Polar Graphic: No comply
« on: May 16, 2019, 09:29:49 PM »
Hey fam, I'm writing an analysis of skateboard board graphics for a class, and am curious to know if anyone has insight into the Polar No Comply graphic???
Any art history nerds out here see similarities between the graphics and other art? Any idea of the inspiration behind this?

Let me know anything and everything about this!
Danke

This graphic always reminded me of Matisse, specifically "Blue Nude II" and "Dance (1)".

vibe-wise it always makes me think of the "whimsy" in these ron allen & neil blender graphics

In general, go pick up sean cliver's book "Disposable". It's the history of skate graphics. Won't have Polar in it, but basically every other brand before say 2014ish

Get Feedback Ted to post a story on this. He has some comments about Polar graphics and he really knows his art.

Can anyone give me a concise history of who feedback ted is? I followed him on instagram for a week after I read a previous Polar/FBT thread and just thought he was a tit. Trying to make a cunt out of folk who dare to post footage!
Polar are fucking awesome so who the fuck is feedback ted?

People send him footage and he’s pretty clear that the point of his account is to critique and make fun of skatepark footage so like that’s the point of his account.

He’s also done a bunch of interviews about the account that you could just like google to understand who he is.

He's a certain type of person who talks about skateboarding in a certain type of way. People who are bugged by that way of talking about things in general will only see the schtick (which it partly is) and probably not like it. Pretty much just like Weckingball except instead of a "muscle bro" schtick it's an "intellectual socialite" schtick.
At the end of the day, both of them are just people making keener observations than most about skateboarding, based on deep knowledge and appreciation.
Both of them annoy me at times, usually when they're saying something I disagree with. The rest of the time, they are doing the job that everyone says they wish Crob was doing.

edit* gaseous, I didn't listen to that podcast, felt pretty sure I would hate it, so I'm not trying to disagree with your take on it.

Knowing his proper name was a help. Read some interviews and get it/him a bit better now thanks.

Listen to a single episode of that horrible Vent City podcast he's on and you'll know more than you ever wanted, including his follower count and a sample of  his near total lack of self awareness.

Looked them up Gaseous but didn't have time to listen. Not sure I'll ever find the time.  ;)

This makes a lot of sense. I guess I'm not keen on that schtick, but knowing a bit more about him I suppose it's a bit clearer now.
Still not sure where the beef with Polar comes from though. I can only see good things there!
