what you guys think...except for all the YouTube/revive weirdos of course!
cata diaz comes to my mind.shes cute ,always smiling and has fun...all good!but she’s doing 3 or 4 tricks and that’s about it.
who else comes to your mind?
-
Its all about who's marketable, i don't think Nike SB cares about the trick variation of Cata Diaz if she has 538k followers...
-
Daniel Castillo or Ben Sanchez could be considered as such, but I always enjoyed their skating even though it was at best mediocre. I loved Ben Sanchez fast lines in SF with simple tricks.

Cata Diaz is a bad pick imo. her skill level is actually pretty good, her style has gotten a lot better you can see she has made huge progression in the past 2 years even. i dont follow her but i see enough clips of her to recognize real.
Terry Kennedy was fucking terrible on Baker 2g. worst excuse of a bluntslide on a ledge of all time, looks like last one i did. gross heelflip down the tiniest perfect 5. thats all i remember out of that part. but he got a lot better obviously... but im honestly not sure what people saw in him as far as skating ability i think they must have just liked his personality and known it was going to be huge.

This. Alex is insanely talented. You didn't get on Girl in the mid 2000's without having a ridiculous level of natural talent. Alex's issue is he gets burnt out on shit and then just doesn't produce while hoping to whatever his next interest in. Which probably keeps him happy, but probably isn't best for a productive skate career or running a business.

-
Who is Beatrice Diamond? And why is she coming up so much lately
shes the girl who skates for fa/supreme, i dont get the hate tbh her style is cool and she seems like a pleasant person
-
I’m not here to talk shit on Beatrice or question her sponsorships.. the only thing that throws me off is that she was actually better at skating 5+ years ago before she got hooked up. If you watch the old clips on her YouTube there’s some tricks well beyond 50-50 fs shoves. As well as some fucking hilariously bad fake Dylan arm steeze, but you can’t blame a kid for emulating their idols.

elise hedge. they are sponsored by converse cons, kyota umeki’s star team, and labor skateshop. they. act like hot shit. one time i saw them at substance they said hi and bye to me passive aggressively like im annoying the shit outta them. one day theyre probably gonna smack someone just by saying their name. like “LET ME SKATE” *smack* i swear every time someone approaches them they think theyre hitting on them every time like “i have a bf” like no one asked smfh.
they work at labor skateshop in chinatown ny and theyre probably not gonna get better at skating if theyre gonna keep acting hollywood cause acting famous when not being already out there wont get them anywhere. just cause you have a best friend in supreme and got bill to film you doesnt mean you gotta act like this biggest celebrity on the planet. letting yourself get annoyed by people that just wanna be your friend. being autistic doesnt give them a right to be a dick either.

i think it was cause the first time i met them i was talking to them at tompkins and i was kinda smoking weed in front of them and offered them some. if they ever come across this post im very sorry for making them feel like im a bad influence just cause i smoke weed. i even gave them that supreme sticker with a bear on it. and im sorry i called them low skill on this thread because i told them theyre an am and they deserve am. they deserve to take over the world through skateboarding and i wish them the best

an excellent video part. Probably the best part in the whole Darkstar video......actually I hated every part in that whole video EXCEPT his. There was some rando clip of him nollie-ing a trash can standing up in a line in like 2005-ish, which was wild. Not sure how tall it actually was but it looked dope.

Is he wrong tho?
He might skate 3 days a year but swoosh was filmed in a very limited time and that shit is timeless.
I agree with you mate, whoever is dissing him though is clearly trolling. Or deluded.

Pretty sure that most skateboarders had nothing but respect for Gailea Momalu. He had a really good style and trick selection and he was a pretty chill dude and easy to talk to and get along with.

There are many skaters I just dont get the allure of.
kevin white is not the least talented, but not above flow level. the fact that he's getting coverage and a pro board (albeit from a homie brand) is insane.
kyota/ shithed? those 2 dudes from ny are not talented compared to kids their age.
some of the girls on poetic collective are really not skilled compared to their other female peers, like if you can't kickflip you shouldn't be getting product.

Donger did stuff 25 years ago that few people could do today (last kickflip!) with amazing style and the guts do to his own thing 100 percent. Plus very few people had decent pop back then. That part is absolutely timeless.
Time period wise, that era is the place to look though I think. Seems to me like if you had a white tee, blue jeans, a company owned by your buddies and some half decent tailslides and crooks and you might have stood a decent chance of turning pro in 96/97.
What do you guys think, in what era was it easiest to become a pro?

No way. There was only a handful of companies and only a few street pros. So I’d say it was probably one of hardest times to go pro. Check out the old catalogues from the 80s, and there’s not that many pro boards. And skating those tanks was way harder than it looked. Fast forward to the 90s/411 era and there’s crazy amount of pro boards.
Besides, 80s street is mesmerising cos you really don’t know they’ll do, genuinely creative and bizarre - kinda sick. How tall is Lucero? That handstand was crazy.

That is to say, in the past you had to get “the nod” from somebody with the say-so/authority to do so.
Anymore these days, you can just make your own dang self pro, the rest of the industry be darned.

I'll argue that while "motherskate" is far from pro status, she earned her way onto MEOW and is constantly trying to push her skating while getting IG clips.
Her sister on the other hand? Nope. Totally the type to Revival/Bryte it.

elise hedge. they are sponsored by converse cons, kyota umeki’s star team, and labor skateshop. they. act like hot shit. one time i saw them at substance they said hi and bye to me passive aggressively like im annoying the shit outta them. one day theyre probably gonna smack someone just by saying their name. like “LET ME SKATE” *smack* i swear every time someone approaches them they think theyre hitting on them every time like “i have a bf” like no one asked smfh.
they work at labor skateshop in chinatown ny and theyre probably not gonna get better at skating if theyre gonna keep acting hollywood cause acting famous when not being already out there wont get them anywhere. just cause you have a best friend in supreme and got bill to film you doesnt mean you gotta act like this biggest celebrity on the planet. letting yourself get annoyed by people that just wanna be your friend. being autistic doesnt give them a right to be a dick either.
probably cause you’re annoying as shit kid
hey youre probably right. i am fucking annoying that it brings the dickhead outta people
where did you move to NYC from
i live right next to it

Paul Shier was kinda a 2 cent Rob Welsh
Get outta here! Shier is in in late 40's and no doubt skates better than you right now
-
It'll be me when I start my own board brand and give myself a pro model, 18 years past my prime
-
Every brand has (had) his Daniel Castillo.
FA has 2: Sege and Ben
SAGE? I could've understood if you said Sean Pablo but gtfo
-
Gareth Stehr. In his best days he was a dude that just jumped down or rolled off some gaps while wearing a scarf. Foundation must've gotten a tax break for sponsoring guys like him and Justin Roy.
