Sebo Walker killed Krooked for me
How so?
Sorry I'm so late to respond.
Tough to explain...I guess to preface my opinion, I started skating right after Krooked Kronichles came out. Gnar Gnar and then Naughty became super influential for me, along with krooked kronichles a short while laterwhich I watched via the internet back when it was lucky to see anything in 360p. All those videos had a really strong team feel to me. Gnar Gnar and Naughty especially, which was mostly just flow dudes on an east coast trip, both gave this awesome feel where all the dudes seemed genuinely stoked on each other, where they were at, and the fun they were having, while the skating felt accessible, albeit still great, to an average joe like myself. Gonz-!, Mike Anderson-Quick, Van & His Friend Cam-Rad, Cromer- Finesseful, Andrew Pearl-Sage Savant, Bobby Worrest-Booyah, etc, etc.
So I guess aside from greg lutzka I feel like sebo was the first guy to get on krooked that I didn't think fit with the rest of the team. First off, you watch the videos from the last few years and there's barely any semblance of friendship; I haven't seen one clip where sebo walker looks like he's there skating with anyone else on krooked, let alone enjoying time with the team. You watch the going pro clip and it barely seems like half the dude's know him at all (his interaction with bobby worrest is pretty awkward looking). Less importantly, even his skating doesn't fit krooked too well in my opinion. To me his style lacks any element of danger or fluidity; sure he rides really loose trucks and flicks his board real nice but he looks kinda like an ill-kept mannequin when he does it. His personality is dull and it seems like he tries to make up for it by doing shitty griptape art with over branded absurdity thrown in (we get it dude "you ride fer krooked"). The dude seems more 'joey brezinski out there' than 'mark gonzales out there' to me.
Since a little before they put sebo on, krooked has gone downhill for me. Not saying he's the reason krooked started going downhill, but he was a nail in the coffin for me. Their graphics have been using more basic (primary) color palettes with less poignant images, the video clips they've been coming out with (krooked in nyc, the korea edit) haven't had too awesome of a feel in my opinion; less unique anyway, kinda more 'plain tour edit vibes'. I dunno, I guess everything changes, I just have trouble with it cause krooked's always been pretty special to me
hope I change my mind eventually
note: I have nothing against sebo walker, I'm sure he's a great guy and is a fun dude to skate with, these are just my opinions of the whole situation from the safety of the internet...
edit: realized I spent 45 minutes thinking about that... fuck
