Currently riding a Uma Landsled 8.5 with 14.25 wb. Seem to be getting ghost pop more often. Was thinking of trying the GO96 shape. Would the shorter wb help with my ghost pop issue?

I'm right there with you. I run a shop in Chesapeake, VA (@skatesupply) and I recently made a couple sizes of our shop decks in specific dimensions.

8.12 W x 31 L x 13.75 WB

8.25 W x 31.5 L x 14 WB

I've also been loving that DLXSF has several shorter options with small wheelbases via their TRUE FIT molds.
damn thanks for dropping this knowledge on us. I’ve ordered from your shop a few times, big shoutout

Maybe not so much the wheelbase as it is more the most important bit between the back bolts, the amount of flat and then the angle of the kick.

In particular, the fingers of flat being shorter and a steeper kick will always give anyone ghost pop if you are not quite so used to that combination, on any truck, but especially on longer wheelbase trucks like Thunder and Venture, although I have had it just as much on my usual Indy trucks with a board that was just too steep and wasn't what I was used to.

Changing the board to something more mellow can definitely help, but not necessarily shorter wheelbase.  Compare your old board to the new one, if at all possible, or at the very least check the angle of the kicks on the new one to see if it is steeper than the previous boards you have had.

The other thing to check is if you get down lower, you can adapt to the different kicks more easily, but it is changing how you skated the old board, compared to how you skate this one - muscle memory or whatever people like to call it, as well as just taking longer to adapt to it.

For me though, having a board with a lot of ghost pop usually means I am going to be less than happy with that board, so I take it off and pass it on to someone else fairly quickly and get something that works better for me, but I can afford to do that more easily than some others.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

i’m fine brimmer to be accurate here.
one of the worst ghost pop boards i’ve had was a quasi, 14” wb, had almost like pendleton blanket print on it. indy’s. first ollie went straight to airwalk. felt like i’d never skated before.
i believe that board had some funky qc and there was no ‘fingers of flat’.

I’ve been skating 7.75-8 lately. Short wheelbases. 14 and sometimes under. Would an 8.1 feel that much different if the wheelbase is short?

I ask because I’m starting to see less smaller boards being made by brands I want to support. At least that I know of.

width doesn’t make as much of a difference to me, compared to: wb, overall length, tail length, nose length, angle of nose/tail, concave.

For me keeping the wheelbase the same between boards, and preferably the nose and tail length. It doesn’t take much to get used to. You could probably adapt to the 8.1 pretty easy unless you have huge feet

my 3 setups range from 7.75”-8.1”. and at first, it takes some getting used to when you look down at it. but this habitat 8.1” 14WB I’m about to retire, is one of the best boards I’ve ever skated. although I do prefer 8” over anything.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

I wear a mens 7-7.5US, so I usually have the opposite problem. 8.0 feels to me like an 8.25 feels to most other people. Thus far, 7.75 has been the sweet spot. I may fuck around and try an 8.1 just to see if I could handle it.

I am 7.5 us and i prefer to be on maximum 8" width, but i found that length, wb and steepness and length of kicks play bigger role. I find everything longer than 31.5 and with steeper kicks to decrease my trick ability. I had an antihero 8.12 in the past and the width was no problem coz it was 31.38 long with 14 wb. Real use to do that shape a lot, if you like the brand go for it or the new true fit mold shapes thay have 8.06 which is gonna be super good. My last deck is actually the best shape and dimensions i have had - a dgk (bbs) 7.9/31.35/13.94 medium concave and kicks.

I looked at their site and their 7.8 shape seems to have similar dimensions but with a 14 wb. Those two shapes might be perfect for me. What’s the concave and kick steepness like on them?

the 7.9 i had was with medium concave, pointy nose and tail at around 21 degrees so again medium, it even felt mellowish coz the tail has a good amount of length and fingers of flat so the pop was light enough for me. I rode it with thunders which was perfect. I havent tried the 7.8 but as i am looking at the specs the tail is a bit shorter and  you will have some steeper angle of pop. On photos it looks similar to the maganeta 7.875. It is gonna be good and i might try it some day.  DGK have a lot of china made decks which will probably be different but i haven't seen any, only the bbs i had. If i am not wrong i read somewhere on slap the the china dgk are mellow.

Does anyone know if the April 8.125" and the Primitive 8.125" are the same shape? I know the length and kick lengths are listed a bit different but it seems like they could be the same shape.

Refreshing this -

Can anyone recommend a 8.5 with 14'' wheelbase? Currently riding the Hockey Caleb shape which fully ticks all the boxes but afraid with the rumours of his departure, will be hard to get them soon.

Nope, plenty of 8.5" Choco twins out there (just not in the blue/orange you linked); Crail easily has the most twins out on the regular these days..still odd that they no longer appear in the shape guide tho...

I bought it a couple years ago but I have a DLX 8.5x31.5x14 that I like a lot. It’s not my primary board but it’s a fun shape.

running an 8.25 14wb chocolate with 44 ace classics. Feels pretty cozy, after a few seshes I’m skating nearly better than with my old 8.5 14.25wb setup.

except my kickflips are all out of wack still   :(.

venture 5.6 cast homie, with 53 mm F4 spit classics. I will say I also miss quasi being strictly PS stix due to being more flat. Buttt when they switched to BBS at least they made 14” wb. It’s not the perfect deck for me but it’s damn close. And I’ve just been running it too long to switch :)
