i feel like surfers are kinda like snowboarders in this era. i cant really relate to it at all. id be willing to try it out it looks fun its just completely not my kind of people. you have to have MAD money to live by the beach and shit. like these guys have all the wetsuits and gear , balling ass SUVs, shit costs GRANDS dude. It would be cool but its like really white washed to me idk if i am out of touch on that or not.

neither snowboarding or surfing need to be crazy expensive. more expensive than skating? sure, but skating is a pretty cheap hobby in the grand scheme for working adults. both those hobbies suffer from influencer upsell. do you NEED the $80 mittens or $500 wetsuit? probably not. they are hella white-washed from the outside looking in tho.

the terms "ski/surf bum" exist for a reason, you just gotta make more shit shake

You need at least 45 bones (on a weekday) for a lift ticket at a decent place... and it can cost upwards of $100 for some days... most skateparks/the streets are free. The only reason I snowboard is because I work at a ski resort. Not nearly as fun as skating but I get $3 lift tickets... BUT yeah, you don't need to be rich to snowboard. You can probably get a board, bindings, and boots for under $300 if you go the used route. If you can cough up enough money for a season pass you can save in the long run and do it whenever you have the time too. Skating is WAAAAAAY cheaper though.

I've also heard from some people that have been in the whole skiing/snowboarding scene for a minute that a ton of the kids that are ski bums are trust-fund hippies basically. I know that's not everyone, but a lot of those kids have rich families that hook them up so they can at least get out there, get their equipment, get some room and board going, and they just get part-time jobs at a resort basically.

God I wish I could skate right now lol. I hate snow sometimes

In SoCal it’s incredibly easy to get a used board for 50-100 bucks and same for a wet suit for 50. Here in Maryland it’s not so easy but even with a custom shaped board I still have all the gear I need for under 1500 and I’ve had the same wet suit and board for the last 3 years.

was going to say, the rate skaters go through shoes and decks would be way more expensive than a second hand wetsuit and board that will last years.
