so the videos are real. the attacker is abusing the "forgot password" function on instagram and convincing the victims to send them the 2fa (2 factor authentication) sms / text code or login link so they can verify the person before sending the money back.

unfortunately, they just take over the account with that info, change the password, lock out the victim, start hitting up the victim's friends and the cycle continues

i got hitup by a compromised account recently and they wanted my cash app @ , so that must be how funds are getting transferred / stolen.

Did you watch the video? It looks completely unnatural. look at the shadows on the border of his forehead and hat. And how his face looks super airbrushed? I would bet on the video being faked, people do it all the time.

And I could certainly be wrong but it seems very weird. Even the background slightly moving while it's being filmed. If I am wrong it sucks Fred fell for this that hard. Talk to the people in your life that aren't great with tech and tell them to be careful.

this is extremely weird. it looks like someone is filming him but he goes to stop the recording himself. it looks real but that helps me believe it’s not. unless his phone is just slowing falling down and then also moves back in the other direction.
