I doubt Koston would ever leave Girl, I'm sure he's been offered the ability to start his own brand multiple times over the years. Only way i could ever see him leaving was if he was setting up his own thing, but even if he did that it'd prolly be out of the crail camp. I think his ownership of Fourstar basically is gonna keep him there for ever.

big difference though between wanting a young upcoming Am to get off a dying brand and telling a legend to leave one of the most respected brands around. And Nike and Skate mental have a close relationship but they don't own skate mentel. Tons of companies in the industry have similar relationships like Baker and Emerica or Anti-Hero and Vans.

fongstarr and mcgouch, this post is kind of for your guys. nike doesnt use any influence or money to get skaters off of and onto any other companies. if scuba steve helps some dude get onto a deck company if the one theyre currently on now is falling apart, hes doing it as a favor as a friend and not on behalf of nike. scuba works in the industry and therefore has industry connections, he knows people to help other guys get onto companies. if this was 11 years ago would you say that es stole pj ladd from monkey sticks and element and put him on flip? hell no you wouldnt, you guys just talk shit on nike to pretend that you guys are all core and shit. bottom line is that none of you guys are 'core,' no matter how badly youd like to portray yourselves as such.

jamie thomas didnt say that skate mental owns nike, he said the people involved with skate mental also work with nike. did es own flip back when they had a portion of their riders being sponsored by them? no, but scuba helped them out when he was working with es. scuba is just a guy that helps his people out with the connections he has at his disposal, and he just so happens to work with nike at the moment.
nike does not own skate mental. the moment their west coast board sales flop, theyre done. its not like if they were failing nike would prop them up for no reason. i know people that work at nike, and they specifically said that the reason why they have no interest in getting into the skateboard deck industry is because its super fickle, is not bankable long term, and the margins are super low. with shoes and clothing, its the opposite where it costs pennies to make with a super high mark up. some of the best board companies have come and gone in mass numbers throughout the past 20 years, and during that time nikes were still cool and always selling.
they have shareholders to please, they dont get to make all of the decisions on their own. anything that isnt yielding the same return on investment like how the shoes and clothing do isnt going to be entertained. they want fast growth, not a creepingly slow growth and then a fizzle out of business (with monetary losses) like what most board companies to.
these are basic business concepts that you dont need a basic community college class to understand, its just common sense. sometimes slap throws common sense out of the window though, and its because a lot of you romanticize the skateboard industry and believe the marketing hype with 'being about the homies' and 'being true to skating' and all of this. but companies are made to make money, skateboard companies included, and the reason why most of them are skater owned is because share holders wouldnt dare buy into most board companies because theres simply no room for a decent return on their investment and too much risk in losing every penny you invested in a very short period of time.

you dont think it sucks that a full grown adult in his mid 30's is getting on a teenage level by entertaining their bullshit? if hes a father i hope hes not trying to raise his kids like that. im down for adults correcting teens when theyre wrong and setting them straight, but im not for adults dumbing themselves down and resorting to teenage bullshit like name calling and show boating and bragging about how cool they are and how much shit they have to someone that doesnt even really matter. koston should be at an untouchable level where he doesnt even need to respond to any negativity and yet he puts himself within arms reach by responding like a 12 year old. kind of taints the legacy a bit if you ask me.

Girl just like Flip with the Sorry team has already reached their peak with Yeah Right days...Pretty Sweet was not even close to how game changing the Yeah Right video and team was...Chocolate has basically stayed the same and now they have Jerry which is dope...The only good thing about Girl over the past years since Yeah Right was Guy's comeback...Even though Girl still has basically the same team members they are all just getting old which I guess is why I was so disappointed with Pretty Sweet...

Koston is definitely one of my favourite skaters of all time, it disappoints me to think of him as a scientologist
but the organisation is renowned for roping talented people like him in by claiming they are superior beings
with higher levels of metachlorians or whatever. the church does have a policy though where they enthuse
their members to not take any level of criticism or negative comments they call this "fair game" or
"never defend always attack". I think you could attribute a lot of Kostons behaviour online to these kind
of policies, but ultimately its sad that he has resorted to dealing with kids like this online. what fucking
difference does it make if he responds or not. Its like a king arguing with peasants, it doesnt make any sense
