I hate the way I push. It looks like i'm trying to stomp out a bug and I don't know how to dance. I'm actually a very good dancer and most of the time, i let bugs live. I've never been one to mimic another's style, however I would like some inspiration on maybe adjusting the way i pick up speed or slyly stabilize myself after landing.
There are iconic pushers like your Mike Vs - who probably has more pictures of him skateboarding mid-push, than pictures of him doing tricks. Its whatever it is, but- is it stylish? I declare that it most likely isn't.
I know some of you skateboard rookies might be thinking , "what in the fuck is this guy talking about?" But look around at your skatepark. You have your mongos, your straight leggers, the dancers, stompers, and your tippy toesers.
Now what about you? What do you think? How do you push and what kind of push do you like? Is there a skateboarder out there you see and tell yourself , "you know what? that person has a really really nice push."
-
not the best all time pusher but this one single push has always stood out to me forever as my favorite single best push.

I like Nik Stain’s pushes. He looks like a wild gazelle galloping majestically through a grassy field
-
-Kick your leg out in front of you
-Make contact with the ground parallel with your front wheels
-Squat slightly as you push
-Mind your arms, don't wave them around too much, maybe gently rest your front hand on your front knee
-Maintain contact with the ground until at least parallel with back wheels
-Let your foot follow through enough that someone behind you could see the bottom of your shoe
Now YOU have the best push!
-
Last week or so, I’m starting to think nyjah?
-
Mike Valley of course. Didn’t he have almost an entire part of just pushing?
-
Tony hawk pushed Riley out his cloaca
-
not leo romero but damn his feet-work works

Broussard or Gillette

No problem I thought it might be you but I couldn’t remember and I started getting mixed up with someone else who also posts Jake Rupps lost part.

One thing that made Doug "Pineapple" Saladino extra special is that he didn't just "ride" a half pipe as has been in fashion, he actually pushed up and down it, which made for a really unique look when skating transition. So for this reason I have to say he has the best push.

What goes on with the arms/hands partly makes the push what it is. couple of weird ones, but they work:
sean young @ :50. It's a little strange, but I like it.

james kelch, love how he holds his arms out.

Wrong, so wrong, so utterly wrong
Did they speed up Leo’s footage in that RUCA promo? Looks kinda sus
When I was a kid I loved aggro pushing but now that I’m older I realize it’s so stupid and doesn’t make you go any faster
Busenitz has a great one

I don’t even think about this kind of shit unless it really sticks out.

Me on yo momma….
-
lavar mcbride is a great example of someone with a good push, his pushes were huge but they looked casual at the same time
mike v push looks like someone playing linebacker on the sk8, very hesh style and not so much about board control
-
I love Julien's push. It's light footed but tough as hell. I can't think of a single clip where I've seen him do a switch push though.
-
I don’t care for pushers, I only care for grocery shoppers..
On a serious note, Ron Deily has a push that makes me believe that he can set a dance floor on fire.
-
Surprised to not see his name come up, but Shin Sanbongi has a sick ass push. Actually overall very stick style.
-
Bobby Puleo or Ricky Oyola
-
Kinda iconic, but if you really look at it actually rather ugly:

saying these two things back to back is special to me. Busenitz has an awful aggro push. and the leo clip isnt sped up, hes going fast as fuck..... what?
-
AVE has it. Photosynthesis has some good pushes. Honorable mention to Fred Galls rolled up Muska capri pants. Photosynthesis has everything.
-
Nick Boserio's has to be up there?
Ishod's for the chilled out casualness of it
-
Wenning, Gino , Puleo
also love Reynolds weird looking switch push

Busenitz doesn’t have a sexy push but he’s the only person I can freely give a hand on the knee push pass to, him mashing at 3rd and Army with that push is pretty cool, it’s iconic even if it’s not pretty
-
MJ has a good one

I subjected myself to that part twice and didn't see him pushing once.

Best push, the hardest and the swaggest goes to Busenitz.

the pushes that rowley takes before trying that sketchy ditch gap that he's never trying again always enticed me as a kid
-
Gotta kick high. Like when you're going long distance.
I like to pretend I'm escaping something but irl I'm going down with this ship. Might as well go out with style

Idk if this has been said but Brandon westgate’s is pretty powerful. I like how it’s only toes on the front and how the heel lifts up when needing to go faster. I think a decent example is in the intro to his made part.

Rob Welsh needed 2-3 pushes max to hit a multi-trick line across the whole of Pier 7. Dude had a powerful push for sure.

Jesse Viera's was definitely the most effective.

Anyone that can do that sleight of hand (foot?) shuv shit in the middle of pushing.

Oyola is tops too imo.
PJ irl not on video. He had the Ill cross town push. I really would like to see that again.
I thought his name was Rory tho. Rory number 3 aka Silent Rory.
That one shot in The Hstreet video. The beginning of the track I am Squeaky wheel. I can't think of who rn but that pushing sequence is burnt into me brains forever and ever as incredible style.

I'm not sure what you mean.
Like use your toes to switch the board around mid charge?
Also I enjoy the Huf push. Don't pop no style
-
Busenitz does

Something about how Chris Milic generates speed on a skateboard is eye catching. On the other side of things, Donovon Piscopo is an interesting push as well. But my favorite is prolly me, cause I push for myself.
-
ricky oyola and donny barley. especially switch but they both look great forwards too.
-
dennis busenitz push has been hated on but I enjoy it - unique if nothing else. will also throw terp in the conversation.

Chico and Keenan
Back in the day, thrasher wrote that kids try to imitate koston’s springy push. I wondered if that applied to me when I read it. Maybe I did emulate his push.
-
When I was attending Circus school in 04-05 I used to see this chick who would be skating around places. I noticed her push was very dilberate as it appeared she always had somewhere else to be. I don't know if she had the best push or anything but it certainly left an impression on me.

This is certainly the most interesting post in this thread. I'm not sure if there's more for you to elaborate on but I am intrigued.
