917 might as well be a Nike ad (nothing against either, but I'm sure it doesn't cost Nike much to keep 917 afloat). People keep saying all nik stain does is skate fast and do back smiths. This is true. They probably have a friend in their hometown who can do back smiths real fast too. However, their friend lacks "marketability." Everyone has said on here in 2012 they wish somebody would hook him up, well now they did. C'mon, Russian + Hockey as the brand name... sorry home town hero Tommy who skates just as fast isn't pro but that's the name of the game. Flow dudes remain flow for having acne and trivial shit.
Also Nik Stain: what a name! How can somebody with a 'C' even compete.
I don't think Nike pays to keep any brand afloat. What they do though is probably pay Alex a sizable salary and pay for travel and incentives for guys who are either fully on Nike like Cyrus and Hugo or on a high-level of flow/don't have a contract like Max Palmer. Similar relationships with brands like Numbers and Skate Mental. This drastically reduces the overhead costs of these companies as they don't need to pay for a lot of travel and filming to get content, but they would do the same for guys on long-time established brands like Ishod, GT, Justin Brock, Malto, Raven, etc. I'm sure Cons does the same for all their Quasi riders, or Adidas relationship with Palace before it fully blew up.
