It's the most annoying phrase in skateboarding and I wanna know who's to blame. Feel like I heard it from Foy first?
-
its just something people say?? People have been saying "lets go" out of excitement for decades. its in songs from the 80s. its just a phrase

lets go Brandon Turner
-
Tom Brady says it a lot. There's even a commercial of him saying it repeatedly. MMA fighters and weightlifters and other broey dudes say it a lot. It's been around a long time but its current popularity comes from jock and meathead culture.
-
oh no LETS GO! https://youtu.be/aXJhDltzYVQ
I get the feeling it's from anime or some kids show these days tho

That would fit the kind of contest bro skater guys that popularised it as a roll away celebration like Foy, Zion, etc. Does the jah use it?

Mike V was the first one I saw he even put it on his street plant merchandise

Blitzkrieg Bop.
-
Yeah, Rancid are to blame and Tim Armstrong --- he invented "Let's go" and the idea of going
-
I think it must have come from wherever they are wanting to go to.

Damn ive never seen that Tom Brady compilation before, I knew it didn't originate from skateboarding but that explains a lot. I was at a skatepark about six months ago with a little league game going on next to it and some probably 10 year old hypeman in the dugout screamed LETS GO BRO after his team scored a run. quite certain he did not pick that up from Jamie Foy

The same place "Yeah baby!" and "That's what I'm talkin' about!" came from ...
I'm trying to get "Who do you think you are I am" trending ... Get it right, baby.

When I first moved to Los Angeles, I was going to the same gym as actor Barry Newman, who played Kowalski (a Vietnam War hero-turned-pill-addicted driver for hire) in the seminal film "Vanishing Point." The main thing I remember about this dude was that he would walk around the locker room, naked, yelling, "Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!" I think he had Tourette's syndrome.

Yewwwwwww is even more intolerable to me. It's absolutely fucking ABUSED in mountain biking.

A gentleman would yell: Shall we?

So now what came first, someone saying let's go or someone actually going somewhere?
-
It would be cool if people started saying LET'S COME!!!!!
Or if people started saying " LET'S STAY!!!!".

If you said “Let’s Go” at EMB in the 90s they would give you a swirly and steal your lunch money.
What even is let’s go anymore?
-
Pretty sure Rodney Mullen invented it

Well articulated sir
-
I like to think that both the guys who invented "yeeeeewwwwww" and "LETS GOOOOO" are on a raft together pumping each other up.
-
Heard this song and thought of this thread.... I want to say the current phrasing of 'let's go' gained popularity after that chris brown song, 'look at me now' in 2011...
He says 'lee'goo' in the beginning of the highly popular song.. Also notable that's when lil wayne started skating heavy and says 'got money on my radar, dressed like a skater' in the song at the height of lil wayne craze.
Part of my reasoning for that being that I worked in a highschool around that time and remember every kid saying that phrase and hearing it morph to grammatically correct but louder... 'LET'SSS GOOOO'
Not sure any other reference of 'let's go' mentioned in this thread line up with the current status of LETTTSSSGOOOO
"look at me now... look at me now... im gittiin pay-perr."
-

This is the most astute hypothesis on this thread.
But I would like to add in some Lil' Jon "Let's Go"s, which he yells out in many of his songs. In "Yeah" with Usher LJ yells out "Let's Go" at the beginning and starts up that sickass lazer beat. I think Chappelle even said the phrase in his skit in order to impersonate Lil' Jon. Obviously the concept of "Let's Go" has been around forever so there's probably no pinpoint origin but I do agree with others here and think the last big push to be the mainstream rowdyrouser came from TV fans hearing Tom Brady yell it and thought to themselves "oh I have GOTTA start saying that!"
Can you imagine?

After I had a dream I was a vigilantes sidekick.
-
It's jock shit
-
let’s go surfin now, everybody’s learning how

I wish people yelled "Indeed!" instead of "yeah".

Shannon Briggs "Lets go, Champ"
Oh hi I also have 3 posts and follow boxing
-
I've heard streamers say this since 2017, and at that time I thought Let's Go was kind of charming.
It's kind of annoying now.
-
Another hard hitting question that will only be solved with 10 pages of substantial evidence.
-
After I had a dream I was a vigilantes sidekick.
I assume your name is Tim and you‘re a lesser known character.
-
Youtube Gamers have been saying it for years...
-
Rancid sucks
-
Instead of "I know that's right" I opt for the more sophisticated "I believe that statement to be factually correct to the best of my knowledge."
-

I think Ne Yo may have promulgated the phrase’s surge in usage.
