tight high tops
« on: June 06, 2017, 03:54:32 AM »
I was given this pair of hightops (its a cons shoe, blazer like, i dont know the model, has the star and arrow logo thingy)
that are kinda thight around the ankle (the top)
never really skated hightops before, had a couple of skate high's, but those are super supple,
had the oldschool-mids, but cut those off.

I also had the Gilbert Stage 4 which were kinda stiff but due to the low-cut back of the ankle very spacious.

so I was wondering, do people make incisions in high tops to provide free(er) ankle movement?
anyone on here tried and has tips?

or am i being impatient and does the shoe need some time to get suplle

just roll the heel collar of the shoe around and bend it a bit to get flexible

I wouldn't suggest cutting it

What I did with my sk8-hi's (which were quite stiff) was just tie them like three holes down kinda tight so they stayed on, but the ankle was free to move.

To quote a very popular and beloved SKATE SHOES brand, "just do it". I figure that if you don't cut beyond the stitching, you'll be fine. Just don't try it with a pair you're not ok with ruining, visually and otherwise. I'd really really like to see the results if you cut it.

I've been a PF Flyer advocate on the boards for ages and still back them and highly suggest them to anyone who likes skating in regular high top converse. They're comfortable as hell, grippy right out of the box, and don't blow out quickly.

Aren't they a more comfortable alternative to Chucks as well?

Yup! The sole is comfortable and doesn't feel like the stock sole that converse and regular vans authentics have.

I don't know how much the STATE OF THE ART of The Posture-Foundation's Magic Wedge (tm) shoes have changed since 2015, but here's a nice review of PF Flyers by concerned_parent. It does sound appealing, especially for the price he copped them for.
