Off the rip 1010 being a Nazi isn't anything new FUCK THAT GUY!!!, Grosso repping Skrewdriver I'd like to think he was taking the piss like anyone else, but that goes without saying... I'm not one to say I liked shit bands or advocate for them, I'd hope that he was mocking them much like Pink Panzer Harry Beltone did.
Skrewdriver’s first few years were just uk punk - they weren't driven by white power, nazi ideology. It wasn’t until they reunited in the 80’s that they started making racist music. At least that’s my understanding. I’m conflicted because I think that first album is good. But I don’t dare listen to because of the association. Best just to forget they exist.
while this is true, only nazis wear skrewdriver shirts. they are one of the most famously racist bands in history and probably the most famous neo-nazi bands ever (i guess only now being superceded by kanye?) skrewdriver is *the* bonehead band. they created rock against communism and really helped to popularize all that nazi punk shit.
like, you can rock a 45-degree swazi and say its originally a buddhist symbol and technically be correct, but you will be rightly clocked as a nazi. if you roll up to a punk show wearing a skrewdriver shirt you would (rightly) be jumped.
it's hard to imagine that grosso didn't know, especially given his age, but he really should have known better if he somehow didn't understand that he might as well been wearing SS bolts. there's a reason vans blurred it out.
