One time back in I think 2009 or 2010 my cousin invit d me to this dlx demo at skate lab (pretty sure I saw this video of it too) and at the end when they were throwing gear away I went up to the real team and asked if they had a board I could buy from them ( because I was riding this crappy yellow shuv it blank with the large anti hero eagle sticker on it and I just felt so fake ) and busenitz was like no we don’t have boards but here’s mine and he just told me give me the trucks and wheels back and it’s yours . I pulled up into skate lab and asked them to come take off the trucks and gave him his trucks and wheels back which looked super sick and he let me keep the deck, thinking back I should have ridden it but I’m not the kind of person that steps on other peoples boards but needless to say that deck he gave me , which was a jt aultz board was quite possible one of it not the he best most pro board like deck I’ve skated , I don’t know the wheel baseball that it was between an 8.18 and an 8.25 because I had thunder 147’s on it. Also one time I was getting home from work and I saw jerry hsu skating this wired ledge spot that is one of Lacey bakers( not leo’s) thumbnail in a thrasher video, I yelled jerry hsu and he was like hey hold up and I pulled over and he ran over and gave me this Marc Johnson circus liquor deck and I hated it at first because it had a huge nose and a small tail but after I started getting used to it it was the most buttery decks ever and I’ve been trying to find the shape if anyone can help , it was like an 8.25 to like an 8.3 but I’m not familiar with Craig tap shapes

Josh Friedberg was in my city filming Fingers Of Fury and stopped by the skatepark I worked at. He borrowed my board and went for a little cruise in some Air Max Plus and did a nice little nosegrab bluntslide over a mini hip.

This is a true story.

This feels dirty. Totally violating one of THE biggest unwritten rules - thou shall not step on another’s sled.

Did you grow up in a movie?

i kinda hate it when people tell me to try their deck. i just feel like i'll fall off or something because i'm not used to it. and how are you really meant to get a feel for anything when you're only skating it for like 2 minutes anyway?
You’re a Florida native, aren’t you?

The enjoi team was in Miami filming for bag of suck. My board broke at the previous spot so Caswell let me ride his for a bit. Then he asked me if I wanted to see a California brown snake. I said sure so he took me behind a bush and showed me a massive turd he'd just shit out. Then he sold me a board for $20. My friend also asked Jerry Hsu if he was Daniel Shimizu.

Caswell asking a stranger to check out his massive turd is the most Caswell thing to have ever Caswell-ed. At least he didn't flash you his wang.

Skated a few people's boards before they went pro. However, it is weird to think of riding someone else's board at this age. Like, there is something sacred about my board and someone else's board.

Drake Jones gave me his old decks a few times when I was a kid. Best guy.
I once bought a New Deal complete with either Silver or Destructo trucks from Serge at Pier 7 for $30. The hangers disintegrated in like a month.
Another time a friend wanted to buy some trucks at the Pier, but no one had a tool to take them off. Whoever it was insisted on breaking the board before the sale, rather than just giving it away. Something about not wanting the perceived price floor on product to get too low. Like something out of The Wire.

Yeah I’m not saying “do a 18 hour scientific analysis of it”, I’m saying maybe you just happened to jump on it as it kicked away from them, or stand on it for 2 seconds for whatever random reason, and maybe you thought “hey this thing is tiny!” or “wow, loose trucks”.

F3 + "Heath" = 0 results.

Bummer. Was hoping for some more material to the SLAP coffee table book of weird Heath stories.

I never stepped on a pro's board, I'm shy and I would die of embarrassment. When I see a pro skateboarding out in the wild I ignore them and let them have their privacy..., I feel like I'm doing them a favor by not saying hi. When Brent Atchley used to go to my workplace to grab food I immediately would go hide in the back.

A very kind man once gifted me a board that was used by Dane Brady, it was the most special gift because I was very broke at the time and couldn't afford a new board and I am a fan of Dane's skating. That board was indestructible and lasted forever, best gift ever.

I bought half a dozen decks from Deathwish that were meant for Jamie Foy but then he changed to his twin tail shape that he rides now, and didn’t need them anymore. Kinda neat to have Jamie’s shape and various pros and team graphics on them instead of the few releases they planned to sell to the masses.

Black Label board from Shawn Martin, and a Tragic Comic from Rickoo...
