I grew up in a time when people would got beat up for waxing the coping. It was a mortal sin. I have recently seen pros in street league putting wax on the coping. I went to a birdhouse demo a few months ago where Shawn Hayle put wax on an already pretty slippery coping. So is it accepted now?

depends on the coping / situation

Never wax poolcoping, only wax steel coping when its scratchep up / rusty. And if you're waxing the coping, put the wax on a towel and slide the towel on the coping, so its evenly waxed and no wax sprinkles touch the surface of the ramp.

Waxing rails, ledges, etc. isn't so bad because you expect that stuff to slide and feel it out.

Waxing coping on transition is probably going to cause somebody skating normally to eat shit.

If it is just you and your friends at your everyday park and you are all on the same page that's fine, but to show up at a spot and do it, hell no-people could get wrecked. Go skate the flat bar with the little kids if you don't like it.

Nope. Fuck off with that shit. It inevitably melts and gets dragged into the transition and shit gets slick and shitty. Clear lacquer is the only legit way to make coping slick.

If im going top speed and cant grind a 50 on a quarter pipe that tells me something. ill lay the wax on coping and give one swipe with almost no pressure at all. That little bit usually does the trick and its not over or under waxed.
