skateboarding injuries
« on: January 21, 2014, 11:13:09 PM »
i went skating the other day after three weeks of shit weather. I was about 2 hours into my sesh when both my knee caps starting aching. I hadn;t fallen bad or anything they just started hurting. Days later they are still aching. I was wondering would help knees not ach when I skate and any other good ways to help recover from injuries.

Stretch.
Stretch every muscle in your legs before your sesh, you should also try and stretch after too but alot of the time im too lazy. If I didn't stretch the shit out of my legs I wouldn't even be able to skate. I'm only 24, and  my knees and hip flexors  get really sore from skating, and taking a few minutes before I go out to skate and really stretching everything out helps me alot.

If you are blowing dudes in the alley as part of your warm-up it might be a good idea to nix that for awhile.

This, stretching is great. It may be boring at times, but it really helps out.

i don't think you'd have to cut that out entirely. wear your kneepads and you can prolly retain blowjob warm ups.

i broke my two front teeth when i was a preteen trying to manual off a sidewalk and got caught on a pebble. no hospital trips for me yet luckily. i do  often get shinners and other small things where the pain is too sharp to roll over while lying down on my bed though. this has pretty much happened at least once a week for the last two years. a bruise on my arm or shin usually.

It sounds to me as if your kneecaps are dislocating. What kind of pain do you feel exactly? If it's a dull, annoying ache, then it might be the same case as me. The three things you should do is to stretch well, especially your quads, strengthen your legs, and lastly, suck it up, it's not getting any worse. Might be the cold weather too.

I'm the only one out of all the peopel I skate with that always stretches, but at this point in time I seriously need it. If I don't stretch I'm sore for days. I even stretch in the morning when I wake up (partially because I walk to work, but it also helps wake me up). I'm pretty careful about my body though since I have other underlying health issues.

I seem to be the king of injuries lately. My upper back/neck has been on and off fucked since mid December from poor gym techniques and shitty pillows on my bed, then just when I was starting to finally sort that out I twisted my ankle and knee when I was about 5 tricks into a session last Thursday.
If you can afford it, I would highly recommend seeing a physio. They should be able to properly identify whats causing your pain and give you specific stretches and exercises to help.

what do you guys think about chiropractors? Ive been going to one for the last couple of months (expensive as fuck) and my back shoulders and neck feel a lot better, I've also noticed my posture has gotten better. But now when I go in it seems he does half of the treatment on me, almost like he rushes through it and doesn't do all the stuff he used to do. Has anyone had chiro experience before, am I supposed to stop going now that the pains gone

I know you're being sarcastic, but you sound just like my husband. 12 hour shifts of production work and decade of skating have left my left knee feeling weak. Chiropractor said it's chondromalacia patellae combined with a previously broken knee cap which never mended right. She advised I find other activities.  ::)

There's no pain, just discomfort if I sit in a chair for too long or with my knee bent it always pops when I straighten it out. There are little "pieces" that I push back to the side and up on the outside of both of my knees. They kinda feel like little balls and are extremely uncomfortable when they come out but they come out mostly when I squat. Taking glucosamine helps them feel better and I usually have a bottle of Aleve handy for whenever I go skate.

100% not being sarcastic, this is me. I've lost 90% of my tricks, but i still get out randomly have a sesh, but mostly just work and cruise the fourm in my downtime at the office.
