I always felt there was a Helmet influence on this, with the repetitive (in a good way) riffs. This is easily my favorite Sepultura album

immolation are hella underrated in the death metal world imo. i think it's honestly in large part due to the fact that they don't have as good of a logo or album art as a lot of the other "big" 90s DM acts. even just in terms of the metro NYC area, they deserve to be in the same musical level as incantation, suffocation, or mortician. for my taste, immolation is honestly even better. such good tom rolls in the durmming, such an incredible touch of melody without getting corny. but their album covers and t shirts and all that just don't look quite as sick as their peers. but pretty much every immolation album is good, like up there with cannibal corpse or morbid angel in terms of being consistently sick af. just my 2 cents.

Echoing this. Creeping death and genocide pact are by far my favorite death metal bands at the moment. But real talk creeping death is probably the best band to come out of DFW since power trip.
I also just realized I missed seeing them with exhumed because of being in El Paso and that is bumming me out so badly.

New Waking the Cadaver is super fun! Even tho I'm not super familiar with their older stuff I know they used to get hated on by the Trve Death Metal Police but this new album is solid as fuck IMO. Loads of sick riffage mixed with dumb heavy Slams/Breakdowns!

It's crazy to me because they've been talking about this project for well over a year, and this album was announced awhile ago, but metal-heads are still stumped by the whole thing. Personally I dig the album a lot. I'm a fan of ambient/krautrock/experimental but far from an expert, but I think it fits well with their aesthetic. Rad that you got to see them live.

everyone was seated. So I was gonna wear an AC shirt to the event but I went to a record store/ skateshop to pick some shit up. The cashier was blasting some heavy shit so I asked him if he was going to show that night. He’s like yeah I’m going but did you read the fine print on the flyer and points to this tiny line of text essentially asking everyone attending to dress formal. Had to run out on the middle of a sesh to iron my slacks haha.
My girl couldn’t go so the next day we played it in her car and went through a car wash with crazy lights and tri-foam.

Nocturnal was the gateway record for me. I still think it's where they found their sound. The leads get more professional and are inarguably better after that record but I love the shreddy, almost Eastern-Euro folk sound of the leads on Nocturnal.

I saw them a few years ago and they fuckin brought it! The frontman’s banter is hilarious. He doesn’t even try to be mysterious or cult or whatever. Just a goofy Finn who’s psyched that people still like his band from many years ago
Along similar lines I also saw Rottrevore recently. They’re a pretty slept on 90s east coast DM band but they really nailed the tone of classic OSDM on their only LP, and they still had that same tone to a shocking degree live 30 years later

I had been listening to the that first LP and the advance singles for the new one and really liked the older stuff but thought the new cuts didn't have the same sound. I still wish I saw that set as they sounded so good. The singer is huge, basically looked like a pro wrestler, and his voice is very legit.

it's funny cause when i first looked them up the metal archives pages stated antisemitism as lyricsl themes. that was my main pointer. but thats gone now. google search results still shows the old text.

i honestly hope i'm all wrong cause they sound amazing. but war/beastial black metal bands too often turn out to have racist leanings so i allways feel like i have to check first.
I mostly check the lyrics and their lyrics (if available) for any obvious pointers. But in this case I can't really find any evidence of their political stance.
As long as the art of the band doesn't depict any racist or nationalist views I'm fine with it, but I am not a fan of political music, no matter what political beliefs they have.
In this case the music seems to be mostly about Barbarism, Nuclear shit and War, which, if you boil it down is just as stupid to sing about, but at least it seems to be non-political

Yeah Brodequin rules, I had no idea a new album was on the horizon. Sounds a little more produced than their previous albums but I have no doubt the album will be one of the best of the year.
