Getting out of a contract.
« on: February 19, 2016, 04:44:23 PM »
I currently have Comcast for my home security and I'm almost a year in to a 2 year contract.  The problem is that next weekend we're moving from a townhouse in to an apartment, and I'm not going to need the alarm anymore AND the complex doesn't allow for security systems.  Already called Comcast and they wouldn't budge on the $450 early termination fee.  It wouldn't be an issue and we'd still need the alarm if we weren't being forced to move, as my landlord is selling the place. They told me the only way they'd terminate it without the fee is death or military deployment. Any ideas short of faking my death?

I called 4 times, spoke to 4 different people until I got someone who gave a shit. All I had to do was tell them I'd pay the fee and they can cancel my other services. Pretty anti climactic...

i no longer have problems like that because i avoid service contracts as much as possible. but when it can't be avoided, and there's something i don't like, i give them hell and i do it relentlessly. it can definitely be a bit much to deal with, but i'm stubborn so i don't back down easily. at the very least they'll hook me up with something for free, so it's worth a shot.
