My favorite part:
Quote
The city spent $4,300 to install 67 anti-skateboarding pegs inside the granite fountain Nov. 1, but three days later they had all been removed. The city tried to reinstall them but many were removed again before the job was even completed.

...also stoked on Armin's statement at the end. Good that they got a skater who can speak eloquently for the ender.

I would be willing to bet the kid is a longboarder.

the fact that they were taking out the skatestoppers while they were still putting them in makes me happy

comments are semi entertaining.....

"Skateboarders. Didn't like them when I was a teenager in the 90s, don't like them now. At least they're starting to wear normal size pants again (anyone else remember the GIANT skateboarder pants craze of the mid to late 90s?)."

"Pedestrians can't win. If we aren't jumping out of the way of runners and bicyclists on sidewalks, we have to contend with skateboards flying through the air after their owners lose control of them. Calling skateboarding "artistic expression" and "free speech" is stupid beyond belief, given the damage that it does and the injury that it can and has inflicted on people just passing by. Self centered behavior to the extreme"

.....i guess i can't argue with that

and armin is most definitely not a long boarder, that dude is a shredder to the fullest
look who's eating dinner at 6 o'clock

By that logic, grown men shouldn't be playing sports and they should have a "real" job like sitting in a fucking cubicle pushing a button

I crack up whenever I see grown men skateboarding. It's incongruous to see a guy in his mid 20's, with a beard, riding a skateboard with the wallet chain hanging down. It is time to move on with your lives, men. It's as bad as the adults riding those little BMX bikes. They look like Shriners driving around in parades in the little cars. Very cartoonish.

For some reason reading those comments on that page make me want to go skate. That wallet chain comment was hilarious. :D
Another amusing one

Careful where you have your board meetings, the rail grinds are really starting to piss the city off.

“We respect the desire of skateboarders to enjoy our city but not when their stunts harm or destroy the public’s property,” said Menino spokeswoman Dot Joyce. As a tax paying citizen, on my own liberty, and not harming others in the process, I would like to be understood when I say that I am putting a City's architecture to use in more than one way. A true artist/engineer/architect that planned these great obstacles should be happy that we appreciate their work on more than just the level of "Oh, what a lovely fountain to stare blankly at."

Just one more instance of a form of government, lower level yes, but still, not wanting to tackle bigger problems.
Skateboarding is easy, I've played Skate 3 dude!

"Even some skaters said their comrades need to be more careful where they hold their rail sessions."

Ummm..... yeah.

"skaters have damaged a decorative fountain outside the 140-year-old Trinity Church."

This is misleading.  The church may be 140 years old, but there's absolutely no way in hell the fountain is that old.  Look at pics of it on google.  You don't need to be an architecture buff to realize that.

If you're a pedestrian with a shred of situational awareness while doing your business, skateboarding as an activity is safer than bikers, runners, long boarders, etc. due to the inherent amount of noise it generates.  Close your eyes and I'm sure you could visualize the sound of an oncoming skateboarder from memory easily while those other activities are otherwise silent and would be too late before you have one their participants literally on top of you.  Ignorance is bliss and these ignorant people chastising skateboarders are the most ignorant of all.

i really love this attitude.  i guess growing up means sitting on your ass getting fat as fuck while watching other grown adults play with balls.  but we're pathetic because we still actually participate in an athletic activity that we happened to love as kids.  great logic.

America is kinda fucked. There are too many adults who think you need to stop having fun when you grow up--and it is these idiots who become bitter assholes who make life hard for the rest of us normal people who enjoy some form of recreation.

i love skateboarding.
