i was going to list them but i couldn't really think of any influentual albums they've done. seems like you'd have to at least kicked off a shitty genre to make the list and i don't the the peppers were really imitated at all.
what about faith no more? i'd probably list them over the peppers

the red hot chili's arnt really imitated by anyone but i know plenty of newcomer bands that list them as an influence. they definately inspired a new generation of rock bands i guess. largely due to john frusciante being amazing.... the rest of the band is just meh. "blood sugar sex magic" is very good
-
when i revist the peppers i usually go pre "blood sugar sex magic". it was the ablum that kind of ruined the band for a lot of people i used to chill with.
it's a good ablum but was just kind of the end of an era for the peppers in the same way that "the black album" was the end of an era for metallica.
edit: this clip shows the chilli's when i thought they were still good right before BSSM dropped
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR6wEIrsrIk
-
yeah, "mother's milk" and "freaky styley" were both real good but i think BSSM really brought out the different styles they had. i feel like a douchebag talking about the chilis this seriously but it's true. anthony kiedis is just a douchebag who irons his hair
-
anything greg ginn & ian mackaye put their stamp on. d.i.y. touring, the music, everything.
-

agreed, it's one of those bands where context is everything. unless you were the right age when they had their moment, then you wouldn't really get them at all. but how's anyone going to deny the band that was in thrashin had an impact

edit* as broad as this topic maybe. changed music forever. forever is a long time
-
it is pretty sad that mariah carey has had more #1 hits than elvis or the beatles.

Shit, really? Other than the song she did with ODB I can't remember any of it.
-
Would you not agree that The Smiths/Morrissey have influenced music to a certain degree? Or are we going deeper than that?

I may have jumped the gun a bit, but it looks like she is going to surpass the Beatles shortly....

the same little girls that watch the sheckler show. anyone remember when MTV used to play music videos that were good? I am not clear why they still refer to themselves as "Music TeleVision".
-
I'm not really a fan of classical music, but there wouldn't be metal without Beethoven.

Same thing I've been wondering for years. They should change it to something related to faked reality television. Oh, I know...Shit TV. STV for short which sounds so close to STD which is what MTV is to your brain and our culture.

Certainly not the fucking Beatles, or Belle & Sebastian. Belle & Sebastian.....Belle & Sebastian......Belle & Sebastian. I cannot believe that poor shit was even mentioned in this thread. These fragile souls on Slap will never cease to amaze me.
-
hey, just because you don't like them doesn't mean they didn't influence other musicians
beatles inspired an entire genre, and still affect music today
but don't worry, i still love you.

Difference between a typo and continuous misuse of pronouns.
-
i dont like the beatles at all, but look how many people like them. there are so many bands that say the beatles are one of their influences, so how could say that they didnt change music?
good job on naming 3 safe answers.
are you 800 by the way? you act a lot like that account.
-

you really find talking about your weak ass grammar diss more interesting than a conversation about influential music which you can obviously contribute too? you're not funny enough to be the new asshole on the block, so just give it up and maybe join in on a converstation instead of just monopolizing them with your boring negative bullshit.
and yes, i know i missed a comma

The Beatles are the equivalent of a fucking boy band nowadays. I don't feel obliged to recognize them for being influential for a whole style of music that sucks dick. They did nothing new or different, but they were marketable. So yes, they did change music, for negative reasons. You may continue behaving like a teenage girl.

lil wayne. for getting people to love mindless fucking rap that - while creatively said - says nothing at all.
-
lil wayne rapped better when he was 16 and no one even cared. i cannot stand almost half of what he says anymore simply for the fact that cuts from the block is hot outshine anything in the past few years. promethazine is a hell of a drug i guess, good bye brain, hello zombie status.
-
Booker t & the mg's
Dr Dre
Johnny Cash
Wu-tang

Curtis Mayfield
Bob Dylan
-
JFA
Black Sabbath
Infest

Black Flag
and Minor Threat definatly defined hardcore.

-
in the near future Arcade Fire will be under alot of people's influences.
but as of now
Blondie
Bowie
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Pulp
also you're regular if you deny the Beatles as the masters of influence
-
to me i think lil wayne has the hottest shit out right now. i am really diggin how he is always puttin new mix tapes out and shit so we can stay up on his raps. he atleast definatly changed the rap world and put a dent in that shit forever
-
well pretty much any rapper is going ot have a lot of mixtapes, but just not as commercialized as Birdman Kisser.
Chamillionaire shits on lil wayne and he's actually positive and talks about real shit. check out The Morning News and The Evening News, evn tho they are old they were the shit last year
