Bummer High went out of business and he got kicked off Converse at the same time Pappalardo did. I think he's done. His part in A Visual Sound is still one of my favorites. I hope his music career is doing well for him.

This guy is still pretty much my favorite skater. I guess Bummer High going under wasn't his fault but the investor's who he brought in (according to SkateTalk)
I hope he's got a fat retirement plan worked out. His band rules too

That prevent this tragedy footage is too good. It wasn't "older guy milking it" type stuff.  If he gave just a tiny bit more of a shit he could be on any number of companies and continue to put out footage/make some money for years to come.  Kind of a shame.  Still left a ton of great documented skating behind regardless,  though.

Fowler is the shit and always will be.

He still has the Bummer High website, he uses it as a blog now though. He shows all the art he does and projects he's working/worked on.

Hasn't been updated since May though.....

my all time favorite.

Ethan Fowler Stereo's "A Visual Sound" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLuR9XZgesk#)

ethan fowler tincan folklore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4vvaIj2o1Q&feature=related#)

Nervous_Breakdown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhPbGAqfgWY#)

syd + ethan v.2.0 = the best match of a song to a skater ever, with Ethan v.3.0 + Electric Wizard close behind

MJ + yo la tengo or MJ + stereolab was also close...

I think it would be cool if Ethan got back on stereo. Although he doesn't fit stereo's image (as if stereo even has a direction of image nowadays for that matter), I think it would definitely make their team stand out again and bring back stereo's true roots.

You can actually see the transformation in his part, like towards the end it's already SF footage, tighter clothes and less tech tricks.

One of my all time favorites on the board, it's funny someone mentioned him influencing their kit, I think anytime I wear all black with shorts and high socks it's an unconscious homage to Ethan.

Remember that weird subsection of the Vans team that was Fowler, Julien, and some other dudes, maybe Wade Speyer?  I feel like the logo was a little pie-chart of sorts?  Those shoes were fucking awesome.

The story about Fowler drinking Jim Beam, and taking speed and acid in his Epicly Later'd just makes me like him more.

but its impossible to overlook nervous breakdown or his stereo days, so raw
makes me wonder if style comes better when young and hungry or established/redefined with age.

I jocked stereo Ethan and Foundation Ethan both super hard. I still wear all black a lot when I go skating which is a direct result of nervous breakdown and art bars. How ever I was kind of bummed on the whole Jim Jones psycho hippy thing. My distaste for hippies led to Ethan's number one spot in my G.O.A.T list being taken over by Tim Upson, Ethan won't be going any lower than 2 though.

Loved that story from an old interview (where?) where he was drunk at a party and got mad at Quim for being a hippy and tried to fight him. Terrified, Quim locks himself in the bathroom so Ethan tries to punch through the bathroom door to get to him.

Anton Newcombe is a poser badboy singer of a 60's tribute rock band called Brian Jonestown Massacre, don't bother listening to them. It's not really Anton gear, that's a diss to anyone that dresses like this.

Stereo-era Daher & Fowler footage I've never seen, plus a Cometbus sig?

Gnar'd, sir.

I'm one of those who feels like there's Stereo Ethan - then there's this other guy.: )

Actually, I like everything the dude's put out, but there was just something magic about those 2 stereo vids. He looked so light on the board back then - it looks like he just floats from trick to trick without any effort at all.

One of my favorites; definitely in my top 5. His Tincan part is also one of my top 5 favorite video parts of all time. Stereo era Ethan was pretty much unfuckwithable; best style ever.

my favorite skateboarder of all time. pretty sure after bummer high going under and converse dropping him he just left the skateboard world respectfully. as someone else mentioned, he never put out a bad part or did anything kooky. it’s better to leave with respect than to just stick around and milk skateboarding off of the legendary shit you did in the past as a lot of others have and still do. i saw him skate a bummer high demo about 10 years ago. he was still killing it and just looked so amazing on his board. he’s got that aspect that people talk about often with julien or alex olson where he’s one of those guys thats always been easy on the eyes and you love to watch in videos but, seeing them skate in person is completely unreal. it’s like you didn’t think their style could be any better and then you see it first hand it’s just something else. it was a real treat. i went outside to smoke a cigarette afterwards and saw him smoking by himself so i nervously went up and started a conversation. he was super mellow and easy to talk to even though i was maybe 14 years old and we needed up talking bullshit for a good 20 minutes or so. that completely solidified my respect for him and he’s been my favorite ever since. i’m not sure what he does for work but, i do know that he was super into doom metal/stoner rock and playing guitar a lot so i’m sure he’s still doing that and livin the easy life. god bless ethan fowler.

Next time I go out there I'll take some pictures, it's even more impressive in person. The ledge has to be about 4 feet high & the incline is maybe a 5-10° angle, which makes the b/s 50 absolutely fucked. It's at the same school as his 1st line (f/s noseblunt, kickflip nose manual, f/s flip) as the White Stripes song comes on in Art Bars.

As good as Koston? Let's not get carried away. Ethan did some great tricks over his career but I'm willing to guess he couldn't of done half of the tricks in any of Koston's parts.

Good style and trick selection- yes. As good as Koston- not even in the same league.

There was a duffel interview in thrasher a few months ago where he was asked quick questions about different pros he’d met..

His reply to Ethan Fowler was something like:

After he had dental surgery he stayed at my parents house for a week and they fed him and looked after him.. Years later I saw his band play and he was too cool to say hello

(Not verbatim but that’s the jist)

I don’t know what point I’m trying to make but it was funny as hell

Also his nervous breakdown part is one of the best ever

Now I'll agree that Ethan Fowler has great ability, never once did I imply that. I guess being a woman we see events sometimes in a different way, Maybe he had air's about himself maybe I was a judgemental bitch idk.

I’m a huge Ethan Fowler fan, but I can totally imagine him doing this.

I can see that. They did a Foundation That's Life reunion thing awhile back and they kept talking over Duffel, perhaps they have some resentment towards him or something.
