Cool video. As always, Buddy and Rick come through with flying colors. BUT if the 18 is really the underdog and the outsider, why didn't they go to Palestine?
Is this whole video a tacit show of support for an oppressive occupying force? A country that the recipient of nearly $3 billion a year of U.S. largesse, which is primarily used to fund the military?
Granted, Muslims are generally a lot worse than Jews, so I'm not taking sides. Just posing a (probably stupid) question.
Fuck it. Go skate.

i fucking hate it that you can't bring up Israel or Palestine without mentioning the political conflict. Was hoping this thread would be about their experience, etc.

I remember having the Jew-lien Stranger graphic. So good. Even cut a star of David into the grip. Nose and tail were too big though...

What? It's true. Even the most moderate Islamic countries are insane. Most jews are secular, most muslims are not.

Honestly, I was thinking much the same as the OP but didn't want to bring it up here and bum everyone out.
One doesn't expect Anti Hero to get too political although having a nice ole' vacation in Israel in 2015 without any critical comment is akin to checking out skate spots in South Africa circa 1985.
I could be wrong - but there didn't look to be a whole lot of Arabs at any of those skateparks...
-
As they said in the video, they came to check out some of the parks Grindline built in Israel.
I could be wrong - but there didn't look to be a whole lot of Arabs at any of those skateparks...
would they look any different than the other skaters there?
-
Wonder when they'll be hitting up Iraq, Libya, Syria or Afghanistan? They could go to Skatistan...

I can't say for sure. There weren't that many shots of the locals and I was merely guessing by faces. You might know better than me, I think. Are there a lot of Arabs in the skateparks there? I realize that Israel does have a sizable Arab minority population.
I suppose I'm mainly just bumming out thinking about the million or so kids behind a wall in territories effectively controlled by Israel, who can't skate any of these parks. They probably aren't building DIY parks on their side either since concrete is a black market commodity in Gaza/WB.

i watched this last night and during the train scene was reminded of riding through El Paso and looking over the fence to Juarez. you'll see the mountains dotted w/ shacks and festooned w/ giant spanish words telling you 'god watches you' or something similarly christian.
meanwhile you're in america and the difference is incredible.
we know that religion flourishes in places of financial paucity. makes me wonder if Israel couldn't solve all this by breaking bread? would suicide bombing still be attractive if you had playstation? or spots and a board to rip them w/?
i know war and discord are more profitable but makes me think that if Israel redistributed some of that scrill the US laces them w/ that perhaps they could buy peace? maybe we could make Juarez habitable too?
but like, who wants their taxes going to people who didn't work for it? fuck dem niggaz, right?
yeah, until it's your sibling or child who dies then you'd wish all your money away to get them back.

israel is a warzone but its also a tourist destination. palestine and shit not so much

i assume you are being facetious. i dont think playstations or places to skate and boards are going to bring peace to a region that has been pretty much been at war over religious differences for as long as its been in existence.
-
yes and no, stevedave.
more thinking of solid structures, potable water, fresh vegetables but distractions and luxuries as well. all the palestineans i've talked to in the states are surprisingly not bitter. even that guy in cleveland who's always got anti-israel murals on his gas station is very personable and approachable and positive to talk w/ [i chopped it up w/ him circa 02-04].
money can solve lots of problems. not all but i believe it could go a long ways towards creating shiny happy people in gaza.
to their credit, i'd say a slight majority of american jews are classy secular folks. quite a few embody the greedy capitalist stereotype but most of them are rational humanistic people to me. so i believe that if they had the same access to amenities there that they do here then everyone could go to erank'as hillbomb holiday and be friends. it is my belief that barring ecocide and the end of humanity that some day the future denizens of planet earth will live a common sense socialism and have evolved to help each other and live harmoniously w/ nature. not indian 'we haven't figured out the wheel yet' zero carbon footprint but a hell of a lot better than we're doing today.
you know, that is if we can persist for another 1000 or so yrs w/out flooding the plains or nuking ourselves outta existence.
-
id say the palestinians in the states are not bitter BECAUSE they're in the states. talk to a palestinian who lives in Palestine and you'll most likely get a much different opinion. and i don't think it's because of the access to amenities and luxuries here. it's because they're free to do and say what they want and they are treated much better. israel is a crazy place. people there party pretty hard, because they know it could be full blown war at any given time, there's terrorists, suicide bombers. it's a hairy place to be. i was there in the late 80s, and that was a pretty peaceful time there. but the military presence was still heavy. i stayed at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, which was bombed in 1946. They have these roll down shutters for the windows in every room in case of air raids/bombings etc. it's pretty surreal. i guess after being there, I had a better understanding of how deep the hatred is between the the different groups of people is. and I guess that's why i dont think playstations and potable water are going to lessen that hatred.

What exactly is ignorant about this? Despite there not being a clear moral high ground on EITHER SIDE, what Israel does is effectively Apartheid and occupation.
Both sides commit atrocities, and have for 1500 years, but one side has money and international support.
There's no easy or pragmatic answer to any of this shit, and I don't and can't support one side over the other, but just wanted to point out in the original post that merely by traveling to Israel you're tacitly supporting them due to tourist dollars, etc.

Some of the above comments are asinine. I lived in the Middle East for close to a decade. Most Arabs and most Muslims are reasonable rationale people who just want to get on with life like the rest of us and I'm sure most Jews and most Israelis are the same. Its the minority radicals and ludicrous leadership of both sides that sends this whole thing into a shit show. Not to mention the way US/ Eu foreign policy ensures no meaningful progress is ever made.
While it would have been cool for Antihero to skate both sides of the wall, its also cool that it was an apolitical trip, no bullshit involved- thats what Israeli skaters deserve. Same for Palestinians.
Check out God Went Surfing With the Devil- Its political but doesn't take sides and emphasizes the common desire of both sides to want to get on with life and surf... (Actually directed by a skateboarder Alex Klein)

This puts some figures and perspective on the whole situation:

Really, blaming Palestinians is ridiculous.
I liked the video but claiming "I want to skate the Middle East for the next ten years" when you've only just visited Israel seems naive at best. Particularly when your country is responsible for terrorising and destabilising the whole region.

Hey Ginatran: maybe you could elucidate what is wrong with some people here having misgivings about Israel's treatment of Palestinians, instead of just repeating "Thatz ignorint!!!"

it's even more than political, it's about humans lives
if it was about human lives in the mortality sense- C.A.R., Ukraine, and Syria would be getting a lot more attention. If it was about human lives in the quality of life sense- China, North Korea and Brazil would be getting a lot more attention. Outsider interest in the Arab/ Israeli conflict comes from the need to find stories that fit a person's narrative. it is the perfect learning tool for someone to find their political stance and values . its the perfect representation multiple warring schools of thought. which makes it ripe for politics.
also the editing was a little tough to get through but watching them all rip that bank back to back to back was fucking awesome
