Hip Arthroscopy Recovery
« on: May 19, 2026, 10:51:31 AM »
Hey Pals, I unfortunately have to get a hip arthroscopy in a couple weeks to repair my torn labrum. Anyone have any experience with this? It seems like it will be at least 6, probably 9 months until I can skate again. Would love to hear anyone's experiences with getting back on the board after this operation.

Damn that sounds like a tough recovery.

I haven’t had hip surgery, but I have been off the board for 9 months due to foot troubles.

Any exercise that “won’t hurt it” but helps maintain balance/strength/ flexibility will help you later.

Stay in touch with the homies and the community. Maybe you can film? Do art/music? Plan the next phase of the DIY? It helps to feel like a part of things.

I picked up a christmas complete during the black friday sales, just to have something to look forward to.

Lately I’ve been taking my first tentative pushes. It feels reeeeally weeeeeeird. I keep telling myself, “you get to enjoy learning all these tricks again.”

I dunno man. I’m old and talk too much. Injuries suck. I wish you the best. With luck you’ll be back stronger next year.

My brother had his done. Took about 11 months from operation to really being balanced on his PT movements and in general. He rushed activity early on and shouldn't have. The problem is most PTs that deal with hips mostly work with the elderly, not young active people. He went to a Sports Medicine institute and paid out of pocket and the programming he got was way different.
