Just wanted to make another thread about an amazing band who I appreciate a ton. Dudes are amazing live and Glow On has been my number one album of 2021. Can’t praise them enough!
-
Just grabbed tickets to two dates for the 2022 run, saw them like 3 times this year. They don't miss.
And you really have to see it live to get it.
-
The TLC music video awakened something inside me and now they’re one of my favorite bands all of the sudden after I wrote them off for years
-
saw them up here in NYC at Irving Plaza in August. was a hell of a concert.

Waiting on the Love Connection tour tickets to go on sale to get those for 2022!
Seeing them live is something else too. Only caught the end of their set in sf last weekend due to the insanely long ass line I had to wait in but damn TLC live made everyone go wild.

They did a presale yesterday on Ticketmaster code was "Turnstile" to unlock. Today is a live nation presale.

Nah, I wouldn't do that when it comes to Turnstile. I grabbed a buddy a ticket for one of the dates cause he didn't have the money to do the pre order but I wanted to make sure he got in the door. Everyone must see them live at some point
-
was never sold on this band. liked some early EP’s and thought they kinda fell off. played this fest with them in 2018 and my buddy and i were watching them. he turned to me and goes “is the drummer playing wind chimes??? for real???” and we both looked at each other, recognized it was true said “ok this is actually pretty sick” moved closer to the stage and i’ve been a fan ever since
-
This was one of the shows I made of theirs this year.
The energy during this was insane.

fully deserves an appreciation thread.
nonstop feeling was a pivotal album in getting me into hardcore, been so cool to see what that band has grown into. gotta get some tickets for the 2022 tour.

The Midway was a shitshow last weekend! I miraculously showed up right as they started a second line and was able to catch the full set. They bring the energy for sure! Cool to see how they can kick it with both the rap and hardcore fanbases.
-
proud of the baltimore boys for getting more hype and making more money, new album ain't for me but there's a couple tracks i like for sure
-
Going to their show in KS in May. Never been to one of their shows so I’m mad hyped. Making my girl (who doesn’t listen to their music at all) go. If you see me there say what’s up!

nah it’s more James Addiction that RHCP
Think his name is Perry Farrel or something close to that

my best friend did the animation for this. they don’t like HC really so it was funny to watch them work on it. i thought the EP and step 2 were good and the album this is on is OK. weird that every drip at the coffee shop asks me about them now cause i have tattoos and a skate.
-
Bump.
Just found out about this band....instant super fan. and I knew they'd be talked about on Slap.
I listened to a lot of hardcore in my teens (basically learned english though DK lyrics....well and Thrasher) but I kinda grew out of it, so this mix of hardcore with other sounds/rythms/influences hits perfect for me. Really hope they tour Europe soon!
this was my first exposure...."Holiday" song started and I was instantly sold...

idk if he got the boot per say. some people say he was just burnt out on all the touring that they have done since that LP came out

turnstile feels like they've evolved into a band for peeps who say nonsensical phrases like 'its a whole vibe'

I googled it and looks like it’s a rather common horrible take
https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/turnstile-glow-on/
The Baltimore quintet’s genre fusion and their belief in its transformative power are equally responsible for frequent comparisons to Rage Against the Machine, 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and maybe even Incubus—
It wasn’t meant to be a diss, I like chili peppers and faith no more.

didn't take it as a diss, tbh i don't really care. i just don't hear or see the similarities. no idea how you get rhcp 'scooby doo california' or 311's 'amber' or whatever to any of the tracks on their album. the only 90s influence that may be apparent would probably be siamese dream era pumpkins.

that's an interesting comparison, i'm not sure i'd make the connection there because billy was kind of whiny. for me there felt a late 80s vibe like suicidal tendancys, or bad brains, etc... but then the singer harmonizing the way he does brings it closer to peppers or faith no more but mostly in the approach not that you'd mistake one band for the other. just an easier way to describe it to my wife.

A friend of mine beat up the guitar player when he tried to cool guy him about his shirt. I guess he thinks because he knows a lot about My War by Black Flag, he’s extremely knowledgeable about music & can then flick a cigarette right in your face. Like I said, my friend got the last laugh.

they are playing in the netherlands 2 hours from where I live in June.....On one hand I really want to go, but on the other hand I'm scared my nearly 50 year-old ass will not survive the pit ha! Stage-diving for the first time in over 25 years would be neat though. :-X

Yeah I still don’t get the attraction. They’re better than most new stuff coming out but in the hardcore ranks I wouldn’t consider them anywhere near the top.
I see them as hardcore for people who don’t like hardcore. Maybe that just makes me old though
Give me some agnostic front, sick of it all, shutdown etc any day

Not an untrue statement....I used to be a big fan of Black Flag, Bad Brains and all those early bands but nowadays I very rarely listen to that stuff. And it's precisely the fact that Turnstile incorporate non-hardcore elements into their sound that draws me into it.....(the little electronic flourishes like 808 toms, melodic vocals with a lot of effetcs).
Some people mentioned Trapped Under Ice and I went to check it out, but it feels too much like straight-hardcore for me to get into it. Any other bands I should check out?
I'm really out of touch with "modern hardcore".....

the positives of them being on that tour is that it's widening their fanbase and also potentially introducing them as a gateway to other hardcore bands. sure it will be weird seeing them play in an arena but to think of how far they've come, they definitely deserve to play a big stage like that.

I could maybe see the new Blink album being more on the punk side?
But there is an overlap with that post hardcore, Midwest emo, and pop punk kids.

i think the big draw is that it's Tom's first tour with the band since his departure + new album. moreso the former. but agree on the fan overlap. no doubt in my mind they picked turnstile because they are great at bringing the energy up, especially to a crowd of rowdy blink fanns.

thanks for the tip! I found it kinda has the same effect on me as Trapped Under Ice: I like about half the songs. Funny how modern hardcore just sounds a lot like metal, with those heavy riffs and the screams/growling.
Also about the tour with Blink 182: that exposure, combined with their 3 (!) grammy nominations, should make Turnstile blow up even more, in a very big way....Which I think is dope! I miss seeing "guitar bands" in the top 10 or top 20 of pop music.

I second the knocked loose shout
UnityTX, Kind Eyes, Buggin’ , Gouge Away, I Hate Sex, Zulu. Some of these might be a little too on the hardcore side but I think they each have a few songs you’d dig. Dance Gavin Dance’s new album has been getting a lot of play from me too.

So I saw them live in the Netherlands last week! Drove 3 hours in total to make it there and come back but it was fully worth it. Super glad I got to see them in a medium size venue and not some huge festival/arena.
Only regret is I did not dare enter the pit, too scared to fuck up my knee... But my son got his first taste of a pit haha!!
I'm also starting to get into Angel Dust and Free the Birds, the side projects by these guys. They really are productive and talented. Guess I'm a full-on stan now....
