If skateboarding wasn’t a hobby for you, what would you be doing?

Surfing- but really it falls into the same category only surf culture and surfers are incredibly lame compared to skate culture and skateboarders. I'm definitely a skateboarder who surfs and not the other way around.

Skateboarding got me into punk rock which in turn got me into playing music and playing in bands, which is pretty much my other main thing besides skateboarding. So skateboarding played a role in getting me into my other main interest/hobby, if it weren’t for skateboarding I probably wouldve never been into punk and playing music either. Hard to think what I would be into if it wasn’t for skateboarding..... I’ve been doing it for so long now, the last thing I was really into before skateboarding and music consumed my life was maybe hockey?? I was horrible at it though. So I’d probably just be a hockey hooligan or something.

Same here man, skating gave me everything, especially taste in music and art. It totally informed my entire existence as a kid. I made art and played music before skating but I dont think I'd have played in bands and toured and all that fun shit without it either. We had a pretty healthy hardcore scene in my hometown growing up, so at best I just would have one of those Origin and Terror gym shorts jocks. Thank you skateboarding. 💘💘💘

I'd like to think I'd be a more elite version of myself from not wasting all that time, like making a ton of money, physically ripped, or playing in an awesome band, but I think if we look at the people around us that don't skateboard many of them didn't accomplish anything extraordinary with the extra time that skateboarding has taken away from us.

It definitely gave me an alternative outlook on life and something to try to perfect, without that we'd just be another person in the rat race.

Punk and skating was peanut butter and jelly here when I got into skating (1986). I was in multiple hardcore/punk bands (that never got anywhere) from '87 (I was 11, it was a punk cover band basically) until 1999. I was personally heavily influenced by Cro-Mags, Suicidal Tendencies, Sheer Terror & old Agnostic Front at those times. This is part of my random hiatuses (including 1991, so I saw Video Days after the fact). Also 1994 I did more hardcore'ing than skating by far. Honestly lost interest in hardcore, once Hatebreed, Integrity, VOD became the cool thing. Still love the old shit though. My last bands were (attempting to be) somewhere in between the Misfits and Napalm Death if that makes any sense. I "retired" from music (I was the singer, AKA no musical talent here) after the last band. I was 23 and it started bumming me out that the bands never really came out how I wanted them to go, so I just decided to be just a fan of music again. I have a notepad of riffs (I can write riffs sort of, just can't play them well) and dumb lyrics for an imaginary project of mine that I will never have free time for. These are definitely in between GG Allin & Gwar. Basically all of the songs are about how dumb "scenes" are and everybody in them. I read them from time to time to laugh. As a former member of a "scene", it gives me the giggles.

i think that skateboarding lead me to my other hobbies even though they really have nothing to do with skateboarding.  so i'm not sure how that would work out for me

I probably would’ve stayed on the metal head trajectory I was on if I hadn’t been turned on to punk rock by other skaters. So music would’ve still been my subculture-ish foundation, but not as nearly as rad. Skating got me introduced to real hip hop too. Not just the RUN DMC, Beastie Boys, Fat Boys stuff I was into when I was like 10.

Also, without skateboarding influencing (dictating?) what I thought was cool I may have been one of those dudes who dresses up as a stormtrooper who ends up married to a fat Wiccan chick with pet lizards and shit.
