Try doing any trick over a chain link OR into a steep bank, let alone a combo. I once got a hole to the bone on the shin just ollieing a chain link. Dude did 13 tricks in an afternoon.

Exactly. Not to downplay what Hoban did at the SLS Hubba contest, but that was totally different.

It was behind some warehouse in a controlled environment, the "pavement" was some kind of bouncy wood with bricks painted on them (check Gifted Haters video about the contest,) there were multiple heats, and P Rod was handing out money right and left.

Hoban did 9 tricks each of an incredible technical level and most of them clean, but some of them a bit sketchy (like kf nosegrind 180 out landing in a short fakie manual)

Still incredible but a huge difference from Penny's absolutely perfect executions. On a technical level the tricks are hard to compare since the spots are so different still I think Penny's session is still the best ever filmed at a single spot in a single session.

Dobstaff with the cab heel and nollie back 3 heel. And how sick is a switch back 50 on a long double kinker like 20 years ago? Greatest half cab heel ever hucked?

I’d argue to say that Bastien was a modern day Chris Dobstaff to a degree. Super cocky and consistent, his own bag of tricks that he always threw out, way advanced for his time, dropped off the scene in a flash. Something to think about on a Sunday morning…

Pat Duffy had a bunch of tricks over the chain, albeit maybe not on the same day.

Ronnie Bertino nollie front heeled over the chain.

braeden hoban at the hubba hideout contest

I couldn't believe my eyes. Assuming they got the dimensions right, shit is the craziest session I've ever seen go down by one person, including Penny at the chain. The real thing was big enough that doing any trick at all on it was kind of a big deal. Kareem had a noseslide on it in the NWO video. Shipman's backlip had a cover. Drehobl's nosegrind had a 411 opener. Koston's back noseblunt is quite possibly the highlight of his career.

That was so fucking crazy! He did all those tricks in 30 minutes, taking turns with about 8 other skaters.

It obviously must have been more perfect than the real one, but I think it was the exact same size as the original hubba. Everyone, but Hoban, was really struggling to get anything on the ledge.

Nah...fake spot

Just my opinion I would say no. Yes tricks have gotten harder but Penny at that chainlink not only destroyed the spot but he did it with such effortless style.

The only comparable thing I can think of is Pat Duffy's opening 5 tricks down that 10 stair SF rail in Questionable. I think he also backlipped it but that would've been another day.

Sorry to derail but y’all remember this fun little ride Beta took us all on? Lol
I've talked about this with numerous people, but probably the one you'de be familiar with is will at cult of Tom

You'de be amazed not on the problems Tom had, moreso the issue the industry had with Tom..

He was the "Michael Jordan of skateboarding". But if you are aware, Tom was the victim of the industry. Tom checked out early, almost overnight. Rightfully so IMO. He was subject to alot of bullshit.

One day it will all come to light.

The basic point was although skatboard media promoted him like a motherfucker, they also were involved in demonizing him.

I was there the day he filmed his infamous "chain to bank".

Was it incredible? Absolutely. But he did way more tricks than video showed.

Flip, transwold and thrasher all put a halt on Pennys footy.

Why?  Not sure. But Tom talks about it personally.

Flips goal was to promote Geoff Rowley. Which is ok because he too took America by storm.

But one day you will hear Rowley talk about this.
