Everything besides Hilti is junk.  Their gear weighs a ton, but at least it doesn’t feel cheap or jam up/spin out on you all the time.  Costs a fucking fortune but luckily my work supplies all my tools.  With that said, if I’m buying it myself I’m totally buying Certified or whatever cheap ass store brand.
[close]
Hilti is awesome. I've never met anyone who actually owns em though, always company tools. I tried one of their impact drivers once and she was a beefy puppy
[close]

I used to sell adhesive packaging to Hilti and, as I normally do, I look on websites to learn about the companies I deal with. Their HQ in Lichtenstein might be the most picturesque place to work in Europe…

[close]
That's beautiful. looks like they got some loading bay dock ripe for a session

I work as a contractor software engineer for Hilti and I will probably be going to their HQ in the future (week-long planning sessions). When we are on webcam calls, you can see that their office workers have a 360 view of the mountains, really nice. It is also very hard to get promoted to a position in their HQ and unfortunately they work insane hours (and they actually work during those hours, not just padding their hours).

Milwaukee for battery operated tools. Hilti or DeWalt for other stuff. Day to day I use Milwaukee and DeWalt the most.

All my power tools are different colors... but the Dewalt cordless stuff I use at work all the time is fucking tough. They get used hard and still keep going. Good batteries too.

I also have to admit that a lot of Ryobi stuff is solid for home diy projects. I have a cordless circular saw, drill, and orbital sander (corded) from them. The orbital sander got a ton of use and is still killing it. I hate the table saw though... stupid design with the miter slots, falls out of tune often. I need to upgrade

My Milwaukee drill and impact driver are dope... the m12 series. Super light and reliable for smaller things.

My Bosch router is the shit... variable speed and simple/easy depth adjustment. Good handles and weight to it.

I also have a craftsman miter saw that I've been using for the last 3 months. Can't complain yet. I like the new light lines miter saws use now instead of the older lazers. More accurate. I'm slightly worried though because people keep saying craftsman went to shit, but they still have a good warranty on their stuff

This reminds me of a funny sub contractor my company sometimes hires who spray paints all his gear orange.  But not just a quick spray, a full ass coat all over the shit.

Hiltis sick, if you buy retail you’re paying for the after sales support. You can break your shit and call up and a guy comes out in a hilti van and swaps the tool while they fix yours. I got a hilti vac and some demo hammers

Festool is very cool too, well designed stuff

I rate the Bosch 4 inch and 4.5 inch grinders cause they got a nice slim body to hold. But a lot of sites want a dead man switch now so use a makita 4.5 inch. Haven’t seen anyone put a deadman switch on a 4 inch which sucks

I used to love Dewalt, but all their equipment feels like it's gone down in quality over the last 15 years.  My buddy has broken two drills on the job in the same month as well for what it's worth.

Okay, for tradesmen in the US, how many power tools from Harbor Freight do you own? Be honest.
None. I work in entertainment, but my union card still says "journeyman" on it. I'm always buying new tools, equipment, storage, etc. that aren't on my required tool list to make my life(and job) easier. I usually spring for the more expensive stuff than the cheap stuff. I have a bunch of Dewalt stuff for my work power tools

I also have some Ryobi stuff for around my apartment/skating related. Their work lights are great; I keep one accessible inside in case of power outages, and another inside my car in case of emergencies. The leaf blower works well enough for my neighborhood skatepark bowl. The drill is fine for setting up boards. My favorite tool of theirs though is the handheld vacuum. I've used it for anything from crumbs to broken glass, and also cleaning out my car

Fun Fact: The same holding company owns Ryobi and Milwaukee Tool. Probably a lot of crossover with where they make their equipment.

Ryobi is mid tier consumer grade, and has an obvious drop in quality versus Milwaukee. There a reason for the price difference. My roomie has a Ryobi drill and it feels like a cheap toy compared to my M18 Fuel impact driver.

Also curious as to what hammers ppl like? I stick to Estwing.

I agree that Milwaukee has some serious stuff but they also sell a lot of China made equipment in Home Depot. I just don’t trust that anything sold at Home Depot is of any quality. Home Depot puts tremendous pressure on vendors to lower prices. I work with customers who work with Home Depot and in certain categories HD sells product at 6X their cost.

Don't bother with Dremel knock off, they are shite. Some one stole the flashlight, spare battery and charger for my Bosch drill at work. Bought a new charger but haven't found a spare battery yet. Not that I pay for any tools.

I have mostly yellow and black because my friends dad worked for dewalt and hooked me up when I started carpentry 11 years ago, I just have a pile of batteries and they've lasted a long time except some of the drills and routers.  my fav brand is Festool although I only have a track saw and sander/dust extractor.

festool is great, but the price tag means you dont see it as often in the trades. festools for old rich guys who want to build their own coffin

SawStop table saw. It's designed and made well, the safety features are easy to use, and the only drawbacks are not being able to use thin-kerf blades and the zero-clearance inserts are proprietary.

The complete SawStop lineup is at the very top of my list for when I win the lottery.

I was amazed by how much better an actual Dremel worked and felt than my shitty Amazon/HF knockoff "cutting wheel" tool. Seriously worth $50 extra if you plan on using it more than once.

Just be careful with the cut off wheels, they wear down super quick and I don't trust them. I've got a Bosch angle grinder that I use for most stuff

Always wear eye protection with those cut off wheels - when they explode they can be dangerous.

I’ve got a real classic Dremel which is great but I also have a Harbor Freight Oscillating Tool (the thing that wiggles back and forth) that’s lasted for several big projects and was like $60 LESS than the real Dremel version.

So you prefer the $30 estwing over the $100 stiletto?

I stick to estwing because they're made in USA while still being affordable, and the nature of my work means I go through a hammer once every couple of years

Mostly remodel carpenter . Makita cordlesseses because I’m not hauling multiple batteries/chargers. 36v circular saw kinda did it for me - first cordless I had any time with that was a direct replacement for corded. Sub compact drill and impact “senorita pistols” are the shizz. General contractor I do a lot of work for runs a lot of Milwaukee. Most of it’s pretty good. Didn’t care for the 18v miter saw. Under powered and running a cord for something that’s more or less stationary isn’t that big a deal.  Ryobi stuff used to be really good for the money, way back when it was blue.

Honestly, the whole cordless thing is getting pretty out of hand - coffee makers, microwaves, bicycles- cringey lifestyle brand bullshit.

I like Vaughan hammers and prefer hick’ry handles. Titanium feels slippery to me.

Porter-Cable made good stuff not too long ago, most notably circular saws and routers. I have the 347 circular saw with mag base. Made in USA and retailed for a little over a hundred. It's not as accurate as my late grandfather's Porter-Cable saw from the 1940s but much lighter.

I also have a classic Makita 6095d (metal chuck version) with ni-cad battery that can still hold a charge after a year in storage.

I use Milwaukee for all my cordless tools, Dewalt and Bosch (if on sale) for all my corded fellers. Does anyone have a Bosch Mitre saw? I've been eyeing it recently and I'm wondering if it's worth it. where my fellow tradies at

Makita 100 percent. I noticed electricians go crazy over Milwaukee and drywall dudes love DeWalt

They stole my estwing hammer and now I can't find another one. It seems home Depot doesn't carry them anymore. At least not in my area.

Milwaukee (fuel) is unmatched for plumbing/hvac imo. Copper cutters, hackzall, super hawg, propress, transfer pump, the list goes on. Of course i’ve had some stinkers but for company tools that we’ll replace on the next project they suit us just fine. I take better care of my personal Milwaukee stuff, going 4 years on a pretty big set. I do opt for the compact ridgid propress gun. Used the milwaukee MX coring rig for a 3” hole adding a handwash sink in a restaurant and it worked the balls.

Full disclosure, Milwaukee R&D hits me up sometimes for insight when theyre making new tools and safety stuff. Theyll come to my site and chat with the crew and hook us up with swag but its another check in my list

Haven't tried anything since they changed names, but I've used an older hitachi brad nailer and it was way better than the new makita one at my work
