They got my friend with it.
They promise desperate people an easy money flip, tell you you have to record a video saying how "_______" helped you out, they're the best, hit them up for an easy money flip etc. and then when you send that vid they keep telling you you have to send more $$$, or make more videos for your return that never comes.
Fred is def smarter than that, but whoever hacked his account has the same idea.

More likely it went down like this:
Dude convinces Fred Gall he will make a bunch of money.
Asks him to make the video before he gets the money.
Somehow also convinces him to give up us login info.
Doesn't send him any money (obviously), logs in to his account, changes the password, posts up the videos that he got fooled into making.
I repeat, no one is making a deep fake for Fred Gall with 44K followers.

damn that scam.
so the videos are real. the attacker is abusing the "forgot password" function on instagram and convincing the victims to send them the 2fa (2 factor authentication) sms / text code or login link so they can verify the person before sending the money back.
unfortunately, they just take over the account with that info, change the password, lock out the victim, start hitting up the victim's friends and the cycle continues
i got hitup by a compromised account recently and they wanted my cash app @ , so that must be how funds are getting transferred / stolen.

Did you watch the video? It looks completely unnatural. look at the shadows on the border of his forehead and hat. And how his face looks super airbrushed? I would bet on the video being faked, people do it all the time.
And I could certainly be wrong but it seems very weird. Even the background slightly moving while it's being filmed. If I am wrong it sucks Fred fell for this that hard. Talk to the people in your life that aren't great with tech and tell them to be careful.

this is extremely weird. it looks like someone is filming him but he goes to stop the recording himself. it looks real but that helps me believe it’s not. unless his phone is just slowing falling down and then also moves back in the other direction.

Who honestly falls for these scams? They are so blatant it is ridiculous. Sucks for the people who do, I'm just surprised it is somehow effective. Like, if anyone had that big a trading edge on a market inefficiency, why the hell would they give it away for a relatively small return, which likely will lead to that inefficiency being exposed.
Some people are just fried and so desperate for a lottery win that they don't want to see all the obvious red flags. All you need is one little thing that makes it seem like it could be legit ( like getting a dm from a friend's account) and they're gonna go for it. Also with all this crypto shit, things like this start to seem possible as there are people who really have gone from zero to billionaires with that shit. Probably a lot of them subconsciously realize it might be a scam, but ignore it because they're desperate.
Kind of a bummer, and would've thought Fred to be street smart enough to not get played like this
