Yeah if I'm hella bored and can't find anything else to watch I will usually throw on a dan Corrigan vid where it has some of the powell transition rippers skating like kiko Francisco or whoever. He is still pretty annoying in the videos but at least there is like unlimited content. Although most of the Powell team seem like they are those local rippers that are out of touch with skate culture and what is fashionable so they end up doing some wack tricks like using the biggest bowl as a gap to flat or fly outs and shit. Kiko Francisco has a sick style though

You’ve really nailed one of my main issues. Aside from using A Anderson's talent as content for his videos. Aside from talking so loud next to the mic. It’s the constant, unnecessary close ups of his dumbass face. Remember on Ren and Stimpy when they’d show those jacked close-ups that were like, ultra detailed. That what it reminds me of. Barf.

And I don’t understand the hate, the dude is the breathing, skating embodiment of SLAP.
He has the same amount of dedication to the minutiae of skate mannerisms, openly jokes about &&s style to his face, has pretty much the same opinions, and is funny and insightful enough to actually listen to.
Isn’t much if a fashion whore, just loves skating.
He’s put in the time to become a good skater, but the snark is the main reason I watch.
I’m not a fan of the nostril hair close-up expositions either, but it’s not enough to hate a man. He’s out there doing God’s work and documenting a ripping team that doesn’t get nearly enough recognition.

I think Dan being a YouTube skater is in itself the main reason why he catches flack from people. I've seen some of his videos and I wouldn't call him completely insufferable, but some of his opinion piece videos (specifically his defense of Cariuma) was top tier kook shit.

I turned off view history, so the algo mainly gets fed videos I "like" and I basically already do that with QS too.
On my front page I often get some really solid weird small skate videos with only 1k-4k views uploaded 3-4 hours ago. Kind of wild and cool when YouTube does that. An autoplay loop of those would be pretty sick now that you mention it. I might give that a go while working. Thanks for the idea!
Side tangent... Some notables I've gotten were some random shredders from Philippines (over emo music) as well as a fun homies video from Ireland. Not sure how YouTube decided to feed those to me, but no regrets! Really cool videos!

To anyone defending this, here’s the issue with someone in their 30s dating a 20 year old. Think back when you were 20, you probably thought you were smart, but as you grew older you realized that you were just a kid who really didn’t know shit.
So someone in their 30s has an advantage over someone in their 20s. There’s a limit to how “mature” someone that age can be.
Also, in this situation she’s also a skater and Dan had a higher position than her in the industry, so he could’ve used that to his advantage, “I’ll take you under my wing.”
I think age gaps matter less the older you get. But 20 years olds should date their peers. That’s a rough time in life, where you’re an adult, but you really don’t have enough life experience.
Also, I’m 36 and I can’t imagine what I’d talk about with someone that age. Women my age are smarter, more established, and sexier IMHO cause they’re usually more confident.

And I was not saying Leo should get a pass, just that it seems like he tends to get one. Sure, people comment on it, but I feel like it’s not looked at the same way as other relationships like it because of his perceived attractiveness. Glad that he briefly mentions this hellscape lol. I commented about the relationship thing that someone else brought up, but as far as content goes—he’s nowhere as cringy as Braille and John Hill.
Folks make fun of his teeth and clothes a lot, which is pretty classist. You can tell that he had a hard life growing up and the video confirms it. Dude just wants to skate and pay his bills. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm pretty sure Dan realises that those people commenting on his videos are like guys who just started skating 3 months ago, teenagers or people who don't even skate anymore but still watch the videos because they're bored, yet people on here are actual skaters and are in general much more representative of the skate community. So I can understand why he would care about the opinions of people here.
I take back anything bad I've said about Dan, I actually like his videos and he seems like a pretty cool guy. Merry Christmas Dan, wishing you all the best for 2023.

Dan 100% lurks slap. I can’t remember his username but he’s commented in threads about him before. Say what you want about Reda but those “Wednesdays with reda” videos on the berries did numbers back in the day. Dan kind of fills that reda void but in better way. Less annoying and more skating. The random banter is what has drawn so many people to his channel. 100k people aren’t there to watch silent clips of dudes rolling around at skateparks. Most of the viewers are there for the shit talk. The day he stops poking fun with people is the day his views will start to go down.

Totally, but it’s okay for folks to question that. Especially since they’re in the same industry. He could be viewed as a mentor to her, which makes it look like grooming and it kinda would be IF he knew her when she was a teenager IMHO.
But again, she’s a grown woman. Maybe she’ll stay with him, maybe she’ll look back at the relationship when she’s thirty and view it in a different light, who knows.

For real, posters in this thread are dicks for bullying a guy into feeling like he has to make a video like that. Also lolwut, he looks good with a beard, you guys are weird as hell for fixating on that.
Shout outs to Dan for talking about being in special education. Sounds like he had some pretty debilitating ADHD (doing assignments, but losing them) and I really hope that there was an understanding of ADHD back then to get him properly diagnosed and helped. I was never diagnosed with ADHD, and in retrospect that was the primary thing that was making school difficult for me. He mentions talking a bunch, and getting very excited talking fast about something you are passionate about, which all can signify ADHD from what I know.
In a world inundated with the evils of Capitalism, being a YouTuber (especially one that doesn't profit off of directing hate towards others) is some of the closest you will get to not having blood on your hands in this world. I'm glad Dan is able to make a living off of his channel, rather than "starting a business" exploiting others, or being exploited himself doing roofing or whatever.
Dan said in the video he wants feedback to improve his videos. Here's my feedback from someone who's only watched a handful of his videos:
1) Dan's really good at trick tip advice, and explaining tricks. He gives really intelligent and intuitive advice when 90% of trick tips people out there give are pretty awful. I owe any bit of talent I have with nose manuals to him and his advice of balancing with bias towards the nose. He should make more of those videos, because he's great at conceiving of new ways of thinking about tricks.
2) I thought the game idea in this video was really neat and I want to steal this game to play with friends when I'm healed up: https://youtu.be/2zu64TIX_sQ?t=67
That being said, the video titles made this video almost impossible to find again. I was only able to find it again because I vaguely remembered the clickbait name. Regardless, it always gets me hyped to skate to see others learning new tricks in real-time.
3) The couple candid videos I've seen like this new one have all been really vulnerable, open, and honest which I think is awesome. We need more of that in the world and more specifically in skateboarding. Too many people who skate are fake, conforming, or project their insecurities into being negative towards others.
4) His Cariuma videos were bad. His explanation in this video makes me understand that they weren't made in bad-faith. I understand more where he is coming from, but Cariuma is still pretty awful and I'm skeptical of any of their claims. If we want real change, we need more union-made skate gear, and better-yet companies that are full on Worker COOPs. We need more people with platforms to be talking about Worker COOPs in skateboarding.

Honestly, GF gets too much love here when he’s more of a kook than most skate YouTubers. I respect the guys out there skating, trying to help others learn than some kid who mostly just talks shit. Dan made a good point when he says he doesn’t talk as much shit anymore, GH just contributes to the toxicity in the industry. Fuck that guy.

I'd say he's probably clearing 40-50k after taxes this year (California taxes suck like a mfer), including whatever sponsorship money he gets and stuff like that, according to that. Not pocket watching, just trying to answer your question, could be wrong as well idk how accurate that is. I mean, idk just a guess he has to have a roommate etc...so it's not like he's balling out of control like Kyro, or that revive dude. I mean John Hill done similar if not a little less this year and he's got a million subs, so Dan is doing great with how much subs he has right now. Like he said in his response, it's a job to him and he's actually getting what is allowing him to live a more comfortable life now, but he gets to skate a lot more than when he was doing construction. That's a fvcking win...for as long as it lasts as he mentioned, he should enjoy it and not trip off the small sht, he's living his dream. There is some pros making far less off their professional skateboarding career income.

Am a bit bummed to hear he renounced his pro offer from Powell because he didn't feel he earned it on his own merit.
Dude's fun to watch (or atleast can be) and appeals to an audience. He's a cornball, sure. But he skates well enough and has a unique style.
While kudos are awarded for not wanting to turn pro based on his "influencer" status, dude's turning down a great opportunity that he's no doubt dreamt of since childhood - paycheque aside.
Does he skate at a pro level? Not compared to some. But definitely compared to others.

Honestly think this ^ would be a good watch.
Dan seems like a genuine guy, agree with what someone said further back in the thread about his trick tips being pretty good compared to most. Also think he kinda deserved the pro status from Powell. I like his chaotic, sometimes off-beat style/trick selection, he a pretty creative skater really.
He has a deep bag and seems to be all about the skating which kinda validates the sincerity of it a bit more instead of just concentrating on whats popular and cool right now. I can watch him, Big poppa Degros and GH but thats as far as it’ll stretch with YT .

I love watching Dan. He reminds me of my this kid named Steven that I used to babysit. Dan has to be Steven's real father.
Unfortunately Steven is being raised in a hospital. There's nothing I can do to help and I've been told to back off.
The kid used to call me crying on the regs after they moved away and I guess my pep talks were corrosive to the game plan his parents want to run.
The kids a YouTube gamer now and refuses to participate in school and other social activities.

Essentially put, Dan (the "peon") Carrageenan is one of the few diseases and wretched mistakes that, due to the simple nature of the skating ecosystem, has to exist to uphold a sort of "backboard" for new skateboarders entering the skate space that have yet to know it's culture.

I queued up the video around 1:55:00, where he's talking about how much he loves skate park bullying, how much he loved bullying his friends, and how he would bully Dale Decker and Dale was, "jarred," by it. He then admits, "it's a weird relationship." No, it's not weird. He's just a dickhead and I'd be willing to put money on the people around him doing their best just to tolerate him.
I don't normally throw around the word toxic, but this man is literally in love with trying to get under his friend's skin and make his friends feel like shit. He is the toxic friend in the friend group. He also does this to his long-term girlfriend and he's proud of it. "I do things to Haley that I'd never put in a video." Does he not understand what he's saying??? There's a complete lack of self awareness and understanding of how he makes other's feel when he speaks. People who do this tend to be EXTREMELY insecure and very deeply troubled. I know that this is not rocket science to figure out...
The word, "narcissist," and all forms if it is thrown around way too often these days, but his behavior of bullying and personality traits are signs of textbook narcissism. When you do act this way to the ones you love or people you call friends it's definitely a form of emotional abuse aka being a total fucking asshole.
Yeah, some scenes do have a bit of an ego-jocking and pecking order type mentality, but more so when you're a teenager. When you're in your 30s it's not cool, respected, or fun to be around.

Saw dan at manzanita park the other day. It's like a career ender to ride for them. I hope that some of the cooler younger guys like Kiko Francisco can get out soon and onto a more legit brand.

Saw dan at manzanita park the other day. He was throwing a huge bitch fit because he couldn't back nosegrind and kept overwaxing the ledge, complaining about how old he is, and talking shit to kids who are just trying to walk past him in that narrow park. he ended up throwing his board into the middle of the little bowl while some kid was in there and leaving.
I can kinda relate to that haha except the talking shit to people. I don’t vocalize my thoughts, because I don’t wanna be the bitter bald old dude. Facing getting old is not easy.

I decided to click on one of his videos the other day and his board setup relative to his height did make it look like a longboard. Good call there. My stance on him has softened over time. I used to be an avid hater of his content but he occasionally puts out a decent video. He's nowhere near as bad as some of the other YouTubers like Jason Park and Ricky Glaser. That video he did recently where he discussed fs flips definitely helped me unlock that trick for good.

Nah as someone who had it done I can almost guarantee there wasn't much left to save. When theyre fucked like that they don't "pull" them the classic way since a lot of the teeth will just crumble or break at the gum line when you clamp down on them. They basically cut them out of your head in that situation. I asked the doc to save mine initially but then when I saw that it was just a bunch of gross fragments I decided against it.

There's lots of skate Youtubers I find very tolerable, Dan Corrigan is not one of them. Just go watch his Cariuma defense video and you'll see he's completely reactionary and a dipshit, just has no idea what he's talking about and basically says that anyone that disagrees is stupid or wrong.

That's a good thought. I too agree that his wb might be too long. I think it's more about his trucks are too low. This in my opinion exaggerates lethargic pop.
I primarily rode low trucks back in the until I got a high set by accident and then went back to thunders that was about 48mm tall. Bad choice.
Dan's switch flips
I'm willing to bet he hasn't seriously worked on switch flips since he was a kid and boards was smaller and eventually was like whatever I got switch heels pretty good. They more g anyway. Fuck a switch flip.

He's gotta utilize my Suddenly Unruly Kickflip Aerobic Discipline. To fix the switch flip and pull up and in for the big win.
You want your kickflips to look as close to what?
Your ollie's. This can fix it so they are formed exactly the same nearly everytime.
So
in a line you
Do switch Ollie then immediately where your feet land Do Not scootch like luan and do switch flip as it lays.
It's important not to set up perfectly because the way you've been setting up is obviously not working.

subconsciously expecting the board to hit his front foot like a FAKIE flip.
The exercise works tho. Everyone should try it.
If it's not working try a wider stance to slow down the flick.
With a wider stance you can really utilize the weight of the back truck to send it up into your proper flicking foot.

Honestly, I kind of dig that kind of video - a session with homies, makes, tries, things that are either too circus or sketchy to end up in a video part. It makes me feel I'm a young skater with friends living a good life instead of the shit place I'm in today.
That said, his comments bother me a lot. Things like "wow he's so consistent that's irritating", "he is one of the up and coming skaters", "you'll hear about this guy". I'd also wish he recorded more in real spots instead of skateparks.

I met Dan at the indoor Vans park in Orange maybe 5 years ago. He was verbally polite, but he might have tried to fuck my girlfriend if she was there. I probably wouldn't drink a beer with him or ask him to hang out after the sesh. Would definitely give him knuckles though if he did something sick.

Just bitching because Mitchie allegedly isn’t a “real pro” & that he tried to get his money back from the course and wasn’t able to because he felt like he didn’t learn anything so apparently that makes him a scammer. That’s as far as I made it. And not to be mean to people with speech & learning disabilities but I can’t fuckin understand what dowdy is even attempting to say anytime I’ve cringe watched any of his material.

Dowdy is insufferable. At least someone like Dan Corrigan has good skaters on his channel. Dowdy has nothing.
As for Mitchie, about 6 months ago I decided to try to actually improve my mediocre skating. There's one guy at my local who has been killing it lately and he's often sort of just running reps. I asked him what he was doing and he said Skate IQ videos. I did a bunch of free ones and they were great and maybe a month ago I paid for one of the programs and it has been excellent. It's basically a few months of 30 minutes a day fundamentals. It's been excellent and I've seen real improvement, especially with manuals. I could absolutely do most of it without actually paying for the program but it's really nice to have it all in one place and all mapped out, with excellent videos and tips. It's been truly motivating and I can say with confidence that my skating has improved more in the past month than in any month of my life.

I used to mildly enjoy his DIY videos a few years ago but I unsubbed when he started vlogging with Spencer nuzzi and being the most insufferable character on skate YouTube next to Ricky glaser. Now he’s apparently trying to do gifted hater style takedown videos in the most pathetic and flaccid way possible.
One of his videos popped up recently where he attempted to articulate the arguments surrounding the Indy cross (to no avail) and halfway into his recording he realizes that Indy had blocked him on IG and it was one of the funniest and most awkward things I’ve seen. He tried to act all cool about it but he was clearly dying inside.

He just complained about every local skateboarder the entire ride. We got to LOVE and I was attempting to hard flip the gap, while it was still nbd. I start throwing them, I think Dan was flailing kick flip, when he came back to the spot I was starting from and said “you mind if I try hardflip with you?”. I said “that’s kind of fucked, but it’s a free world”. Then he proceeded to stand in the background of every try even after the filmer and photographer told him to move.

He was aware from the time I picked him up that I was going to be trying hardflip. During the 2 hour drive he did say “I’ll skate the gap with you” if I’m not mistaken he said he wanted to try a varial flip. As soon as he asked to try hardflip it killed the vibe, 5-6 tries later the police came into the park anyway. In the grand scheme it was technically fair play as it was NBD but in bad etiquette to try while someone else is trying at the same sesh. I went back again for it after this sesh, without Dan obviously. Bailed one, slid out on ice in the bottom and hit my dome pretty hard. Needless to say Jimmy Carlin eventually got it.

Just take the negative and bend it into a positive. Properly run into him next time. Take a couple of good pushes as well. Just say it was a pebble that send you flying forward or something.
