy a Kenny Reed board if it exists. Northern Co. guest model?

Ace trucks, spitfire wheels new board. Just throw in some Swiss and we have great times. Of course not backing the swoosh. I wish this brand all the best.
Seriously, fuck Nike though
you know it is just another nike skateboards right?
Is Numbers still happening? If so someone needs to free Durao. That dude is too good. Even Silvas knew better, and that dude is soulless.
Hear me out....Durao on glue?

People want a Stingwater video, not some wack numbers shit or a nike part. Not that numbers is ever getting a video. He will have to sort out his finances but it would be a shame to film all those clips and promos for nothing. Might as well finish the video and put out something more unique than waiting under another nike tree waiting for an apple to fall. And stop sniffing glue, DP will be on Palace before that happens. Crack is wack. Glue too

Sorry but that fucking triggered my shit

I’m sure it’ll never happen, but what a world right? I think he would fit, I kinda dig the company, I could see myself picking up a stick from no comply if they get them, meh just bouncing ideas at the wall

Just hear him out, Andy Anderson is gonna be on too. Leo Braille helmet freak and Durao. Stacked team

Durao on Hardbody, cmon lets do something that would work
Also that Akobi kid from the melodi videos is on Glue
-
Cher, Stephen, and Akobi were at some local skurbs yesterday, and may I say... That Akobi kid is fun to watch & has a different approach to skating that I found refreshing. Cher & Stephen were great to skate with as well, but I couldn't not watch that one dude, for fear of missing another brain scrambler. Hope he's getting put on, he'd make a neat addition to the team.

Entitled reminds me of Untitled Skateboards, which, if my recollect is correct, was one of those late 90s/early 2K Jesus brands.
Maybe Judd “Farmboy” Heald rode for them for a minute?
Anyway, ever since Jesus & I had a falling out, I haven’t been backing his shit, or anything that even sounds remotely like it.
To be fair though: have I bought a B&C deck yet? Nope.
And I actually LIKE Marc, but no shapes for me yet. Also, dumb company.

Wow a other skate company thats probally the same as quasi

I have two questions -
1 - what is the Cher story post people are talking about?
2 - that post with Corey and Welsh... Welsh is wearing Vans...
-
Jenkem approached Cher Strawberry to fill out one of those One Sheets they post on Instagram. Cher filled hers out and at the bottom, wrote an entire paragraph calling Jenkem lame and accused them of trying to meet some kind of "diversity quota." They didn't publish it (or hadn't published it yet) and she posted it on her IG story saying something about "you asked me for this but then you just posted Brian Anderson's instead."
-
She was bashing converse for not reposting her part
-
Thanks heckler. Cher strawbery is seeking attention because its been a minute since candyland and no one cares about those shitty songs

put ostrowski's name on a board please! i want to ride it
^^same here. But to be honest i have mixed thoughts about building business around sexuality (of any kind)
That and somehow trying to own "we be the first serious queer company" is a bit pretentious imo when you have unity/there skateboards (or any project with Jeffrey Cheung involved) these recent years.
in summary: gimme that Otrowski pro model / art directed company. And please let me doubt of anything slightly Supreme connected (maybe i'm getting a little conspiracist here but is there any reason why Todd Jordan's doing the interview?)

Hey man....you like yayger Eaton , your opinion of anything is not needed, and its usually wrong, just sit in the corner nestled under your daddy (yager) waiting for him to force feed you some more dick

Find me a quote in support of him. You seem confused
-

They didn't publish it (or hadn't published it yet) and she posted it on her IG story saying something about "you asked me for this but then you just posted Brian Anderson's instead."
She's calling out Jenkem for trying to "meet a diversity quota" by featuring her skating while going hard for Supreme, a company owned by a private equity firm that is the manifestation of the war on terror era military industrial complex (and had HW Bush as a fucking board member). Not to mention that Carlyle also has a major stake in Booz Allen Hamilton, a consulting firm that has its hands in basically every nightmarish surveillance program you can imagine. Very punk rock!
Can't think of a better crystallization of why so much of the inclusivity marketing shit in skating feels so hollow.
-
Exactly. Mallpunk kadow shit
