Heath was pro 15+ years, had good sponsors, often live very cheap or free. In articles about the Emerica mansion they mentioned he also owned vending machines, didn't party, had a bunch of odd jobs, and lived off frozen pizza. I don't think they paid rent so he's likely able to save a substantial portion of his money. If he saved 80% of 40k/year that's $480K without any interest included. If he invested half of that in various low risk options it's completely plausible he retired with millions as in "$2M".
Damn that’s impressive. Id never heard the details. That kind of makes the shared part he did in The End funnier

What about VOV?

I think he still gets residuals and photo incentive for the Anti Hero tattoo.

You know who else probably is? Chad Muska.

Oh duh and Elissa Steamer. She used her THPS money to buy some apartment buildings and she lives on that. I think she does projects for extra income but she’s doesn’t have to.

There needs to be some distinction here between Pro's that retired after starting there own companies and Pro's that simply just skated and then retired..

I think unfortunately Steve Cab and maybe Janoski are the only two in that catagory and it's because Vans/Nike more or less created entire brands out of them, or their names at least

Mu$ka should definitely be a made man off his contributions to skating alone, but has he not started a company or two??

Having a (well selling) shoe on adidas for 15 years and more is a lof of cash + he keeps it lowkey.

Ah I guess he did found Supra.

So that leaves Heath, Elissa and maybe Janoski, since he seems retired.

Cab has never retired so he’s out.

At 2:09 the shermanator talks about going from rich to broke. I rewatched this thinking it would give me a laugh, but it more just pissed me off how out of touch and entitled some people are.

Then I watched the J Cassanova rap video and got my laugh though

Drunkenly firing a gun in a residential neighborhood and being so fucked up you have no recollection on if you shot in the direction of someone's home is pretty entitled, or maybe it's really sick

That's fucking sick if Elissa has it like that. Is she not  involved in Doom Sayers or Gnar Hunters or something like that though? The THPS deal was a huge break for so many Pro's at that time.

I guess the real question is... Has anyone ever successfully retired from just skateboarding without either starting their own company, working outside of skating or by seling the rights to their name to a corporation a la THPS / Janoski / Cab? Has anyone or will anyone ever have just have 'skateboarder' as their only job in life? Might be a very small list.

Probably no, because as we’ve established even Heath took odds jobs here and there. Elissa started Gnarhunters but she’s said that she was living off her apartment income several times over the years so Gnarhunters wasn’t something she really had to do. Not taking some corporate money somewhere probably eliminates anyone else.
