Maybe check out Adidas Terrex. I've got a pair of Terrex AX3, which I like very much. The ones I have are not boots, and are not waterproof, though. But really comfortable, good sole, grippy in mud.

Bump:

My vasques are toast after 5 years. Erikkson model was the absolute best boot daily/hiking/working in dirt boot I've owned. They no longer make the model and I'm not sure what to get next.

Can't do merril or keen because the arches are too. I've got a brand new pair of Merril Moab I can't wear due to the arches. Honestly, if they had a bit more support, hiking in my XtraTuffs would be ideal

Have you tried swapping insoles for a aftermarket cork? I use a brand called Sole for that same reason. Ironically now too, my dry season hiking shoe is the danner 600 but the enduroweave one. I absolutely love it.

no, I actually hadn't thought of that. can you tell me more about how to choose insoles? I've thought about it for skate shoes, but have held off on spending $50-60 on something I'm not so sure about

i have some fancy italian zamberlan i found on clearance. they good, very comfortable after long days and quite waterproof. pretty similar to the meindl above. previously had some asolo that looked sick and were extremely waterproof but were quite tippy for my bad ankles. i left them on the roof of my car and they exited my life.

When I needed boots for wearing in the forest and during winter I did a lot of research and ended up with Lundhags. https://www.lundhags.com/en/footwear/men/shell-boots/park/?code=7045952446875

The lower half of the shoe is rubber and the shaft is leather, so they should be more waterproof and durable than Goretex or other layers like that which some people say always start leaking, but also breathable due to the single layer leather. Basically super simple costruction and looks, although a bit clunky looking compared to just regular leather boots. Handmade and repairable as well so should last a lifetime and less expensive (in Europe at least) than something like Red Wings.

Surprisingly comfortable too, compared to Wolverine 1000 miles for instance, happily wear them every day. Only minus to me is they turned out to be pretty cold in the snow due to the construction, feel more warm in GTX trail shoes. They do have separate felt lined models for that though.
take what small comfort there may be left
seize what you love and damn all the rest

I would suggest going to your local outfitter and having them calculate the your needs. There are cheaper options out there besides cork insoles, I just happen to like them best after playing round with Super Feet, Dr. Sholls, and some other more affordable options. Plus it's always good to hook up your local outfitter, the advice is worth the cost you may save online.
The break in time was about 30 miles in the summer, but I believe there are ways of preheating them if you don't have access to hot weather.

a pair of these just popped on Craigslist. Brand-new, perfect fit $200. pretty stoked to have gotten them this morning. I probably wouldn't have looked if I didn't remember this post. thanks
