It sucks that Shrunk closed, but I wouldn't call it a shame. Justin had been working another full time job for a while. And Lorenzo was basically running it before he moved to New York. It probably could've carried on, but I got the feeling that it was a lot of work for Justin with minimal return. Running a skate shop is tough and Shrunk was bare bones on clothing and shoes so they were missing out on goods with a solid margin. Plus there are too many shops here.

There’s a chance we may be moving to Portland from Tulsa. Any affordable safe/ family neighborhoods or suburbs to be pointed in the right direction?

Shot in the dark. Any leads on cnc mill or aerospace work would be appreciated as well.

Neighborhoods, there's a lot to get into. But generally my advice for new folks is to live close to a strip of shops and restaurants that you can walk to (if that's important to you). Kenton, St Johns, Mississippi, Alberta, Hollywood, Belmont, Hawthorne, NW 23rd Ave, Multnomah Village, etc.. Barring that, living near a Max train station is really helpful for getting around. But it's also a really great biking city.
I think the music scene is great. Lots of tours come through, but there are local bands playing all the time. Venues like Turn, Turn, Turn; Lollipop Shoppe; Swan Dive; No Fun Bar; and many more host local shows all week. This site is run by the local weekly paper and covers a lot of things to do. https://everout.com/portland/
Tons of hiking nearby- Forest Park, more trails than I can list up through the gorge. The beach is a little over an hour away if you want to surf. Great biking infrastructure with some trails in the city if you like some jumping and mountain bike trails nearby.
Great food scene. https://bridgetownbites.com and https://pdx.eater.com both cover it pretty well.
Good skate scene too.

Cons always includes the weather. It's grey and wet in the winter. I try to get away to sunshine a couple times during the winter months and that helps me.
There's a pretty large homeless population here. The city officials have yet to put in place an effective strategy to get people into housing and help for whatever else they are dealing with. You will encounter it around the city. Camps are cleared constantly so these folks are constantly pushed around the city. We got a new city council this year and a new mayor who ran on a platform of addressing homelessness, but I have yet to see much headway, and that sucks. Car break ins do happen, but don't leave stuff visible in your car and you should be ok.
Freeway traffic sucks. Our freeways are stuck in the 1970s. So if you need to travel over a bridge, through a tunnel, or on a super curvy part of the interstate around rush hour, be ready for some gridlock.

I think this that I posted last year is still pretty relevant. Not much has been done to help homeless folks here since then.

You mentioned family friendly neighborhoods so I assume you have kids. Schools should be a big consideration for you. Portland Public Schools has a crazy budget shortfall. They're talking about closing some schools to help with that. My kid is grown, so I'm not too informed on the details.
Affordable is tough. The whole metro area is a bit on the pricey side.
Not too sure on aerospace, but there is a pretty big Boeing division here.

Not strictly true. A lot is being done. Lots of people are getting housed but more people are still hitting the streets so the problem does not look much better on the ground, wait lists are longer and more people are vulnerable due to rising costs of rent and living. I don't think the general public really gets to see how much work is actually getting done with the limited resources there are. It could get worse soon though with multiple shelters in the process of closing. Doesn't help that the Feds are opposed to proven models such as 'Housing First.'

Yeah, that needed more words. The problem with quoting myself and having internal thoughts.
I meant that in the context of Mayor Wilson's plan to get everyone housed, or what ever his lofty campaign claim was. That clearly didn't happen. I was optimistic in the past (and old post) that the mayor might come through. And the city council hasn't helped as much I hoped either.

Definitely there is work being done to help homeless folks still. But that big fix never came through. Certainly doesn't help that federal money is drying up. If you're who I think you are, I know that you're much more connected to on the ground stuff than I.
