TIL: MOB Grip has different grit ratings...
« on: May 03, 2019, 03:13:49 PM »
The lower the number = more coarse
The higher the number = less coarse

MOB M-80
------------
Regular MOB

The M-80 in this case felt just a tad rougher than the regular

That was my understanding as well but these two felt really close. I'm just going off what the buyer at my local shop passed on to me; this is a recent change, last 4-5 months or so.

I never knew and don't have other sheets to compare, hell maybe these are the only numbers for each and that's that.

But between the two, the m80 felt finer and regs more chunky and the regs of mob I'm rising now doesn't feel as rough as a previous setup.

i don't know what the fuck any of you are on about, m80 compared to standard mob feels in no way rougher, i have a sheet of each in my hands.

i switched over to m80 because of its lesser grip, you cant be less grippy but have more grit that just doesnt line up

Yeah only way that's true is if it only relates to each specific type. I did just check my stock and it all has different numbers, but seriously fuck this shit I hope it's not true.

Is it a 1-10 scale?

It would have to apply to each type as M-80 feels different (finer) compared to regular mob (chunky) and even the sheets feel different (regs mob is always stiffer) but since this is new, who knows what they've changed.

But if an M-80 (1) is the roughest M-80 that would make a regular MOB at the far end of the scale (towards 9/10)?I've not skate each I have on hand to compare but the 6 regs mob has me locked in fucking place in a way that nomatterwtf number my last few M-80s were could match.

Seems a like a really weird thing to fuck with/apply; must be a manufacturing related concern.

I had like a 1, 8, 5, and 4, and my m-80 had a 6. Surely one of them is over 6 months old if not a year or more.

I refuse to believe this is true, it's too dumb.

The number is which assembly line it was made on so if theres a fuckup the know they all the 2’s are fucked.  Its a 1-6 scale but they mean nothing it just fucks with your head.

I anyways assumed the M80 was intentionally supposed to be more similar to Jessup.

Regular Mob - just remember to shoot a hole in your deck with your illegally modified unlicensed firearm.

4-5 months ago is right around the time that Mob started to be terrible.  I skated regular Mob and M-80 for the last 5-6 years but the last few months something changed with the manufacturing.  The paper is now brittle and hard and barely conforms to the shape of a deck when you lay it down.

Switched back to Jessup

Still got half a roll of the old (2-3 years ) MOB and I can confirm there is a difference between the sheets on the roll and recent single sheets I got.

I just switched from Jessup to Mob on my last board because I came to terms with the fact that I ride boards for so long that Jessup becomes almost worthless by the time I'm done with the deck.

I got M-80 because they said it had a finer grit and was more similar to Jessup. It was too grippy for me upon first throw down but with the help of some skatepark dust it quickly got right where I like it and it has stayed at that perfect level of grip.
